Thanks, Robin, SO good to hear that. I am not going to be home and I shot .7
I am going to try to get a vet appointment for her early next week. I am convinced she has kidney disease. It is painful to watch her struggle with water. She is eating all the time---I put lots of water in the food. For some reason, she seems to be able to take that in more easily than drinking. She justs stands over her water bowl, staring. Last night she lay down next to her bowl!!! I am thinking she is dreadfully thirsty. I don't know if that is actually true, but it is certainly hard to watch. I am beginning to check about foods with low phosphorus--and I have looked at some kidney sites and they recommend phosphorus bindser (as did Gator with a link he gave me) but these meds are in PILL or powder form---I don't know how I can get her to take anything.
We are giving her subQ fluids today--I was planning on tonight, but I think I will try and do it before I go out, Maybe that will make her more comfortable.

I don't want to add to your worries but when you're at the vet have them check her thyroid too. Diabetes and Hyper T have very similar symptoms, excessive thirst, eating all the time, weight loss, etc.

Both of my boys Harley and Chase had the exact same symptoms at the same time, Harley was dx with diabetes and Chase was dx with Hyper T. Go figure.

With Chase at first I thought it was his kidneys too.

Have a great day.

Oh, Judy, you have a lot on your plate today. I hope things turn out well with the grandkids and Squamee. I'm anxiously waiting for your update. I hope she is feeling better!

Hi Robin,THings seem to have settled down. Thanks for asking. I have my twin grandchildren here, with my husband to help (9 months and crawling is hard to keep up with.) I was going to help out at their house, but we decided to bring them here so we could be with Squamee.
She is walking ok, tho somewhat slowly. After the first fluid vomit just after the subQ, we left for an hour to get the kids. Came home and she seemed ok, and then we found a big vomit with food and hairball. Now she keeps asking for food, and eating just a little, (I have opened about 5 different cans to see if she wants any!).
I spoke with the covering vet who only seemed to be concerned about whether she could be crashing from the insulin. I checked her and she was 252 (it was +3). So I am going to wait and see what happens. THe vet is open for emergencies tomorrow, and I have a regular appointment Monday afternoon.
Never a dull moment. Hope you enjoy the weekend!

Lucky you twin grandkids, how fun. Glad you were able to bring them there to stay with Squamee.

Maybe the hairball was the problem, I hope she starts eating, have you tried the juice you made?

Not to make your day harder but I'm not going to be home tonight when you have to shoot. I've put together some guidelines together for you if you want and you can factor in her other issues like eating.

Gator might be around too or you can always call me.

No you didn't miss anything, I knew I wouldn't be home tonight so I went back over the last week of Squamee's ss and wrote down what I thought would be in line with how you are dosing now.

You can call anytime, you wont be interupting anything important.

IMHO Guidelines :
250 & under - .6u
250 to 300 - .7u or .8u
300 to 350 - .8u to .9u
over 350 - .9 to 1 unit

Then you factor in how much she's eating, how is she feeling, has she taken her meds, etc. just like we have been doing.

Just shot .7. Gator and Robin, thanks for your offers to let me call. It is most comforting to feel I have such reliable back=up. But the grandkids left just a little while ago, and while they were great fun, put that together with my concern about Squamee, and I am totally drained. So I am going to bed quite soon.
Have a meeting to go to tomorrow morning, leaving around 9:15 EST. Gator, I know you are not up then. Robin, if you are, look for me! If not, I'll wing it. DH will be home with Squamee. Hope tomorrow is a quiet day!

Even with all that you had going on today she had a beautiful sunny yellow day yeah Squamee.

You both deserve a good nights sleep.
