Good Monday to all -
Thank you so much for the support. Tina is so full of energy - I can't wait to get blood results. She is acting like she is hyperthyroid (but great to see the energy and appetite), which I know from before her Iodine - 131 treatment a year ago. She was overtreated and remained hypo for too long. We added Levothyroxine for hypoT close to a month ago, and I think it's too much!
Her creatinine was over 4, so that's what I'm really praying is better.
She just had a walk in the "big" backyard and we loved it - it's a gorgeous sunny day out - on the way to 70s. She has been wanting to walk out the back door lately, and I've been letting her - tried to lead her to the cat house, and she said no - I want more freedom! She spent several minutes looking up a big tree!
So, anticipating I'm overmedicating, I only gave a 1/2 dose of the "thyro-tab" 0.1mg this morning.

My dad is in bad shape physically - his shoulder and back are hurt, with the shoulder being awfully swollen. Finally going to doctor this afternoon. I'm going to see another super senior relative shortly who has had horrible luck with his eyes, and another recent surgery. Tina promises to behave while I'm gone.

May each and every one of our kitties be blessed:bighug::cat::cat::cat::cat::cat::bighug:

I'm so sorry to hear about your Father, Jan. Good luck at the doctor's, I hope the swelling goes down and nothing is broken.
Your Mama has a full plate today Tina, be a good little kitty like usual and keep surfing safely.
Sending healing vines to your Dad and your other relative. :bighug::bighug::bighug::bighug::bighug:

Thank you all so much!! My mom's husband is the other relative; my mom was confused about the day I was coming - they were at the eye doctor again. So I ended up working out in the yard, with Tina alongside me, since DH worked in the house yesterday while I was gone.

So . . . Good results!! Creatinine went from 4.3 to 3.4, and Free T4 went from .5 to 1.5 -- I'm keeping the same dose of Levothyroxine. I'll input labs when I get them. Since I told the doc how fast Tina absorbed fluid, she said to try daily treatment to see if we get even better results. Major improvement in a little less than a month! I'm still a little nervous about giving fluids without my trusty helper, but he isn't always around, and I've done it twice by myself with no trouble. And Tina whispered in my ear she might get a reduction if she doesn't slow herself down!

Did you see my post last night about dosing?

great news on the creatinine but, personally, I would not give fluids every day with a creatinine of 3.4. You have to remember a few things:
  • Subq Fluids can help them feel better if they dehydrated but generally won’t lower the creatinine; IV fluids over a few days are needed to do that and usually that is only done when the creatinine is really high.
  • A cat should get as much fluid as possible for as long as possible by drinking and what is added to their food.
  • It’s possible to keep a CKD cat stable for a long time (my guy was over four years and his kidneys were still stable). That’s a lot of pokes and scar tissue builds up faster with the needles used for subq fluids.
  • Before I would give daily subqs, I’d be sure and echo her heart to ensure it’s in perfect condition so you aren’t overloading a compromised heart with fluids.
Many prayers for your dad.

Marje, I'm sorry, I just now looked back at your post from last night about dosing; I had missed it, and you! I think I need to give in and use the human meter instead of increasing her dose! My gut has been nudging me that way, and I am very familiar with LT's numbers.

I appreciate your very valuable input on the fluids. It was a little gut punch to think of a daily routine being needed. My goodness, thank you. And I had also considered her heart - which, thankfully, you brought back to my attention. She is a good drinker, and with her better appetite, I'm adding enough water to her food for a soupy mix, and she's fine with it!
Also, her thyroid hasn't had much time to be at a better level. She is having the time of her life exploring and much less time sleeping or being lazy.
Many thanks Marje:bighug::bighug:
