11/7 Tawny ER Update

Thank you everyone for yesterday & please keep the healing vines & good wishes coming. I am devastated over this.

tawny went to ER last night. DKA.

This morning's update is that Tawny's electrolyes showed some improvement overnight & that she showed some "mild improvement" overall.

Her condition is considered "guarded".

She will be seeing an internal medicine specialist in a little bit this a.m., I will post anytime I have news.

I'm so sorry Tawny and you are going through this. FWIW, Gabby was in a similar condition at diagnosis. That she saw some improvement in her electrolytes overnight is a good sign. The vets need to titrate these values slowly. You both are in my thoughts.
 
Oh Desi, I'm so sorry that Tawny is so sick. The improvement this morning is encouraging. I hope there is a lot more improving coming very soon.

Desi, We are thinking really good thoughts for Tawny and praying for her speedy recovery. Be positive and be strong. We are all with you today.

(((Desi & Tawny))) I'm so sorry that you both are going through this! Tawny has always had a special place in my heart, I'm sending tons of vines and positive thoughts for her speedy recovery. Please keep us updated.

Tawny is still guarded...

Here is the latest:

electrolytes have improved;

BG down from 340 at admittance last night to ER to 211 this morning;

Still dehydrated and getting fluids;

weight is down;

only .1 out of normal range for potassium;

They asked to do a central line to give IV with and also draw blood from so that they don't have to stick her so often for blood;

They are doing an ultrasound on her belly, they want to look at her liver, pancreas & gall bladder.

She shows "mild improvement" over yesterday.

I am pretty scared for her.

There is not much new to report, Venita has posted the latest info on Tawny's DCIN blog here: http://fdmb-cin.blogspot.com/2010/05/ta ... le-la.html

The doctors at the ER clinic are fascinated with DCIN, have asked lots of questions about the organization, and I just noticed that they have added DCIN to their Likes and Interests on their Facebook page! I have told them all about FDMB too!

Tawny was reported earlier to be drinking water and sniffing food, which is a vast improvement over yesterday when she had to be forcefed both water and food all day.

Her BG came down today, 211 this morning, I don't have a reading for tonight yet.

I just talked to the vet and she said Tawny is resting comfortably and may have eaten a little on her own, the vet had just gotten there and was trying to, as she put it, "decipher handwriting". She said she would set some food out by Tawny and see if she would eat on her own now and for me to call back right b4 I go to bed, that will be 2-3 hrs from now. I will try to post an update then.

Please keep the prayers and healing vines coming!

LVRC (Louisiana Veterinary Referral Clinic) says that Tawny is resting comfortably but not interested in eating, that they are keeping a close watch on her, and that I can get a detailed update in the morning between 8:30 & 9 a.m. when the regular drs. come in.

Keep the healing coming! Even I feel better and managed to eat a little potato soup.

I added a 911 to Desi's post to let everyone know that DCIN is collecting donations to help Desi pay for Tawny's treatment.

Tawny is a DCIN-placed cat, and very close to my heart. Tawny has been in the DCIN system for about 18 months. Desi "officially" adopted Tawny in January. DCIN has a rule--"Once a DCIN cat, always a DCIN cat."

Tawny's treatment is costing about $1K/day. DCIN has asked the clinic for discounts. DCIN has raised $585 so far, through the chip-in on Tawny's blog page.

Please, continued prayers, good thoughts, and best wishes for Desi and Tawny. Those make all the difference.
 
I just saw this. So sorry Tawny is going through this. It is very scary and I know that you are doing everything you can. Please know that we are sending tons of healing vines and snowflakes to you from Tulsa. ((((HUGS))))
 
I just saw this thread this morning. Im sooo sorry to hear about Tawny. I know how hard it can be.

So sorry to hear that Tawny has DKA but that's great the electrolytes are improving! Keeping her and you in my thoughts and prayers. When Blaze was DKA she decided she liked chicken baby food and ate a lot of that in the hospital. Hope Tawny eats soon.
