Started new dose of 1.75 units this morning.

I’m getting the impression that picking Jack’s food up two hours before his morning shot does not help get a more accurate preshot. Because all he does then is go into emotional spasms of stress and angst as soon as he realizes it’s missing, and the number shoots up even faster than if I don’t worry about it. (Also, he lets me get no more sleep.) He is a cat that has always been very worried about the presence of food. In general, he will actually overeat less if I keep his bowl more full, cause then he’s not as worried that it won’t be there later. I can’t certainly tell he’s been very hungry in his past, even if it was years ago. It’s like a phobia. I know he’s also more hungry because of his high BG, but it’s mental too; he’s been that way as long as I’ve known him.

Oy cats.

I ran into something similar, not sure it raised his BG, but when Herman was in higher numbers the two hour “fast” before preshot had him quite agitated and he would actively hunt me. My understanding is the 2 hour fast gets more important as you head into lower numbers (and then with-holding food should become easier as the cat isn’t feeling so starving all the time). In cases where I felt Herman needed a snack within the two hour fast period I just made sure to take an extra BG reading at that time as a baseline. This also helped me learn what kind of food bumps Herman was prone to having. Hopefully an expert can add some clarification, I don’t want to give advice, just sharing my experience. :)

That makes sense… I did wonder if it was more important when you’re lower. And if he’d be a little calmer by that point. Which, again, makes sense. I’ve been told that a two hour fast shouldn’t raise his BG, and biologically it shouldn’t, but I know that going to the vet and that having too many cats shut in his space (when we had to put them all in my room for a few hours because we were replacing windows) does seem to. So I imagine any serious stress might. Now, an empty food bowl shouldn’t cause that level of stress… it really shouldn’t. But this is Jack. This is the cat that will take three bites out of a full dish and walk away, but if he can see the bottom he has to try to finish everything left in it.

Maybe I just won’t worry about it for now.

These cats can drive us crazy! What do we need to do take them to a therapist :p
Tyler grooms himself a lot , his belly is almost hairless.
Vet told me it's like having OCD. Unbelievable. You and Jackson have a good night :bighug::bighug::bighug:
Good luck with the increase
