I hope everyone had a great weekend, and a good Sunday yesterday. I spent mine at home, with a few local hikes to add some outdoor time to a weekend full of chores and errands and general relaxation recovery time from a very busy week with the boys. We had all sorts of weather, from severe winds, to heavy rains to gorgeous sunny fall days. What a combo! Sunday was an outdoor day for me. With blue skies and sun, I just couldn't stay in. We never made it much above 45, but with the sun, I just didn't feel the cool temps. Here's what I wrote last night about yesterday: "Hi everyone! I hope your Sunday has been a good one. Our weather has improved dramatically since the storm of yesterday morning. We had, for the most part, sunny skies today, cool at 46, a nice fall day. I was sitting here on the PC this morning, watching the dark start to leave us, the emergence of first light and thought that it looked darn incredible out there. SO I made the decision to go on an early hike through the woods to the shore, and see if I could catch that sunrise. I would have liked to have made first light, but missed that by 15 minutes. What a GORGEOUS morning at the shore. The clouds and the rising sun made for the most beautiful sky. I spent a good couple of hours down there watching the sky change. The tide was in so I didn't have much shore to walk with, but every time I turned back to walk the other direction the sky had changed once again. It sure made for a great time. Lund's Gulch Creek meets the sound here at the shore, and is known for it's salmon runs. We need the storms of November to bring them into the creek. I really didn't think that the storm that we had yesterday would have been enough, as it usually takes a couple of them to get the run going. To my surprise, as I was leaving, I heard them in the tunnel portion of the creek. oh joy of joys! The salmon were running. So I stayed even longer to watch some of the run. WOOT! Salmon in the tiny tiny creek. It is quite the experience to watch these fish navigate, and return every year to this creek. YaHOO! And what a morning.... The afternoon was spent raking leaves in the yard... there were so many.... not. fun. at. all. "   on those leaves...and we are just getting started. There will be many more sessions out in that yard. raking. oh goodie. Picassa link to yesterday, and the videos: Morning at Meadowdale, Morning Sunrise via mobile uploads, Salmon Run (photos) and Salmon Run (videos). Some of the salmon photos and videos appear almost black and white. Those were taken in the tunnel section of the creek, where one just doesn't see the color.

Normalcy in MusketeerVille!   What to say about the kitties.... They do not like the time chnage.  Elsa and Bug were all over me yesterday morning. Alot of hollering and whining and carrying on, simply because I would not get up at what thy knew was FEED ME time.   It was the same at the dinner hour... they started following me everywhere, making sure I knew they were hungry and how displeased they were that they were not getting their fuds, Lola was the loudest!  The whole thing so reminds me of BJ, when we had time changes. When she started in with this ear piercing bellow she had she just didn't stop. It took her a week to adjust. Miss you BJ, but not your time change bellows. The day yesterday was a good one for all of them. Elsa went out some, napped too. Bug spent alot of time just watching the outdoors from a window perch. Lola was... well... Lola. Lot of running here there and everywhere. She only knows one speed ya know: warp speed running. Alot of seeing what she could get into. Alot of "whatcha doing?" ALot of Lola.  But at least she left the plants alone. YAY! Yupp!
Normalcy in MusketeerVille!

Have a great day everyone! I'm not too sure what will be here today. One of those days when I shall see what comes to be. I may hike, if the weather holds. Paws crossed that it does.

KITTIES! Remember: think BLUE, think GREEN cat_pet_icon

Re: 11/4 LOOSE LIPS: sunrises, salmon, and Cheery Cherry Mon

Good morning! Sounds like you had a great hike yesterday. Love the pics! Oh my on the leaves. Ours are just starting to fall and I am sooooo not looking forward to all the raking I know will have to happen over the next month or two. Ugh.

Too funny on the time change. Charlie is the only one affected at our house. He was ready to go to bed at 6 last night and begging for the next two hours.

Have a great day Michelle!!

Re: 11/4 LOOSE LIPS: sunrises, salmon, and Cheery Cherry Mon

Nom nom nom on cherries and chocolate of any variety! Love to read of your hiking adventures in such a gorgeous part of the world. And especially like reading of the adventures of the musketeers. We now are taking care of two old and ill kitties, so it's nice to read about what life with healthy kitties is like!

Re: 11/4 LOOSE LIPS: sunrises, salmon, and Cheery Cherry Mon

Hey Lil Bit Pit,

Have you returned my jet yet? You said you just wanted to go for a quick spin after the Halloween party and I let you take the jet, cause those loop de loops that you do get my dizzy and nauseous! But I think you forgot to return my plane and now I'm looking for it. Where is it? What did you do with it?

We need to unspookify the jet and get it ready for the holiday season. We can't do that if we don't have it. :o

While I loves Cheery Mondays, I so would love my jet more....can you return it soon please.....

Signed Maui the Magnificent

Re: 11/4 LOOSE LIPS: sunrises, salmon, and Cheery Cherry Mon

Morning Liz ~O) ~O) ~O) oh yes on the cherries and the chocolate: always a winner here too. :-D THX on the hikes, and the three musketeers. I so get it with the caring for senior kitties. For a while that is what I had too. BJ was 18, Mannie and Elsa 17. Elsa is still going strong, knock on wood, but she has slowed down alot. It is refreshing, in way, to have two young ones. never a dull moment!

Re: 11/4 LOOSE LIPS: sunrises, salmon, and Cheery Cherry Mon

Hi Michelle,

It amazes me to see how the salmon struggle against the current! How strong that natural urge must be!! Looks like you had a fantastic morning!

I will also be glad when this time change settles in with the furbabies :-D I had 5 sets of eyes on me from 4:00 yesterday. Following me from room to room, and Cleo had to wait until 5:30! I am glad I won't get home till about 5 today, just to avoid that pleading look!

Have a great day!

Hi Jane ~O) ~O) ~O) I so know on those salmon. it is such a treat to watch them do their runs. Yes, the morning was great! I agree on the name change. I'm up at 4, have been for years, and to have those kitties start in at what would now be 3AM is just a bit unreal.   YUPP! I had those eyes too, just three sets,. but still! bone piercing stares...

Re: 11/4 LOOSE LIPS: sunrises, salmon, and Cheery Cherry Mon

Fantastic movies of the salmon run!! Were there any bears there, fishing? How exciting to see a salmon run! I should have stayed in the PNW!!

Have a great evening, Michelle,

Elsa, the hot coffee in thermal mugs was surely what we needed this morning!

Hugs, scritches,

Ella & Rusty

Re: 11/4 LOOSE LIPS: sunrises, salmon, and Cheery Cherry Mon

Those are great pictures. So neat on the salmon. I hate how our kitties don't understand the time change. They sure don't like their schedule to be changed.

Hi everyone! I hope your day has been great. I ended up at cougar mtn today. I had wanted to do a lake in Bellingham, but they had fog predicted until early afternoon. Cougar had sun, so off I went for a basic woods hike. It was nice, good, until I made a wrong turn and went a few miles out of my way, made two more after that, so had to back track to get to where I wanted to be. Still can't figure out how I screwed that up! LOL! At that point i realized I had dropped my trails map, and wasn't too sure on which trail (there are dozens) led to where I wanted to be. I can be so directionally challenged. so.... just went out the way I came, in. Shesshh! What an adventure. . Major good fun though. 11 miles later, and a 1850 foot climb.... not too bad for an afternoon out and about. :-D  I will post the Picassa link in tomorrow condo.

I would like to share something with everyone. A friend of a friend is an open water distance swimmer. Today he attempting to swim across the Sea of Cortez, near Mexico. The swim involves 80 miles of open water, with all the dangers that exist with swimming in the sea. As of this writing he is at the 31 mile mark, looking good. 1/3 of the way there. This is his third attempt. In his last attempt in 2012 he was pulled from the water at the 31 mile mark, as the currents were making any progress difficult. For every two miles he swam, the currents were pushing him back one. I so hope he is successful. If you have a chance check him, and the swim out. The website has a progress tracker: Sea of Cortez

Hi Ella - THX on the videos. it was such fun - noting beats being able to see a salmon run, and one so close! LOL, no bears... we do get racoons though that show up for the fish. Once in a while they manage to get one. River otters too.
Auntie Ella! YAY! I did good then, I hear you are gong to be mega cold again. I will bring more tomorrow, thermal mugs too! See ya!! Elsa, Lil BIT, kitteh barista

Hi Carla - THX on the pics, and the salmon. It really is very cool to watch. SO AGREED on the kitties. I was nearly knocked over when I came home today - rushed to the door they did, with that "WHERE'S MY DINNER!"

I agree with the kitties...I don't like the time change, either! Don't get too comfy about Lola leaving the plants alone. No doubt she's got plans in the works!!

Very cool about your friend the swimmer. I'm going to share that with DH, who is big into swimming, too....although he swims in pools, not in open water. But he loves it and everything about it.

Have a great night, Michelle!

Hello Michelle and thanks for taking me out to the woods again today. :-D The salmon videos are cool. There is a stream not far from my parents place that have salmon running and I always enjoy watching. I feel so sorry for the ones that get pushed back by the current after they've made so much progress going up stream.

Oh my on the wrong turn at Cougar Mountain. I've got an app on my phone called CityMaps2Go, and it even has the trails on our local mountains on it. Too bad you had to go the same way in and out. Just means you have to go back another time.

Cool site and swim by your friend. I've gone kayaking in the Sea of Cortez, and the breezes and currents can indeed be strong. At one point we were in two person kayaks and would go backwards if only one person was paddling.

I love all the tales of the cats that are complaining of late fuds. I'm currently trying to ignore mine for another 10 minutes. They think I'm so thick.

Cortez update: Paul pulled himself from the swim at 32 miles due to hypothermia. Bummer! But what a valiant effort. I bet he will be back. He was physically prepared for the distance, but this time the cold won.

Hi Amy - me neither! it just messes everything up! LOL on Lola, and I know you are right.... it is a matter of time. I KNOW she will be back. darn cat!  THX on the swimmer. He did have to pull himself from the swim. Sad, but safety first. I hope your DH will enjoy what he can read about Paul. Quite the effort!, and I am certain he will be back. He lives breathes and dreams distance open water.

Hi Wendy - :-D on getting you out into the woods! THX on the vids. I'm glad you have a place that you can go and watch them run too. It really is darn incredible. Me too on the ones that get pushed back. or the ones that decide after making all that effort that it isn't right, turn around and head back out to sea. yes, wrong turn at Cougar... not too sure how I did that, but realized after a mile that I had... I will look for that app! it would have helped today, once I lost my map! One needs at map at cougar, too easy to get turned around... yes on the going back. it's a god place to go for local hiking, lots of places, so back I shall go. THX on my friend's friend. He had to halt the swim: hypothermia. really too bad, but I bet he will be back. he loves it so. -- were you successful in ignoring your kitties? LOL on their thinking you are so thick. That made me laugh.

Absolutely spectacular photos!, it is so cool that you have such a great area so close! Ohhhhhh, I'd love to see the river otters!

I think our kittehs were too concerned by the loss of a bean this weekend to be bothered by the time change!

Hi Ann - THX on the pics. I do like that park - it has so much of just about everything, a small mini version of the great outdoors. We have had a few river otters come through here. They seem to know when there are salmon. A few times when I have been down to the shore early in the morning I have seen their tracks in the sand, Twice I actuality saw one. That was really cool! Awwww - your kitties missed you! Much more important than a time chnage. :-D
