Good morning!
AMPS 106 shooting 2.25u

Boomer ate most of his overnight fuds leaving a wee bit in each dish like usual. He let me sleep until 5:00 then called me to stir his +9 food which was about 1/2 tsp and which he didn't bother to eat after I stirred it.

Allen didn't eat as well last night but he did eat a full breakfast this morning.
Yesterday we took Allen to see Dr Larry because his hind legs appeared to be weak. I told Dr Larry that it seemed to be more on the left side than the right side. Larry tested his reflexes (has anyone seen a vetty do this before? I hadn't) and right side reacted normally, no response on the left leg. I asked if the pred was likely causing this and he indicated that yes it was the likely culprit and he would do some research into alternatives. He later sent me a message that he had ordered diazoxide as a replacement and to start weaning Allen off the pred by giving him a dose just every other day.
Blood work is being done as well as a urine culture. We should have the b/w results later today. Ionized calcium being done but it will take about a week to have a result.
Other info from vetty visit.....temperature normal.
Weight is actually up a tiny tiny bit.
BG was 36 which is actually up from the last time I took it.

On the agenda for this Bean: lunch with a friend. I have a newborn scheduled in for tomorrow so I'll have to set up the studio and get all the props ready. We had another heavy frost last night and once again I can't get out to photograph it. sigh

Nice start for Boomer. I hope weaning Allen off the pred takes care of his weakness. Good news he has gained a little weight and his BG was higher. Sending prayers.

From what I read it looks like diazoxide is meant to treat insulinoma and low blood sugar. Good news Allen gain a little and didn't lose anymore weight. Hopefully the new meds help and his legs return to normal with stopping pred.

What are you up to day Boomer...hunting for drop 2? Go easy so mama bean can enjoy a much needed lunch. Something tells me you'll have plenty of time to get that photo of the frost;)

Hi Judy, I'm pleased to see that Boomer is poised to have a good cycle today (and that he isn't about to change his nighttime fuds "routine").
I hope Allen will benefit from the change in meds.
Enjoy your lunch out. We had a frost last night, too. We've cancelled the paddle we had scheduled for tomorrow because of the cold weather and windy conditions.

I just looked up diazoide as well and couldn’t find any use for cats, just dogs and ferrets and for tumors and low BG. I hope it helps Allen but wonder why this drug. Of course I’m not a vet. Just curious.

Many times they prescribe "off label" meds and insulinoma is super rare in cats. My guess is because of this there isn't much published research....but it's a guess.

That's why I'm confused. Allen is on pred? Yet has low bs of 36?
He has hyperglycaemia likely due to an insulinoma on his pancreas. We started the pred in order to try to raise his BG. But unfortunately the pred (well, we're assuming it's the pred) has caused weakness in his back legs. So we're wearing him off the pred and he'll be getting something else instead.

Ok. Pred often makes them drink and pee more which can cause low potassium. It’s easy to supplement if that’s the cause of this and pred is helping. :bighug:
