Ollie is continuing his upward trend. I feel so helpless having to wait for a dose increase and watch his numbers rise. Guess I better put my big girl pants on and deal with it. Since he has now done this "dance step" twice...got nice and low doses and then wham...back up the dosing ladder. I need to be grateful he seems to feel great and that this is his routine...at least for now.

Prayers and healing vines to all in need. Much love :YMHUG:

I applaud your attitude, Patsy. It's their dance. We like to think we're calling the steps, but we're really just interpreting after the fact and basing decisions on what they show us. Good luck!

((((Patsy)))) I've been there, so I know you're frustrated. If I were you, I would be aggressive in getting his numbers back under control. 6 cycles max, then up by 0.25u until he hits another breakthrough.

Second thing I would do is try to get to the bottom of what is going on. Sorry I haven't been in your condo recently, so you might have already addressed this. How is he feeling? Eating ok? Everything ok in the litter box? Teeth? Any changes at home that might cause stress? A vet visit wouldn't be a bad idea if the numbers stay like this. The BG is one of the best windows into what is going on in our cats' bodies and sometimes they can be the first clue that something is wrong.

Another thing - I can't believe I'm about to write this because 99% of the time I disagree when people blame the insulin, but I do notice that these changes began shortly after you changed bottles. Might not hurt to change to a new cartridge.

When Lucy lost her numbers, I blamed everything. Changed insulin, got new test strips and I think a new meter or two, took her to the vet, everything. I cried a lot. It turns out that all she needed was to go back up in dose and none of those other changes were necessary, but it's still a good idea to look at your options. If it's any consolation, on Lucy's 2nd trip down the dosing ladder things went MUCH better. You're catching this quickly and I think you can get control back quicker than I did.

Thanks Libby...it helps to read your post...you have walked in these shoes. I treasure the experience shared here.

Quick recap of situation. Ollie's eatting, using litterbox, teeth ok. Full check up in August...when he was doing basicly the same thing except it was not noticed as quickly (I had not started posting here yet and was listening to vet for everything). High level of stress has been in the house due to preps for a seasonal move for work that involves me flying with Ollie (on 12/14). Renting the same condo he lived in last year when we did this and he adjusted well to changes. I just have much more on my olate this year workwise moving...hence the stress. Been trying to leave it at the door and have relaxed myself a lot...it is what it is...is helping me focus.

I have a vet in Florida so once we get settled I planned to bring him for a full work up. I am using bottles vs cartridges of Lantus. I have troubke getting prescriptions from current vet. I have one refill left and planned to use that once we get to Florida. I planned to fly with the current bottle. I hope to be abe to get another prescriptiion when I take him in for checkup.

I do have the past bottle of insulin in fridge...maybe I should use it for a few days and see what happens ?

Ollie is napping now. He's such a little trooper. Thank you for helping me try to get him regulated again.

it's amazing how zen they can be through this, isn't it?

hugs, guys!

It seems Ollie has a weeping eye. His right eye had a good size "clump" of greyish goop in the corner and it's damp all around the eye. Pupils match and he's not squinting but there is a discharge. Is it possible the start of an eye infection could cause his numbers to jump like they did ?
