5th cycle in 100s!!!
I am in shock!!!
Huge step!!

So now a zillion questions...

1. How do you leave the house when he is in 100s all the time??

2. What if he wont eat while I am gone??

3. I am not used to him being so insanely fussy about food. He ate 8.3oz 1st day and 10.9oz 2nd day.
That includes about 2-3oz if water mixed in food too.
Not sure how to have to cats that eat like birds. Advice? tips?

4. how can he play? normally he drops his bg when he plays & chows after playing. will it be enough?

ok thats for now. more to come.

1) You leave food out and trust him to go find it when he needs it. He's already proven to you he will.

2) See #1

3) Most of my 'regular size' cats eat roughly a 5oz can a day split between 2 feedings. My big boys usually eat a bit more than that, probably 7 ounces total a day. Sprocket is eating WAY more than any of my 13 daily....you are basing his 'should eat' on what he was doing before he finally started insulin and finally figured out how to use it.

4) Yes it's enough

OK that's for now... :)

Make sure he is getting enough calories (or less by a bit if he needs to lose/a bit more to gain).

Formula for adequate calories to maintain weight is - cat's weight times 13 and add 70.

So a 11 lb cat X 13=143 +70=213 calories/day

Thanks Larissa.
This is nuts. I am still in so much shock. He is amazing!! Never had such a unique cat. He is part human as he listens so well & understands what I say.
He has appt next tuesday afternoon for bloodwork to check everything.

And vet said to keep the famotidine & ondansetron 1-2x a day till then.

ok well he is about 15.5lbs last check.
so 271.5calories.
I dont count calories. I have been counting ounces he eats and I write down what it is and carbs.
He can lose a couple of pounds but he is a big cat. Big feet. part Maine Coon.

My Neko was a 14.5 ish lb Maine Coon cross that maintained her weight on 4 oz a day and around 200 calories. Of course it was raw which is denser food. For cans, a 5.5 oz can around 200 calories was enough. Counting calories is important. Some foods are a lot lower or higher calories than others. Activity level also plays a part in amount of calories needed.

By the way, like Lyresa says, celebrate the 100's, leave food out and get out of the house. Worry if you want to leave and it's below 100's.

Food can vary calorie wise - the food I am currently feeding is only 93 calories per 5.5oz. Previous food (which he quit eating :banghead:) was 133/5oz. Just making you aware. I wasn't when I first stared - like you, primary concern was carb count.

ya its hard to keep track of so much. He is so fussy. I did look at calories before for about a week just to check about how much but I cant do that daily. Its hard enough figuring out which cat eats what. I measure when I see them in a bowl.
I journal carb count, time, name of food, approx amt of water in bowl, and then how much he eats in ounces.
It has helped to look back and see what he eats when he is at bgs to know if a certain food makes him go up or down.
Medium carb isnt doing much for his bg these days.
Is there an easy way to count calories that you do?
organization is not my strong thing at all so suggestions are always needed.
ADD mind makes for complex thinking.

Not really. Gizmo eats the same food every cycle/day until he doesn't . Then it is finding something he likes, that he will eat that is low carb and low phos :banghead:.

You can look at the foods tab on Gizmo's SS. That has my analysis. I use the calories listed on the can and compare it to the list here. I convert oz to grams because it is easier to use grams (imo).

ETA-and I use digital scales to portion his food.

Wow!! Same food??!! I have never been able to do that.
I will take a look at your SS.
I do have a digital food scale too. It helps to know how much they eat.

Officially in 6th cycle in 100s!!! :bighug::cat::cat::joyful::joyful::):) Wow!!! Shocked still!!

168 PMPS.
he ate 1.9oz of 8.3%carb Max Cat which is probably more like a 7carb.
So its time to stop the medium carb and see what the normal carb at shot time does.
Gave 1.75u dose. same as the morning.
Lets see what happens.

Yep. I figured I need to do it eventually. Today he had 3 and 4 carb food for day cycle.
I will test at least 2-3x before bed to make sure he is holding steady.
Trying to teach him to eat without snacks.
Yes I know...bad mommy but i was desperate then he got me....lol.
Told him it makes his poop worse.
I am trying to post bg on my SS at least so anyone can look.

And his poop was almost formed at 7pm. But still very smelly.
:nailbiting: lol
