... and hello Niagra! :thumbup

In spite of moving house and being locked out by my friend on her first night at the new place, Saoirse has gone fourteen days in euglycaemic numbers without insulin. And my darling girl loves, loves, loves her new home! cat_pet_icon

Her person ain't doing quite as good. :YMSIGH:

Sammy and Lizzy were all excited last night, and now I know it was NOT because we are home from vacation. They must have known about all the kitties going OTJ here! so happy today to ready this.

Just as well you reminded me to put the OTJ icon up - Saoirse has definitely earned it. She has been such a good little patient and I love her beyond my powers to verbalise. cat_pet_icon

I'm so happy for her that her little pancreas is working again, and doubly so because of the pancreatitis (although I'm still of the opinion that IBD induced by the sh*te ingredients in her prescription dry diets is at the root of all her problems   ). Saoirse is such a quiet and gentle little soul, and I'm so grateful that I wasn't too late to help her, and that I was thankfully in a good enough financial position to provide her with all she needed (gotta love pet insurance). I'm also very grateful to the universe for moving in such a way as to finally allow me to provide her with a better home, too. I wish you could all witness first-hand the transformation in her! She deserves so much more than I've been able to give her for the last number of years and it was eating me alive. :YMSIGH:

It is vital to acknowledge that we didn't get to this point by ourselves. I am so thankful for the fantastic support that both of us received from our current vets (even if it took them a while to get their heads round how often I tested, or that I kept her on insulin as long as I did). It makes such a positive difference when vets and caregivers work in partnership to get the best results for our furry children. I am also completely indebted to everyone who has made FDMB the wonderful community and education centre that it is. Without FDMB I would never have known that there were better insulins than Caninsulin, and that a low carbohydrate, species-appropriate, wet diet would be so beneficial to Saoirse - and not just for her diabetes. Without the people here, I might still be following the Hills w/d Dry Keep-Kitty-Diabetic protocol that was first inflicted on Saoirse and thus condemning her to a life of injections without even the chance of remission.

I can't put into words how much it has meant to us not to be alone on this white knuckle ride. We would have been completely lost without all of your warmth and wisdom. I would like to mention a few names:

- Sue (& Oliver), Phoebe (... _Tiggy_Norton), BJ(M), and Deb (& Wink) for coming to our aid in the early days when the recommended Caninsulin doses were too high, Saoirse's blood glucose was very low, and I was struggling to stay awake.

- Eliz (... abeth & Bertie) for the invaluable advice about how to go about getting a Lantus prescription under UK drug cascade rules, and for suggesting I contact the Royal Veterinary College.

- Long overdue but deeply heartfelt thanks to Elise (tiffmaxee), Hellen (Shadowsmom), BJ, Diane (BaileyUK) and Larry (and Kitties) for all of your support and your advice on feeding and medication when Saoirse was dreadfully ill during her pancreatitis flare-up. I found the pancreatitis flare-up the most frightening and toughest thing to deal with, and the memory of it still haunts me. (I was praying to everything and anything that I would not lose her.)

Cassandra (SweetAngel) for helping me to find a food that really agrees with Saoirse that she likes to eat (pivotal after the pancreatitis issues), and also for recommending I speak with Ruth at the RVC.

And last but by no means least, Mel (MommaOfMuse), who does so much for so many people here - especially for those of us using L insulins who, for diverse reasons, are unable to follow the full Tight Regulation protocol. Mel, you have my profound gratitude for your mentoring and valildation of my treatment choices, for watching over us, for teaching me to how to feed Saoirse's curves, and also for lending me some of your strength to help me keep my baby safe at low numbers when my own body was giving out on me - especially on the night when her pancreas really came back to life. I will never forget it to you.

This has taken me a long time to write - the happy, relieved tears keep getting in the way. Thank you, thank you, thank you.

Lovely message Aine...am so glad Saoirse is OTJ!!

Hope you'll still pop in here though ...you got lots of good stuff and experience you can share with us newbies.

Juliet and Silver (who is trying hard to follow Saoirse to the Falls)

((((((((Aine))))))))))

Hon,

I really hope that now Saoirse has taken up a condo at the Falls you will still hang around here. Not only do you have a wealth of knowledge to pass along to the next generations, but that you would be sorely missed in our little family. And by all the Gods I could use your knowledge of not only European food sources, but your expertise with translating the AlphaTrac numbers into something I can understand at a glance.

At the very least you NEED to pop in tomorrow as I wasn't able to get a proper OTJ party condo up for her today and invite all the other kitties to join the party. (Autumn will hurt me if I don't let her celebrate her friend's success. )

In my addled state I made a blunder on my 'thank you' post. I meant to add all in the Relaxed Lantus group who gave Saoirse and me such a warm welcome when we joined, and who also gave us a little corner of FDMB to call home. My (major) bad.   As I have posted before, I didn't feel lonely with all of this any more after ye took us in.

Absotively, Mel! I've been slow on posting since the move because I'm utterly exhausted and freaked out by the changes that go with moving, but I ain't goin' nowhere. I have a debt I can't ever repay - you all helped me to keep my precious girl safe when I needed to regularly inject her with a potentially lethal hormone in order to give her the best chance of remission. I very much want to use what little experience I have to pay forward whatever I can - even if it's only food recommendations for the UK. Also, just because Saoirse is OTJ it doesn't mean my work here is done. I want to keep her as healthy as possible going forward and here is the best place to learn how. And it's not only the medical side of things. You guys are my sugar family, and I'd be lost without ye. You didn't just help Saoirse ... :YMHUG:

Dear Aine, This is wonderful news that your darling Saoirse has finally come off the juice, all your hard work and dedication has paid off----well done!
I really hope with your improved living arrangements, and your babies improving health, you will both continue to flourish.
Keep intouch. Diane & Bailey XX

Thank you, Diane and Robin. I'm very relieved that I was able to help Saoirse get to this day. I was worried that with the SID dosing she might not have made it.

how are you doing with the move Áine?

Not great, Nadine. There are bags and boxes everywhere and I'm too exhausted to sort them out (which winds me up even more  ). Plus I can't find lots of day-to-day stuff. Changes are really hard with the OCD. :YMSIGH: Thank you for the hugs. Badly needed. :YMHUG:

Áine
just take your time. i know disorganization must be so hard with ocd. try and take it 1 box at a time . have you ever tried any type of yoga or relaxation type of exercises.
i so wish we were close enough to help you. :YMHUG: :YMHUG: :YMHUG: :YMHUG: :YMHUG: :YMHUG: :YMHUG: :YMHUG: :YMHUG: :YMHUG: :YMHUG:
take as many hugs as you need.

I was expecting the move to take a lot out of me, but not this much. I wasn't expecting to be in so much physical pain either. It's hard to deal with psychologically and emotionally, too. I used to be so capable.

Thank you both so much for your support, ladies. It means so much ... :YMHUG:

My sister has rheumatoid arthritis, so I understand chronic pain & fatigue. I do most of the household stuff she used to. You do what you can. If it takes longer so be it. I know it's frustrating, but you are doing the best that you can.

I'm sorry to hear about your sister, Laura. My mother had osteo-arthritis and had a fair amount of intermittent severe pain with that. I believe that rheumatoid arthritis is much, much worse. She is blessed to have you there for her. :YMHUG: :YMHUG: (for both of you).
