I hope some of you are morning people to catch me before my morning shot. Of course input is welcome at all times.
Jerry's raised a couple red flags lately. It always throws me off when his preshot numbers are higher than his NADIR readings which did happen AM the 3rd and PM the 2nd.
Bounce this AM unsure from where, 269. And it's now been a verrry late night. With his before bed reading at 60 before he even hits his lowest point I knew I'd have to stay up. He did in fact hit 49 after constant watch so that constitutes a reduction which would bring him down to 1.25 but I have a question regarding this.
He hasn't been eating a ton lately. He gets fed 2 meals with his shots and 2 snacks with his midtestings to get him through. I wasn't pleased over the initial 60 or the 52 that followed as his food was still sitting in the bowl, it never used to last anymore than 2 hours and was completely cleaned to where now it's there and several hours later there's some completely dried leftover. I wasn't sure it'd be easy to get him to eat to boost himself but I did get a couple bites that were enough to increase him. I pray he stays that way as I desperately need sleep to get up and do it all over again in very few hours.
My concern for one is after getting that 49 reading while I was getting his honey food he threw up, he's always done it in a set of two this was a set of three either spit or bile it was white and bubbly. I do believe he's lost weight too now I really wish I had a scale. It's a different type of weight loss than before he was diagnosed, before I had worried of his spine sticking out but now it's a matter of less skin (fat rolls) to grab onto to help steady a shot. Not necessarily a bad thing maybe a benefit to his diet but I am a bit worried over not scarfing as before the puking and his fall below range today. In light of him not eating as before (I was thinking I was going to have to go in and save him the hard way conscious and all just because he really wasn't too interested) do I do the 1.25 unit or should I go with 1 unit and see if an increase is needed? I've worried about flavor boredom but in addition to trying to switch things up for him the honey food he got was a different flavor than what he didn't eat all of it earlier probably not even half. I'm worried if he's not eating well he's not going to react well to a 1.25 either. Worried over him not eating as much period him on a pate diet he's reacted to like a human on an ice cream and chocolate diet, he's always been so excited and happy about it thinking he's getting spoiled. I don't think he should be bored over flavors either as in his kibble days it was the same stuff all the time.
If I don't hear from anyone in time wish me luck and we'll be checking in. We appreciate any feedback thank you.

Congratulations on the reduction, and good catch.
I'm sorry, Jerry isn't as interested in his food. I've had the same thoughts myself, that my cats are getting bored of the flavors, as I'm sure a lot of people have. Have you tried adding any crumbled freeze dried all meat toppings over his food, or warming it up to mouse temperature? When J.D. doesn't feel like eating and I've tried several flavors, I'll often give him some all meat and broth baby food.
I also know that if J.D. doesn't eat for a long time, that he will throw up clear bile (sometimes frothy), and I am told that is from his early kidney disease. Have you had blood work done on Jerry and had his teeth checked, lately?
I think your spreadsheet is looking good, and you have done well to get Jerry to these great numbers. We all loose sleep on occasion, believe me. I had to learn how to sleep in and take naps, when I can. I would stick with the 0.25 reduction and see how he does, but it's up to you. I wouldn't want to stop the momentum you have going. Just remember that the reduction may take a couple to a few days for the depot to drain from the old dose to the new dose.

Those are my thoughts, and I wish you luck on the new dose, and I am sending eating vines to Jerry.

Hi Sarah,

I have no dosing advice, other than that obvious reduction that 49 gave you. Have you tried sprinkling a little something on Jerry's food? I use Forti flora (I buy it from Amazon) and that helps Cleo eat some of the low phos foods that she really doesn't like. Some people use the freeze dried treats sprinkled on top, parmesan cheese, etc. Has Jerry been using the litter box? Has he had a poo lately? Constipation can do things to their appy.

My Cleo has to eat every few hours, or she throws up white foam. that is just the way her tummy is!

Good luck, I hope you are able to get some answers, Jerry eats his fuds, and you are able to get some rest today.

Jerry's appetite may be "off" because he's getting far better regulated. When cats are newly diagnosed, they eat like they are starving (because they are). Once the insulin is helping glucose get into the cells, nutrition is getting where it's supposed to go an appetite decreases. In addition, many cats lose weight once switched to a low carb, canned food diet.

Hooray you guys made it to my rescue in time!
Thanks for the help everyone on the food suggestions. We're due for a little hiccup because I've read of so many stubborn cats not wanting to eat, he does just not at all in his previous quantities. At first I had been warming the food I read that they prefer it but one day I was running late and gave it to him out of the fridge and he gobbled it up so we've been doing it since. I can vouch that it brings out the smell, one I don't especially fancy but if it helps it's worth a try. I've never had to use toppers either so great information from everyone as always.
He's still going to the bathroom he did a solid after eating a few bites of his honey food.
I pray he doesn't have kidney issues. He had his bloodwork done when he was diagnosed and with his high numbers any kind of organ damage or close to failing I was very concerned over and everything had been fine then so hopefully he won't start now. I did check for any teeth issues and none that I could see.
Wish us luck for no further issues we like healthy happy kitties!
I'll go forward with the reduction to 1.25 and utilize your guys helpful tricks for making his food more appealing as needed. May be from regulating or his weight loss as mentioned which is okay if he'll eat when it counts. Thanks for being fellow guardian angels this morning everyone!
