I think Asia got another fur shot last night :banghead:

I'm positive that the insulin went under her skin and not out the other side or anything like that. I inspected after the shot, smelled her, didn't feel anything wet. She smelled like insulin a little while later after I picked her up to get on the couch. I thought I was just imagining it, this was probably 30 mins after her shot? But I'm not sure exactly. Is it possible I squeezed it out of her when I picked her up? :(

Asia has pretty tight skin, every vet practice that has given her injections remarks on how not loose her skin is. Just in case you're wondering, this has nothing to do with dehydration, her skin is just not loose anywhere and she barely has any scruff you can grab, this is all the time since forever, she's just made that way. I don't know if that makes it easier for stuff to leak out? My other cat has so much loose skin everywhere that she can slip right out of your hands.

Any one ever have similar issues? Tight skin, leaking, etc.? Pro tips???

I was thinking to give her the shot early today by 40 mins? if that acts like a dose increase, maybe she will come down a bit. I was going to give it 30 mins early anyway because of the time change. Is this wise?

Just poured my coffee :) You were fine to shoot early this morning. Doodles had a lion cut most of the time and I was a chronic sniffer of the cat (he hated it by the way), it was funny. Anyway, I've experienced what you described a few times with smelling the insulin later but didn't when I gave the shot. Once I actually saw a sliver of a wet spot.

Be aware today though, last black start she surprised you with green at PMPS.

Hey Stacy, I had a similar leakage experience. It was after an injection of Adequan (for arthritis), which uses a larger needle. I ran my hand lightly over Maggie's scruff area right after the shot and liquid ran down her side. So yeah, I can see how you could have squeezed it out of her. Maggie also doesn't have loose skin. I can tell sometimes it is uncomfortable when I pinch to tent.

Lion cuts crack me up! Asia is a medium hair, so it's easy to get lost in the fur, but I do that roll skin over your hand method and I part the fur so I can clearly see I'm going into the skin and because of the angle I shoot and the short needle, it can't really poke out the other side. I wonder what can make it leak out, I am definitely not going to pick her up for a couple hours after a shot now. And we can't pinch the injection site to close it I read. Poor Asia, she's doing the beached whale sleepy position now.

I did catch what the last black did and I hope she rebounds quickly from this one as well. Hopefully shooting a little early will help her come down a bit faster.

Yes! Asia is much more annoyed by me rolling her skin to shoot than the actual poke. She doesn't even notice the poke. My DH could not believe when I had to give her b12 shots, she didn't even wake up from her nap when I poked her. When he saw it with his own eyes, he laughed hystericallly. Not bothered.

I can't shoot her scruff because she has a bunch of scar tissue from many years ago when I had to give her sub q fluids every day for about a month (this is when she had tooth resorption, but we didn't know that at the time and my vet was throwing the works at her to try to right the ship). She still has a bald spot there from all those giant needle pokes :( so I try to leave that space alone.

Will try not to squeeze my kitty for hours after shot time, even though she's so cute and squeezable. :cat:

+3 407, so she's zooming down today (yay) :)

She's been purring and her normal self with the high numbers, I thought she would be snoozy all day, but she isn't. Maybe how they feel is more cumulative than immediate? I don't know. It's pretty immediate and related to the numbers right now with people, but cats are weird, so it wouldn't surprise me if they did their own thing.
