+7 104 o_O Did she move her nadir on me? Or is she just coming down? I have to say it feels fantastic just to see her spend time in numbers that aren't damaging her kidneys!!! I really couldn't ask for more than that.

Does anyone think 33 gauge lancets are easier on the ears? I was using 28 and got 33s just to see if I could get enough blood (I can). Asia is so patient and didn't even flinch with ear pricks before, but she had a couple days where her right ear just wouldn't bleed and so the left ear had to pick up the slack. When I poke her left ear, sometimes she makes this sad grumble, so I think it's a little bruisy. I got the Halo herbal healing salve today, so hopefully that will help as well. Asia is steadily dropping, I've been taking up food every am cycle around +5. Should I feed her a small meal now (Rad cat raw, low/no carb) to get her numbers up a tad before PMPS? Or just wait this out and see what she's trying to do here?

33 gauge would certainly be easier on the ears. Blood flows from the tip of the ear down, so if you put a little pressure with your fingers just below where you are going to do the ear prick, it will create a "dam" and it is easier to get a blood drop. Don't forget to put pressure on the spot where you pricked immediately after the prick (I wrap it in the gauze pad I use to "back" the prick site). This will help to prevent bruising. Often one ear bleeds better than the other. I test only on Rusty's right ear. 7 years of testing and it looks fine.

That's what I was trying to find, I got the wrong one?! :banghead: I see one with the ginger cat, but no insulin vial? I'm really not much of a Facebook person, but figured I'd join anyway. I don't see one with an insulin vial? It's just called feline diabetes?

I always used 31g. The 33g were a little too small and even though Gracie’s ears bled really easy, I found the 33g needed a harder poke. I always used a cool baby washcloth to hold on Gracie’s ear after the poke. That kept her from bruising. After 5-1/2 years of many pokes, because we were testaholics, her ears still looked really great.

Did you still need some help or is everything ok and you have a plan for tonight?

I hold a tissue firmly after I poke, and I don't see any bruising (under sides of her ears are cream color) but I can tell by the tiny noise she makes that it's ouchie right now. Why would the 33g be a harder poke? That doesn't make sense to me? I just thought those 28s were so unnecessarily big and I got enough blood for those really thirsty meters.

My plan for tonight is to shoot 1.75 since she came back up a little and then I'm going to hang on tight and see where she goes. :confused:

Because the lancet on the 33g is so tiny, in some cats with tougher ears, it might take a little bit harder poke to get them to bleed. I just found with Gracie, I had to poke her harder or poke her twice to get enough blood with a 33g lancet. The 31g worked great for her and I barely had to touch her ears with it to get a droplet the size I needed. For me, it’s about less pokes and the ones we do, be gentle. Asia might do just fine with 33g. Give it a go.

The 28g are good for when members are starting out and the capillary bed hasn’t formed enough so it’s tough to get the ears to bleed.
 
Whoa - nice surfing today Asia! It's so nice to see her in these beautiful numbers!! :D:D It was like that for Darwin - he seemed happiest in yellows for a long time, and would seem "cranky" if he went into the blues, and especially greens. Then he just decided he loved the way he felt in greens, and he didn't look back!

Okay, that makes sense. I get her on the first poke in the left ear, the right one doesn't want to bleed with a 33 or a 28 :rolleyes:

She does seem more energetic in low numbers, the high ones didn't used to phase her (outwardly), but now they make her snoozy. So before I was freaking out and sad because she was high all the time, now I'm freaking out because they are going so low, but it's a freaking out and happy thing too. I'm so happy her color pallet is changing! And now Darwin really likes the greens! Hope he's still happy and awesome post dental. What a difference it makes, right?

Yay, I am so happy for Asia!! Her color change is beautiful, and I hope she is learning not to bounce - it helps tremendously!!

Thank you! Darwin is still feeling amazing! He was playing with some feather toys last night, and having an absolutely ball!! :D:D
