Hello everyone!
This morning Chnoudi' s AMBG is high, she has anorexia again, depression and she had diarrhea earlier.. :(:(
I'm totally frustrated, don't know what to think. She was very good yesterday in the afternoon, she ate many times and her bg was good. I gave her roasted chicken at night, but I don't think that this caused the diarrhea.
What's happening? Can a disease develop so abruptly in a few days? 2 days ago she was a healthy, active kitty

I don't know... He told me he will ask for a complete blood count and a check on creatinine, SGPT and something else I didn't know. Generally, he told me he'll check kidneys, liver and spleen
Pancreatitis is not included in the normal blood work. It is a separate test that needs to be done.

You need to ask for a snap fPL which the vet can do in the surgery and you will get a yes/no answer OR a Spec fPL which is sent off to a lab and will give a number as to the severity of the pancreatitis.
I would check for ketones in the urine if she is not eating and is unwell. Try and get her to eat something.. even if it isn’t totally suitable for a diabetic.. it’s more important to eat!

Unfortunately, it's Sunday and this makes things worse... I'll call the doctor and tell him to include the SpecfPL in the tests. Its not a clinic and he sends the blood away for the results, so I cannot learn soon.... :( thank you Bron!

Melita so sorry she's unwell.

My vet insists on looking at lipase to diagnose pancreatitis, it's not accurate in cats. It has to be the tests Bron mentioned.

Also FWIW all the symptoms chnoudi is getting is what George had with his bad teeth, George like chnoudi never says no to food.

Try making the good onto s puree, see if she will lick it from your fingers or teaspoon.

The liver shake is s big favourite with my civie Felix when he won't eat anything else.

@Bron and Sheba (GA)
@Bandit's Mom

Can you share recipe I'm in car.

I also think you should be considering starting insulin.

My go to for diarrhea (in me and the cats) is S. boulardii. It's a probiotic which is excellent at controlling diarrhea. This website, Raw Feeding for IBD Cats, has great information on managing diarrhea.

Diarrhea is a common issue in cats with IBD. You might want to give some thought to trying a novel protein diet. I thought I was doing good by feeding my guys only chicken and turkey. It turns out that they can be common causes of inflammation in cats. If you can track down foods that are new to your cat's diet (e.g., venison, rabbit, lamb, even pork) at least you can determine if there is some food source that's contributing to the problem.

Thank you so much Sienne!
I called the doctor and tell him to include pLf in the blood tests. So, now I have to wait for the results.
The truth is that last night I gave her roasted chicken..I don't know if that triggered her or caused the diarrhea.
Now, she continues to be sleepy and sick, she didn't touch the chicken I boiled for her but she ate 3-4 tsps of pro plan d/m pate.

THank you @Diane Tyler's Mom for the interest! :bighug:
She just ate a spoon of pro plan d/m pate 4 hrs ago, but then nothing. And she had diarrhea again later.
The vet told me that 3 times of diarrhea are not so many, and can't cause dehydration. But if she continues during the night, I have to go to a 24hr clinic to give her fluids. (serum? I don't know how to say it in english.) It's Sunday and this doesn't help.:(

I'm sorry that Chnoudi isn't feeling well. There is so much good information here already but just to add to it, whenever Eddie has had diarrhea, I have undercooked some rice with too much water and then just used a little of the rice water (really, just a little) on any food he might eat. Whenever he had diarrhea and wouldn't eat anything else, I dropped a bit of rice water on baby food and gave it to him on a spoon. Of course, while doing so I wasn't concerned with BG and Eddie does not have an underlying condition. His diarrhea was infrequent.

Hope she feels better soon.

Thank toy so much Jodey!
I tried to add water, but it helped only a little. She just licks the food, she does not grab it with the teeth... If the situation doesn't get any better I'll follow your advice with the rice water!
What do you mean "baby food"? I've seen it in many posts before. Pate for kittens or food for human babies?
The good think is that she hasn't had diarrhea again, the last 6 hrs. I hopes she feels better soon :(

Hi Melita, I've found the rice water works pretty much as it has subtle flavour. And, yes, I mean actual baby food. I use Gerber's beef, when I can find it. They also have a beef and chicken with gravy, but I don't give that because carbs, unless the situation warrants it. I can't find Gerber's any more in stores so have actually bought it off Amazon. I don't really use it that much at all but it's good to have around, especially when there's little to no interest in eating.

For human babies. You have to read labels closely to make sure there is no onion or garlic in it.

I found a simple recipe on the internet (if you have a blender).
Chicken and Turkey Baby Food Purée (Basic)
Ingredients:

  • 1 cup cold and cooked boneless turkey or chicken – chopped into no bigger than 1 inch pieces
  • 1/4 c plain water
Directions:

Step 1: Place turkey or chicken chunks in blender or food processor and puree until a powdery mix is formed. Slowly add water and puree further until a smooth consistency is created.

Step 2: Add as much liquid as needed to make a consistency appropriate for your baby.

Hi Melita,
the I get the Sboulardii from amazon.es

https://www.amazon.de/-/en/Saccharo...ules/dp/B003MWHOJS/?tag=felinediabetesfdmb-20 this is amazon.de I use amazon.es. Like Sienne, I use them if I have tummy trouble as does DH.

She just licks the food, she does not grab it with the teeth...
will she lick it of a teaspoon?
George was like this too, he wouldn't bite food, just lick it. It's what made us think he had tooth problem it was only when we went for a second opinion that he was diagnosed with bad teeth, had a whole stack of teeth taken out.
Does her mouth smell bad?

I have never used baby food so I cant help, I would puree the food in a blender till it was really smooth, he would lick up a bowl full.
When I have needed to assist feed I had enough water to be able to syringe it. You need to get suitable syringes.

Thank you very much @Red & Rover (GA) ! I just made this recipe with chicken and she ate!! 2 big spoons.
Could I use tuna in water instead ? I'm thinking it as an alternative for tomorrow if she is the same
great news.
Tuna in spring water would be fine too, nothing extra added

Yes, she starts licking from the bowl but then stops. If I insist with the teaspoon, she eats more. Her mouth doesn't smell, but my hand smells whenever she bites me during playing. And this is something I had noticed some weeks ago

That behaviour is very similar to George.

Have you raised the bowl when you put it down for her? If she is feeling nauseous raising the bowl helps. (they can feel more icky when they put their heads down to eat)

I hope she is feeling better this morning.

Goodmorning Gill!! Hope you are fine! :bighug::coffee:
Yes, she prefers to have the food in the same height with her.
She is better this morning, I cross my fingers she continues like this..!
She came alone to the kitchen to eat, although she ate with the spoon again. And no more diarrhea since yesterday afternoon.
She seems brighter and more active than yesterday.
I have to wait till tomorrow for the results and I think that my heart will broke
