Re: 11/6 Tiki AMPS 331, Better Day

Update on Sasha (drooler) - she is doing much better than yesterday. She is getting up on her own without me having to yank and pull at her to go out. She trotted for a little bit on her walk this morning, pooped, peed, tried to chase another squirrel and is eating a little more. This time I put in about a handful of kibble with the wet food and she ate all but a few nuggets. She also sensed when I came home just now and got up and walked around until she found me (she has lost all of her hearing, so she doesn't HEAR me when I come in). There is still significant weakness in her hind end but it's better. Less stumbling around it seems. She also tires quickly on our walks but less so than yesterday. So, as you can imagine, I am breathing a little better today for sure.

Tiki is playing hard to get right now. He is enjoying a sun spot on the floor and doesn't care that it's time for a poke. Can't say I blame him. ;-)

Re: 11/6 Tiki AMPS 331, +4 161, Better Day

Tiki fell for the catnip trick and relinquished his sunspot for a "stoning" LOL and clocked in at a nice 161. Good Kitty!!!

Nice slide for Tiki! Glad to hear Sasha is motoring around better. It's so hard to watch them struggle. Don't forget to take care of yourself, too!

Re: 11/6 Tiki AMPS 331, +4 161, +10 141, Better Day

Just got home and Tiki is still nice and low (I have become happy with anything under 200). Probably means it's gonna be a long night. Sasha came and found me as soon as I got home, almost seemed normal. Took her out and she seemed to even want to walk further than I took her but she seems to tire abruptly and then it's hard to get her to go on so we just went to the mailbox down the sidewalk and back. She happily ate the wet food again ignoring the kibble and then afterwards she acted really funny. It looks like her left eye is puffy and watering. After she ate she just walked around and seemed really confused. She kept putting her head in her water bowl but didn't drink anything. She seemed uncomfortable, with her head down. She finally laid down and closed her eyes. This was really different from how she was behaving all day. I hope it's not a pre-cursor for round 2. Any and all prayers welcome. nailbite_smile

I'm glad Sasha had a better day...sending tons of prayers that she remains feeling good and that tonight is just a wee little blip...

Hi Tonya,

Just wanted to stop by and say I am sending vines for Sasha - I hope she perks up for you and starts acting more like her well self. It is so hard not knowing what is wrong and what is the best thing to do :?

Come on down a little for your momma, Tiki, and surf safely! Hope you are able to get some rest Tonya~

Re: 11/6 Tiki PMPS 245, Better Day

Thank you all for your well wishes. I got some sleep last night but kept waking up with that dreadful nervousness that all you beans with sick kids probably know so well. Sasha was much better today but acted really strange after I fed her but then came back around to her new normal within 20-30 mins, whatever that means. So I of course did the thing we all shouldn't do - I went online searching for answers. I did find something really interesting called Hepatic Encephalopathy (HE) http://www.petmd.com/dog/conditions/endocrine/c_dg_hepatic_encephalopathy#.UnsjYvmTiSo. The one primary medical issue Sasha has had over the last few years is elevated liver enzymes. Something we've been watching but not really treating. I tested her for Cushing's a couple of years ago and it came back negative. She also doesn't have any of the other symptoms associated with the disease so we don't think it's Cushing's related. However, one of the symptoms of this HE is a confused state after eating caused by too much protein for a diseased liver to break down (or something along those lines). She has some of the symptoms of this, but not all of them, but it might surely be worth asking the Vet about. Will have to see if it happens again. I've been feeding her Hill's WD which she loves as I had some left over from a bout of diarrhea she had a few weeks ago. Only gave her a few spoonfuls at a time in case she threw up again, but her behavior after she ate tonight was markedly different from what it was just a few mins before (I did not notice this, however, at any of the other times I had fed her). I thought she had had a stroke or some small version of one as she didn't have ALL the symptoms (ie - temp was normal and not elevated, gums were normal and not dark red) - but this HE thing really has me wondering if I am way off the mark. Wish she just had a button on her head I could press and a printout would shoot from her mouth with all that is wrong - kind of like a Norton virus check, a scan runs and a list appears with all that is wrong with a FIX button to click on to clean up the mess. Sigh... :YMSIGH:

Tiki is here in my office hanging out with me giving me moral support. It's so funny how they KNOW when something's wrong. What a sweet little friend he is. cat_pet_icon

Re: 11/6 Tiki PMPS 245, Better Day

Newest step in the right direction - she finally took one of her milk bones from me and ATE IT. She hasn't done this since what ever happened to her happened! YAY!!!

So perhaps Tiki's hanging out with me was more about his quick slide in to the greens and less about moral support. He IS a cat and all. LOL
