Morning ~O) ~O) I hope we can keep surfing blues today. Well, I'm kind of stumped! Yesterday it seemed right after I sprinkled Bonito Flakes (sample from PetPeople), Maggie's bg went up into the yellows. So I stopped after I saw the 224 and 206 bg in yesterday's ss. She started coming down slowly, and this morning is a nice AMPS. I did return yesterday and asked about the bonito flakes sample, and the person said it is only fish flakes. Any one else here notice a spike in bg with bonito flakes. I didn't get the brand name, but just researching here, I find Cat Man Doo is a popular brand with no additives/preservatives. I'm going back and check the container closely and pick up some World's Best Cat Litter, too. Last night I woke up just after falling asleep to find Maggie screaming and trying to fight off a stray kitty thru the patio glass - big bang, too! I think the kitty belongs to someone here in the neighborhood, well taken care of and didn't run when he/she saw me. Maggie can be a little bully when any new four legged feline comes around loafing in her territory. :lol:

Way to go Maggie! She is just protecting you Ann! :-D I have no idea on the Bonita flakes, but it sounds suspicious. Nice to see Maggie back in her blues today. She is always so even and has been throwing you some loops lately. Must be wanting to make sure you don't get bored. :lol:

Interesting about the flakes. It does sound like too much of a coincidence to NOT be the flakes, and I'm sure the spike could be one of those ECID joys of FD.

I know Marje give them to Gracie regularly. I've just started w/ Tess, I wonder if I can blame the recent numbers on the bonito flakes. :roll: :lol: I buy mine at the Asian grocery, single ingredient, dried tuna.

Could be Ann, with Tess, you never know. Try taking them away for a day and see what happens. This is a test today to see if Maggie surfs without them. But the only to really tell is to give them to her again and see what happens. Mags can't eat the Salmon sprinkles. Watch Mags make a fool out of me again and go up to the yellows! :lol:

No Bonita Flakes today and no spike!

Thanks Melissa, Iorwen, Amy and Ann & Tess for visiting. I know lots of kitties have these flakes as toppings and snacks, but it sure looks like they spiked Magggie's bg yesterday. Yes, she sure is a good protector with her screaming and trying to fight thru the patio glass pane. She's still got her "street smarts" skills from when she was a feral and defending herself.

What a little guard kitty you have. Good job on protecting the neighborhood, Maggie!

For some reason, Simon didn't like the bonito flakes when I gave them to him so he didn't try them long enough for me to notice a difference in bg. Maggie is pretty sensitive to things, isn't she, so this might be just something she reacts to in a negative way?

Hi Georgia, yes she is very sensitive to things, so I believe it's a ECID theory. I remember the salmon sprinkles really caused a spike. Thanks for stopping by this morning.

Morning!! What a nice blue surf for Maggie - WOW!, and YAY! Go Maggie!

interesting on the bonita flakes. Mine too are 100% dried tuna, no additives. I haven't given them to Mannie in a while, so can't really say on the effect on BG. I used to give them to him as a treat after testing, and never did, as I remember, notice any spike in BG. ECID for sure.

Nice surf for Maggie!

I've been putting a sprinkle of the bonito flakes on Weezer's food everday, as an inducement to eat the homemade. I can't say she spikes, but I also can't say I like her numbers. I'm going to have to try a day without them and see.

How's about getting the halo liv a littles, I think they make a salmon snack?? I know Moonie doesnt spike from the liv a littles chicken, she was always So So with the bonito flakes, Copper did like them though--

Hi Michelle, Linda & Roni, it may be just a coincidence or not with the Bonito Flakes theory, but Mags is back to a nice flat blue cycle. I remember what happened last time she was flat with the drop to 58, but no chance with just one drop.

Most of mine have been pretty laid back...
but imagine my surprise when shy, quiet little Binkster erupted the day a neighbor's drooler went after Homie (ga).

he rocketed through the screen door...chased that dog (a Queensland Blue Heeler) all the way home,
and proceeded to kick it's butt all around it's yard :lol: :lol: :lol: :lol:

I was utterly amazed at his secret tasmanian devil side :shock: :shock:

Oh Binksy, that is so funny. :lol: :lol: I can just picture Binksy chasing the dog. They do seem more like little dogs with their body types and personalities.

and from that day on...it NEVER caroused that side of the street again.

two weeks later, Binks trapped a plumber in the bathroom.
he was crouched down, huffing & growling at the guy...
and when i got after him, they guy said "I think it's my fault"
and showed me a cat toy he had picked up off the floor :lol: :lol:

small wonder the Torties feel terrorized

Hi Ann,
Rusty wouldn't eat the bonito flakes and never cared for the freeze-dried salmon. We found out months later that he seems to be allergic to fish (had a bad reaction to fish-oil capsules). Does Maggie eat the fish canned foods? I am very careful now to read labels, because some foods that purport to be chicken have fish in the list of ingredients! I would think that if Maggie has a sensitivity to fish, anything like the dried fish flakes would spike her bgs. In any event, you seem to have solved the bonito mystery. It's not for Maggie!!

Hi Ella, very interesting with Rusty not liking the bonito flakes and allergic to fish. Maggie did spike with the salmon freeze dried treats, and apparently I know she now can have no no tuna. No, Maggie doesn't eat any fishy food. For a while she was eating FF Seafood Feast, but didn't have the best bg's on it. Yes, I think I did solve the bonito flakes mystery with today's cycle.
