Yesterday was nuts...

So just shy of $600 later... The dog is fine. The found nothing in the GI tract. Their best guess is that piece of plastic Happy Birthday topper just irritated the crap out of his GI system. So we will see if this occurs again and in the meant time he has meds to take.

Izzy is status quo.

I did get her recent blood work back. It is sheet 2 on her SS link. Her numbers are high I am upping her aluminum hydroxide to 1/4 tsp 2x day. SubQs are now daily. I upped her jarrows B to a dash 1/2 2x a day. IF anyone has a CRF Sugar cat and has time to view her SS and give me their thoughts that would be fabulous.

I try to move her back legs around some...she has lost so much muscle mass back there she is having a hard time walking. We are also gonig to start her on a pulse antibiotic to make sure she stays UTI free since...she lays down to poo and sits to pee....I know its just a matter of time before we have another UTI going on.

Working this month 3 shifts on the weekend along with my 40 hours M-F job. Thank goodness for vacation time on my real job or I don't think I would make it! So much for a little extra cash.....Dog just sucked that right up! (I love my pets, I love my pets, I love my pets....serenity prayer).

I LOVE this board for the community and support it is....though I swear I have never cried so much in my life every time someones baby goes to the bridge.

How much does Izzy weigh now? If you are upping her aluminum hydroxide binder to 1/4 tsp bid (spread out over several meals), then that is a ton of binder. Her phosphorus level is pretty high so I understand your need to do something because you could start seeing some of the results of high phosphorus levels like mouth and tummy ulcers. .....and she will just feel like crap. Have you discussed giving that much binder with your vet? While it is uncommon but can occur, you want to be aware that large doses of aluminum hydroxide could potentially cause aluminum toxicity. If you are giving more than 50mg/lb, you should be discussing it with your vet.

I know it's not ideal because the % calories in carbs is 9%, but you might want to see if izzy will eat Hi Tor Neo renal diet. It is very low phosphorus. You can always increase the insulin, right? Feeding the Hi Tor Neo would allow you to decrease the binder.

How many mls of fluids is she getting a day? Are you giving LRS? Just as an example, my Gussies creat was 3.5, BUN 58, phosphorus 4.7, he weighed 8 lbs, and I was giving him 150 mls of LRS/day. Izzy is likely to need more than that since her BUN is high but you need to clear it with the vet (in case there are any cardio concerns), and it's often better to give it bid when you get up to 200 mls or more a day.

You've done a really good job of getting her anemia under control. I always gave Gus 1/2 of a 500 mcg methylB12 and 1/10th of a Jarrows B Right. You have to give both....not just one or the other.

Her potassium bears close watching if her creat goes up over 5 and it is close. You don't want her become hyperkalemic. Here is some info regarding potassium levels. Scroll down till you get to the section on high potassium.

I'd also talk to my doctor about testing her for metabolic acidosis. Muscle wasting can be a sign of this condition. I did have some test run on Gus because of his muscle wasting but he did not have MA.

Her calcium looks good. :-D

I know what you mean about babies crossing. It's been too many this year. Please let me know if you have any other questions or I can help you.

My vet is the one whom recommended the 1/4 tsp bid.

her last weigh on my baby scale was 10.1 1/2 lbs.

I've tried Hi-Tor and she won't eat it. I tried both the new version and when they went back to the old version. Would not touch it.

She is not on LRS...my vet prescribes the sodium chloride and she is up to close to 100ml daily. We just started that...we were at 50-75 every other day.

her current regime is I syringe feed her twice a day before her shot. It is about 15ml and it contains a 2 scoops baby spoon size) beachnut squash and babyfood, 2 dashes of spirulina, 1 dash 1/2 of jarrows, 2 dashes of RenaFood, 1/2 a zobaline, a little taurine and sometimes some lysine and a dash or 2 of aluminum binder with the rest going on her regualar cat food and her miralax. In her PM syringe I add her high blood pressure meds.

Then I give her her bowl of FF or Friskies Special diet with the rest of the aluminum binder.
 
I have been on Tanya's page for some time...going back there at various time through Izzy's original diagnoses 3-4 years ago. Today I looked at her saying goodbye page. She has a list of 29 things to look for....so far Izzy has
High Bun/Creatinine
Not an inability to walk, but certainly difficulty walking
High Phosphorus
borderline Anaemia
High end of normal Potassium
Mental confusion...in that she zones out sometimes
Occassional meatloaf possition

She isn't exactly incontinent....she just can't make it to the litter box and she can't hold herself up to pee because she is so weak in the back legs. Though sometimes she sleeps so hard she does pee in her sleep.
 
((((janet)))) it sounds like a complicated case. punkin had the beginnings of CKD - not to the point of needing a binder, so i'm not sure i have much to offer other than sympathy. we did feed him the Friskies Special Diet Turkey and Giblets, which is pretty low in phosphorus.

cheering you guys on. sounds like you're doing a lot to help Izzy. i hope she responds quickly!

It sounds like you are doing a great job. I just wanted to be sure with the AlOh binder so glad he's on board. Many vets are not familiar with it or uncomfortable with higher doses but, if I were you, I'd be wanting to use the higher dose at this point. You have everything to gain by getting the P level down.

I would be giving her more subqs at a time. That's not very much for a cat with her numbers and her weight. I was giving that much to our kitty that weighed six lbs (which was her normal weight...she was little).

When numbers are where hers are, you have the option of having your vet admit her for IV fluids. That should bring the creatinine and BUN down. I am only mentioning this because it's an option and I want to mention all your options so you can decide.

We always felt that, with Gus, if his numbers got really high, at his age and with his other health issues, we would not put him in the hospital. We did not want that for him and that might be where you are with Izzy. She has a lot going on and, even if it does improve her numbers (and it doesn't always), they will eventually go back up.
