Muta - 15 yo - Diabetic for 2 yrs. 2 units twice a day Lantus.
We had a miscommunication tonight about who fed him.
We both did.

He got his usual 2 units and half a can of wet food.
I came home about an hour later and gave him that again.

We just tested him and its 307 he is usually in the 180.

I plan on being with him for the foreseeable future tonight and am looking for any input.
We are hoping his small dose will help us out in this situation, but we do not know.

Thanks

A couple of questions- what meter are you using, pet or human? What was the wet food that you gave? Your test of 307, when was that as it relates to the first shot? It is possible that you will have a busy night ahead with testing frequently, and intervening with high carbs, syrup or honey if necessary. Is there an emergency vet nearby in case you need to go? Without seeing how your cat has been on Lantus typically, I would say test again 1 hour from first shot. You may end up getting an overlap of onsets, in which case numbers will drop fairly quickly and a double dose can influence blood glucose for longer than it typically would. This post helps a little regarding dealing with low numbers.

If possible, please do also keep this post updated with blood glucose tests and information so that people like myself and others are able to help. Usually we would also ask you keep your spreadsheet updated, but since you don’t have one, I need to rely on your updated posts in order to help. Thanks.

Thank you for the summary, so far every hour testing will be fine, you may need to go to every half hour depending on numbers. Purine proplan has a pate and a savoury sauce, to clarify, which one? The pate is 6% carb and the gravy one is 10%. See you at +3.

Unexciting is more than fine with me.
We will be up until at least then to check levels.
I appreciate your input.
I will keep the SS updated.
