It's been a while. I lurk daily but can't sit too long so I don't post. I want to update on all.
Katie: Katie is doing very well. Her wound is only about 4" in diameter now. She made up all her missed work over the summer and returned to school for her senior year. She was given a Tennessee Walker Horse. They are very smooth gaited so she is riding almost daily. Her beautiful little face is still puffy. She is still on prednisone. They are hoping to do reconstructive surgery in about 1 year. Thank you all for the thoughts, prayers and vines. The result is fantastic.
Tuffy- Tuffy would not eat while I was in the hospital. When I got home her numbers were running 400-500. I took her to the vet 3 days after I got home with the help of a friend. She was trying to go DKA. She was on subq fluids and finally started to eat for me. I started her back on insulin at .50 (because she loves the 20s and 30s). She eventually worked her way up to 4.25 units. Her numbers started to come down. She is now on 2.75. She has, as is Tuffy's nature) thrown a few 30s and 40s. She responds well to low carb so I have been able to bring her back up. What the future hold, who knows, I know she is not healthy and happy. I'll do whatever it takes to keep her safe and healthy. She has now decided it is not necessary to be 'stuck to me like glue'. She realizes that I am not leaving.
Khoko is very happy that his 'mom' is back. He is not quite as exuberant as he was. Thank heavens. The first few time I visited him while on crutches he almost knocked me over. He still insists on smelling my leg- Haven't figured that out yet.
I went for a 2 1/2 month check up. Dr H is thrilled. It is totally healed. The scars are barely visible. I have had some knee and ankle pain due to arthritis. He feels as I resume my normal activity (after 2 1/2 months of being restricted) that will lessen. I am back to doing the barn 2 mornings a week. I am mobile without assistance (cane or crutches). My only restriction at this point is I am not allowed to lift anything over 10 lbs. I have not ridden yet but I can sit in my saddle without discomfort. He expects a complete recovery and activity within 6 months rather then the usual year.
Prayers and vines to Roni, Claudia, Max and all the other kitties that need them. Also prayers for my family and friends on the Jersey shore. Also, all newbies, hang in there. This place is fantastic not always easy, sometimes sleep deprived but if not OTJ, you kitties can be healthy with great numbers.
On a brighter note, the Boardwalk (AC, NJ) ferals are all doing well. I bet they sought refuge in the casino parking garage upper levels. Smart little furbabies.
Have a wonderful day.
