Good Morning LL and happy Friday!

Here we are one day before Muffin's 1-year-OTJ party, and she is obviously not feeling well this morning. So I checked her BG - 131. I'm suspecting another CP flare, poor thing, she hadn't had one since January. The vet is able to squeeze us in 5 mins from now, so off we go for BW/Fpl. I gave her some bupe already. Please send healing vines for her, and the ktss! Will update when we get back.

Re: 11/4 Muffin ambg 131 - CP flare? Off to vet

Hi guys .. oh no muffin! You can't be sick the day before your big party! I will send extra get well thoughts your way so you can party in style tomorrow!

Re: 11/4 Muffin ambg 131 - CP flare? Off to vet

Muffin, we hope that your vet visit will be fine and that all is OK with you. Rusty has just picked you a beautiful bouquet of healing vines and will deliver them later, when KTSS comes to call.

Hi Anne, We'll be watching for your update. Hope all is OK. It's good that you are prepared with Bupe, if it does turn out to be a CP flare.

Thinking good thoughts for Muffin. We want her to enjoy her anniversary party tomorrow!

Ella & Rusty

Oh no Muffin, I hope all goes well at the vet. And this is a minor problem.

Muffs! You can't be sick tomorrow, KTSS will be there when you get home and if you aren't feeling up to it we can just have some soup and catmint tea and tuna toast. That will help you feel better. -- Tess

hope you get some quick relief for the little muffin! that's no good, especially with a party coming up.

Re: 11/4 Muffin ambg 131 - CP flare? Off to vet

Thank you everyone for the good wishes.

Her temp was 104.5 at the vet, which makes me wonder about it being CP, as she's never run a fever with that before. Dr gave 100ml squids to help bring it down. He's running a senior panel with specFpl and did a cycstocentesis for urinalysis, immediately after which she peed all over the table! He gave an injection of dexamethasone, and a polyflex injection (AB) and we are to start clavamox tomorrow. If I remember correctly, the specFpl results take a couple of days, so probably won't know about that until Monday, but all other results will be in tomorrow.

He also wants me to recheck her temp every 2-3 hrs to make sure it's coming down. If it gets near 105, he wants me to call him and bring her back in for the day so he can put her on IV fluids and monitor her. I'll be here all day with her and will keep a close eye.

Thank you all for all your support - we just lubs you guys!

Re: 11/4 Muffin ambg 131 - CP flare? Vet Update

have they checked for a UTI or other infection? when Rocket had his high temp a short time ago even though the lab results and urine culture came back neg for infection he was still treated with Baytril as he had high fever.....

keeping you and Muffin close to my heart and prayers......

Re: 11/4 Muffin ambg 131 - CP flare? Vet Update

You do know that the dexamethasone is a steroid, right? What was it being given for? (I'm going to wax a bit didactic -- steroids depress immune response. When you hear about an anti-rejection medication in a transplant patient, that medication is a steroid. Because the steroid is used in high doses to prevent organ rejection, antibiotics are given because without the AB, the person would be vulnerable to all sorts of opportunistic infections.) Hence my question -- what was the purpose of the DMS? If it was or pancreatitis, would it make more sense to have a confirmed diagnosis?

Re: 11/4 Muffin ambg 131 - CP flare? Vet Update

Sienne - the reason he gave the dex was because he was concerned about the high temp. If there is infection somewhere, that means possible inflammation, and as far as I understood, he gave it for that reason. I don't worry excessively over Muffin taking steroids briefly / periodically since she's been OTJ, because even when she's been on pred for the past CP flares, it doesn't seem to effect her BG much at all anymore.

I think he was so concerned over her temp because on check-in, it was 103.7. He re-checked about 20 mins after that and got 104.5, so maybe he was concerned that it was rising quickly? Could just have been meter variance, but I guess you never know for sure.

First temp recheck here at home was inconclusive, as she kept moving at the end. I tried twice and got 98 both times, which of course is not right, but I'm assuming her temp is coming down as the thermometer was climbing very slowly. Will try again in an hour or so. She does seem to be feeling a bit better already. Fur is not spikey anymore, she's not meatloafing and looking nauseous anymore, and she has now eaten breffis #2.

poor muffin - that sounds crummy. pokes all over . . . i hope the AB does the trick - and that you get a diagnosis.

am + 11 is 180. She did eat 2 dinners over the last hour tho, so maybe some food spike there...or perhaps the Dexamethasone. ohmygod_smile  She is no longer fed in accordance with BG test times, but rather whenever she's hungry, so...

Thank you everyone for the healing vines - Muffin does seem to be feeling a bit better this afternoon/evening, and she is eating well again. Fur is still a little spikey, but no hiding at all, other than just after my feeble attempts to take her temp. And even then, she was just in the pantry, and when I found her she asked for treats :o I will give another dose of bupe tonight, just in case, since I don't have a dx yet.

Tank you ma fwien's fur, well...ktss to da rescu! I'z doin some better, and I'mma twy to getz eben better fur my pawty tomorrow! Lubs you all - Muffin

Keep on feeling better and better, dear Muffin. Rusty and I are sending lots of healing vines (a beautiful bouquet), and Rusty will be along with the KTSS to bring the chicken soup.
