Yesterday Neko continued her lovely blue streak through most of the day. In the evening, Mr. Twitchy (aka Liver) kicked in and we went pink. We are now into the second day of bounce recovery. All 5 P's have been observed today.

11/5 Recap:
AMPS 169 +4 179 +6 172
PMPS 377 +4 330

Both last night and this morning, Neko was extra hungry. Normally she doesn't get that way until she is in the reds. I put fresh litter in one of the boxes (Worlds's Best) and caught her try to snack it. ohmygod_smile :YMSIGH: That may have contributed to today's numbers.

Today it is 3 months since Neko's exciting SRT adventure at CSU. We celebrated by going to the local vetty for a blood draw. The folks at CSU recommended getting T4 done as hyperthyroidism is one of the few side effects they have seen of SRT. I decided to get a complete geri panel done because it has been 4 months and as the vet said "she has been through a lot in that time". The vet noted that Neko has lost a little over a pound since July. I too had noticed a weight loss, but she has been stable the last month. Her weight now is actually just about perfect for her, but we have to see if there is a reason for it. She is getting fed exactly the same amount. The two reasons I can think of are HyperT or with the acro tumor slowly dying off, she isn't getting as much growth hormone sent out. I'll get results of the blood test tomorrow.

I did ask the vet today how she felt about ongoing treatment of Neko. When she was first diagnosed with acromegaly, it sounded like she was hesitating and uncomfortable with it. As Neko was going up the dosing scale, and before the IGF test, I had told her that I was concerned that acromegaly was a concern, but she had poo pooed it as rare. Today however, she admitted that she does have other cats with acromegaly in her practice. I think someone has been doing some research! But as she said, I am also in the 1% of people with time and resources to do something about it. I think the vet was impressed in how far we have come down the dosing scale.

On one sad note, there was a poster in the exam room for someone looking for a new home for their new diagnosed diabetic cat - a brown tabby Manx girl, who looked just like Maggie! So cute, so sad. Apparently they aren't home much so finding the care too much.

Re: 11/6 Neko AMPS 341 +4 375 - back from vetty

Paws crossed for good results.
That's not a good celebration btw.... :o :-D

Can't we just blame the pinks on the vet? oh well....
Slide down, Missy Neko....

Re: 11/6 Neko AMPS 341 +4 375 - back from vetty

Come on down out of those pinks Neko! Glad she is 5 Ps and at a good weight :-D , hope her test results show no cause for concern.

Hi Wendy,
Good idea to have the various panels done. Neko sounds like she's doing fine, even if she is a bit high today. Good luck with the test results.

I hope the diabetic kitty finds a home.

Hugs from us,

Ella & Rusty

I hope you get good results back on the bloodwork tomorrow. Neko needs to clear that bounce and show you some more of those blues.

Re: 11/6 Neko AMPS 341 +4 375 - back from vetty

Hard to believe its been 3 months already! And i've been emailing both of Dr. Timian's email addresses, but no response from either. Maybe she's just really bad at answering emails.

Your vet sounds exactly like Leo's did/does. She thought i was crazy when i demanded the acro test, but she ate her words when she had to phone to tell me she was wrong and that Leo was an acro-cat.

I hope all her results come back normal, before SRT Leo's T4 tests always came back with him almost being on the verge of being hypothyroid, but this last test came back completely normal! Did Neko have anything elevated in her blood work before SRT?

Re: 11/6 Neko AMPS 341 +4 375 - back from vetty

I hope you get good test results. It is hard to believe it has been three months. Have a great night Wendy!

Re: 11/6 Neko AMPS 341 +4 375 - back from vetty

Wendy, I hope Neko comes down from the Vetty stress and the raindrops on the car. Vines and paws crossed for good results. Very sad about the owners trying to find a home for their Maggie Manx kitty. I hope someone adopts her. I think you have helped educate the Vet on acromegaly, and in turn this has helped her help other pets to get diagnosed properly. Have a nice evening.

Re: 11/6 Neko AMPS 341 +4 375 - back from vetty

Hi Wendy - what a nice vetty report. I hope all the labs etc come back with good results. Interesting too on the vet doing her homework. Maybe all for the better. Bummer on the manx up for adoption... I hope someone will take her in - always tough to find someone willing to take on a a diabetic.

I hope you day has been a good one.

Wendy,

I am so happy to see that Neko is doing well, is the correct weight, and I certainly hope all her geri tests are normal. What a lovely job you have done taking your baby.

Paws crossed for good lab results. Yes, I would say Neko has been through a lot in the last few months. You've done a great job with all of it. :-D

Yuck! Combination of vetty visit, bounce recovery, and maybe fur shot? I didn't feel any this morning but I did smell a bit of Lantus on her later. To top it off, I was late getting home from a board meeting and the evening shot was 25 minutes late. Oh well, it's not like we were on a roll.

@Rhiannon - we celebrated by driving 8 minutes to the vet, instead of 3 days of 8-9 hours each! But Neko did seem to experience a bit of vetty stress. This is the first time she's been in her carrier and the car since we got back from Colorado.

@Leslie - She went the wrong direction instead. I am curious about what the results will show. It's only 4 months since the last ones.

@Ella - Other than being hungry, Neko seems fine. But she is always hungry, some times more so than others. I do worry about the diabetic kitty, they were offering her for Free. Since she was a client of my vet's practice, probably also on Caninsulin.

@Carla - Yup, time for that bounce to be done with. Maybe tonight?

@Tracy - the one time I did email Dr. Timian, she did respond within a couple of days. But that was before school started so she might be busier now. I did think it was interesting that my vet said she has other acro cats in her practice. Before Neko's diagnosis it was just that she had some high dose cats and that wasn't unusual. Neko's T4 have always been in range, on the lower half. The only things previously elevated have been glucose (sigh!) and cholesterol. I wish I could have gotten Neko in yesterday - she was sitting in the blues all day long. There'll be high glucose again.

@Melissa - CSU seems like it wasn't that long ago. I am curious to see what changes there are in the blood work.

@Ann - Neko did come down a little at PMPS so I hope that the stress is going away. The Manx kitty looks so much like Maggie and they had a picture of her curled up that looked like one you posted recently. It's hard enough finding homes for older kitties, much less a diabetic one.

@Michelle - I was worried I might have to switch vets, and still might do so. I was really impressed with the local traveling vet recently. The vet didn't say anything about doing homework but for the sake of other kitties, I'm glad she has. Too bad they are still stuck on Caninsulin. I have worked/volunteered at the local shelter and seen how hard it is to adopt a healthy older cat.

@Dale - Thanks for visiting tonight. My thoughts are with you guys. Neko has been chubby for a number of years, so it is nice to see her lose a little weight.

@Liz - Thanks for the well wishes. I'm even getting them to email me the results - also a first for them. That way I don't have to scan the paper results to send to CSU. But you think the vetty office would be more into emailing results rather than paper copy - but maybe not many people ask for them.
