12/07 LANDO AMPS 124; +2 78 ( syringe feeding)

I hope he starts feeling better soon. Did you get ondansetron? Has he ever had an ultrasound?
The vet said he is calling me back tonight at 6. I will know more then. He hasnt had an ultrasound, but honestly Elise, after i brought him into the vet for a nail trim, i may be EXTREMELY picky about bringing him in again. He screamed, puffed up and stopped eating after that visit last thursday. The most i can do without a vet visit for the few years he realistically has left ( as a 17.5 yr old cat) is where my head is at. I will let you and everyone know if the vet will rx ondesterone ( i will heavily push for it).

Sorry he's ill again :(

My vet will do house calls (or send techs) if he has enough advance notice and it's "extenuating" circumstances with the pet (i.e. no amount of meds or anything will help the anxiety/panic/"omg I'm gonna die"). It might be worth asking.

Thanks for the tip! Yes i know that vet techs did assistant calls for sub q fluids etc.. before the pandemic, i should ask again. Thanks for the nudge and compassion for Lando

Btw that shot of mr kitty has always cracked me up! Haha i dont know why. He is so intent! I guess he and lando both have the holy trinity of ailments ( diabetes, pancreatitis and ckd)

He has very expressive eyes...it ranges from "please love me" to "open that can right NOW" to "touch me and I'll take your fingers off" :joyful: He's a walking pharmacy, that's for sure.

I know sometimes we get caught up in "this is life now" but you're doing a great job. I know the syringing and meds and everything just kind of becomes what you have to do/part of the day, but that doesn't make it any less frustrating, difficult, or stressful.

Thank you for that. I needed that bit of lift this week

I’m sorry Lando is not feeling well. Is he fighting the syringe feeding? I hope not. :bighug:
Tbank you elise! Im not sure if its good or bad, but he is not fighting the syringe. He serms a bit low. My biggest goal right now is to not try to push him, but be extra gentle. The one good news is that the nutri bullet blended food is more to his liking ( eating on his own) the bad news is my vet wants me to try miritaz for two days before ondestaron. I really dont want to get tough with him since its a 18 yr relationship and a 5 minute drive :( - also despite this very odd point of contention, he has been excellen

So he wants to stimulate appetite of a possibly nauseous cat befits giving ondansetron. :banghead: A couple days won’t cause a food aversion but if he were my cat I would tell the vet he’s still not wanting to eat and get the ondansetron. Why is he so against it? I was shocked at how expensive mirtaz is. I almost got it for Chai when she was sick recently but decided to see if her appetite would pick up first and fortunately she recovered from whatever she had.

His exact words were that the ondesteron is used for the same thing as cerenia. I dont know... like i said tho, on the east side i dont have close vets nearby that squeeze me in last minute like this vet does. Our relationship is 90% positive, so i dont feel comfortable risking that relationship with force. Sadly i think lando has already formed many food aversions on his own. Young again kibble has been shot down

I hear you.
good vets are so hard to find. I dread the day mine retires. I have yet to ind one I would feel comfortable using. Just wait two days and then perhaps you will get it. It is so strange. Cerenia and ondansetron work in different ways. Many cats need both at the same time. Does he sell ondansetron? Perhaps it's a money thing.

I buy cerenia from chewy.com! Haha. I kind of think i just hit an ego nerve on this one. He is usually so reasonable, but i KNOW some of his clients are excentric and challenging, so perhaps this is just a " youre not the boss of me moment". Ill let you know how lando does!

I hate to be cynical… but yeah i just looked at the price of the miritaz. Its a lot! So maybe you are right :( . Regardless it seems to be working well so far

It was 80 at my vet but I only pay 10% because of insurance. Cyproheptadine has worked for mine cats in the past and and was cheap but has to be pilled.
