Good morning LL! Well Hoots AMPS was much better today, but I think it might have been because he didn't eat since +10 lastnight. I kind of forgot to put food down for them lastnight :roll: This wet food thing is all new to me too :o It would be nice if his BG would come down some today :smile: We'll see :mrgreen: Have a Purrrfect day everyone!

So I just found the "Contraband" that I hope is the reason Hoots #'s are so high. He's been running across the street and finishing the neighbors cats dry food. Aren't they sneaky!! So now I will go talk to the neighbor about it. Why do people have animals, but don't really want to have animals????? Don't even let them in the house???? I understand feral cats that you can't get close to, but this guys cat is a lover. And the lady next door feeds all the cats to but Hoot doesn't go over there....to many cats! And she picks it up when their done for Hoot. I just think about putting Hoot back OTJ and never knowing why!!!!!! I guess thats the risk you can take with outside cats. You can't watch them all the time and never know what their into.

Back to a good starting number... yay!

You aren't likely to get your neighbor to pick up the dry food. You'll have more control to keep Hoot inside. He's always going to go run
for it... he knows where it is. That does seem to be the trick for having a diet controlled diabetic.... controlling all the variables in their
lives.
I hope today gets him back on track .

Good morning Pam and Congrats to HOOT for day 4 of OTJ. I agree with Rhiannon. Your neighbor is either putting the dry food out because they really don't want to be bothered with the cats any more than they have to or they might think they are doing the right thing. If it's because they don't want to be bothered you're fighting a losing battle. If it's the latter you might have a very slim chance of at least getting them to switch to can food it you explain that it's better for their cat. I applaud you for taking the initiative to try to do something anyway. Good luck and again Congrats to you and Hoot for day 4 OTJ!

What a relief to find an explanation. I agree w/ indoors, but maybe you can make some supervised outdoor time a treat!

Thats funny! I was starting to get worried about the BG numbers. I once heard this story about this woman whose cat was getting fat even though she was feeding it. She put a note on its collar say "if you feed this cat please call.." and she got 10 calls!!

OMG, that is so funny! :lol: :lol: Don't you wish you could put a camera on your outside kitties for a day :lol: Luckily I live on the end of a street with few neighbors and my kitties are very spoiled and don't wander far, about 2 houses. I let them out about 9:00am and they are in at night by 5:00pm. They come and go all day, but mostly they are in sleeping. I tell them you can't be out at night...the bad cats are out at night :lol: And the neighbor I have to talk to is very nice and I'm sure he will help me out. So I figure Hoots BG will tell me if he has found some more contraband anywhere. It really would be a shame if he couldn't go out anymore.

Maybe you'll get a cooperative neighbor who will quit putting out dry food but as you know, it's pretty hard to not use it anymore since
it's become the norm. I haven't had any luck yet getting anyone in my town to give up dry food for their cats.

You may find yourself with the choice of and indoor only diet controlled diabetic cat verses an insulin dependent diabetic cat.

oh my gosh.. it's great you found out What and Where Hoot is getting his contraband. At least ;you know what's up. I hope you find a solution that's good for you all.

Thanks everyone! I was getting quite discouraged also :sad: But his BG is so much better now, so paws crossed he will stay in the green! :mrgreen: As for the neighbor...I have no doubt we can come to a happy medium with him :smile:
