This is the 6th cycle

Yesterday
Nothing like a little jog around the coffee table to get the heart beating in the morning...that's what I always say! I am glad that I didn't trip over the over-turned chair in the middle of the living room. I had to over turn the chair to get at Raja for her test. Her little tiny ears are so cold on chilly days. After breffis, she saw me coming and we did the dance around the coffee table. There is no doubt that SHE allowed me to catch her finally.

She managed some greens last night, but I am thinking that she should get a little fat on her dose tonight just the same.
I fed my neighbor's cat and started a load of laundry so we are off and running on this brisk Monday morning.
Hope you all have a wonderful day! :YMHUG:

I didn't see that you guys started back up on levemir .. I hope she gives you some more of those green numbers you were wanting to see ... have a great day guys!

Re: 11/8 Raja AMPS=180

Morning Pat,

At least that jaunt around the table will keep you warm. :-D Glad Raja showed you some green. Hope it continues.

Have a great day.

Excersizing so early this am?? Whatta a gal! Hope Raja comes down today!
Raja dont put your bean through so much to make you feel good!--Cold?? Yes I know anything under 70 is cold for you!
It's like 45 degrees today--Talk about brisk! Hugs & hope Raj comes down!

Re: 11/8 Raja AMPS=180

Hehe, Raja is my first giggle for the day. Sorry Pat, but she tickles me. Just seeing the two of you, running around the coffee table, is funny. She really is adorable. Yes???

Re: 11/8 Raja AMPS=180

 Pat...exercise is good, it lowers BG! Now, if you could just get her to run around the coffe table without you chasing her... Nice to see some green...more please, Raja!

Is it common for siblings to both have diabetes? Jezebel's littermate, Sassy, hasn't shown any signs. She is, of course, on the low carb diet by default.

Re: 11/8 Raja AMPS=180

Hi Debie...there is talk that certain breeds of cats that may be genetically prone to FD...but as far as it being hereditary for all cats, I do not think that anything definitive has been proven. Age and environmental factors come in to play as well as diet. So, it is good if you have changed to LC foods for all of them! IMHO.
I had been feeding my two Hills Dry for 12 years...my first vet said that Shadow need the dry to keep his teeth clean. While he preferred the canned, I did have the dry out all day and only split one can both AM/PM between the two of them.. Raja loved the dry. She is overweight and while her numbers have always been lower than Shadow's, she is still in the FD BG range now after returning from the Falls. He had symptoms but she never did except for the elevated BGs.

I my mind, I think that any hereditary predispositions added to environmental factors could possibly lead to both siblings having FD. That thought lead me to bring Shadow in after Raja was dx....if SHE had it with no symptoms, I realized that HE definitely had it. (there was a vet that zeroed in on Raja and her weight when I first moved down here. He told me that Shadow was the perfect weight and never tested him!!!! He had lost weight and his fur was dull and had dandruff....)
Her blood work showed elevated BGs and I found another vet!! I believe that FD is rampant now due to the dry food so whether it is hereditary or not, the food that one feeds to both of them impacts them as they age. If Raja had continued w/o insulin, her numbers very well might have been as bad off as Shadow's in time. If there is a human link, then it is not so far fetched to think that heredity plays a role though...the susceptibility of getting Type II that is....

Re: 11/8 Raja AMPS=180~+2=99

+2=99
She heard the bustle in the kitchen and came around to investigate. I think she knew that some goodies were being served. Raja is definitely an opportunist! She began sniffing Shadow's MC mix and licking her chops. I got the paraphernalia out and went to test her...and folks, I could have sworn I heard a GROWL! :o It was low and quick, but hmmmm....I could have sworn it sounded like a growl. grr_red Oh Raja!! You are really giving your Mama a hard time!
I tested her and got the green and she got an LC snack. I think she knew that Shadow was getting the deluxe snack...but oh well! Get a <50 and you will have some goodies too Raja dear!!

Re: 11/8 Raja AMPS=180~+2=99~+4=80

just 2 thoughts here...

1. get a smaller coffee table.

2. NEVER try to jump over the coffee table, no matter how small..

thank you for the mental picture of the chase...i love the laughs in your condos.

Nice green day today, Raja! (hmm green day, that would make a really great name for a band...)

Re: 11/8 Raja AMPS=180~+2=99~+4=80

 Of course she knew! There's no fooling those noses! Raja probably thinks she's helping you get healthier too by giving you all that extra exercise. Glad to see her back in green. :-D

Re: 11/8 Raja AMPS=180~+2=99~+4=80

Great condo today as usual!!! Glad to see this very nice +4 for Raja. I have even more suggestions:

1. glue the chairs down
2. put a heavy collar on Raja so she slows down

Pat...I agree with you wholeheartedly on the dry food. My BFF has a 10 year old male who is overweight, gets no exercise, and eats only dry food. I've been telling her he is an FD cat waiting to happen. When I volunteered at the cat shelter, I saw so many diabetic kitties because we did home checks before we would place a cat and I would always tell the potential adopters about getting the cats on canned food...I cannot believe vets who were prescribing insulin but not saying a darn thing about the cat eating dry food!!! This is what has frustrated me about Grace...she's never had any dry food or any canned food that had greater than 10% of calories from carbs (obviously now she's even lower). So the steroids did it BUT I was just reading an article over the weekend that said they are finding that chronic inflammation can cause diabetes and she has had chronic FLUTD until just recently...so I wonder if that weakened her pancreas and the steroids put her over the edge.

Thinking of giving her a little fat tomorrow if she doesn't get green tonight....
I was surprised that she jumped up on the chair for the test. She ate and then looked up. The syringe! :o
She hightailed it to safety! Or so she thought! We have a round coffee table...it has 4 carved lion heads around the base....she knows exactly how to run and hide under there where she definitely has the advantage!
DH helped tonight and I was able to catch her. We usually go around a few times....not tonight though!
She is such a sad sack when it comes to this stuff....

Let's find that green you found earlier so your mama bean doesn't have to fatten the dose ;-) Come on Raja you can get attention in other ways too

Ahhhh....So you do exercise in the mornings Pat. Chasing Raja around the coffee table......Glad your DH was there this PM to help catch little Miss Raja.

I am glad to see the green for Raja. When you were first treating Raja last year did she ever get used to your routine of testing/shooting? I can understand her reluctance now since you just recently started her back. But did she always run away and try to hide? Silly girl.

I'm smiling at how Raja knew the 'good' stuff was being served to Shadow and she wanted in on the action. Have you ever tried to open a can of food silently? I just cannot do it! I try to do it slowly with a tea towel over my hands, but somehow one or another of the kitties comes running. They have extra-sensory hearing.
