Poor guy and those teeth. He did good while they had him on that antibiotic shot. Which one was the safe one? I am thinking of taking him in and having them go ahead and give him that shot.

About the increase... I am assuming, since I did not do it this morning, if I raise it by .5, it would be better to do that in a morning cycle where I will be awake to watch him? Is it too late to give him the extra .5?

Hi Tina

I think the AB injection that lasts real long is Cerenia. They say to avoid it because once it goes in it lasts for 2 weeks.

Usually they recommend only increasing by .25U at a time. More experienced eyes can give you better dosing advice. I know how hard it is to see higher numbers, and our kitty not feeling good. I hope your vet can make Frank feel better~

ETA - you may not see the benefit of an increase right away. It may show up in the next cycle or even later. Depends on how full the depot is.

Convenia is the long lasting AB you want to stay away from. So called "convenient" for owners, but it was an AB to be used for skin disorders.

The .5U increases are if nadirs are above 300, and Franks only seen them in the 290's at this dose, which is pretty close. I find it doesn't really matter too much when you increase (day or night). At least my cat was never consistent when she showed the results of the increase. Sometimes right away, or sometimes she got new dose wonkiness and waited a couple of cycles. I'd wait until tonight is it's been more than 15 minutes.

Good luck with your increase tonight Tina! Would sure be nice to see Frank in some more comfortable numbers soon. The wee guy deserves it :-D I hope they will be able to address his teeth soon, this must just feel rotten for him. :YMSIGH: Mind you, after the life he has lived so far he probably thinks he's in heaven and doesn't even know he has bad teeth!

I don't mind giving him the antibiotics. He did pretty well with the shot last time, though. It seems as if his numbers started to come down as he was given a chance to heal some then as the shot was wearing off, he jumped back up. There is nothing saying that he won't do just as well on the oral antibiotics, though. Perhaps I should try to be patient and see how it plays out. I'm ready to see him get well enough to get those teeth fixed. I know he will be happier.

So, am I reading this wrong or does it seem as if the lowest part of his cycle is at pre-shot? I am not exactly sure what to do with this or what this could be an indication of...

Tina - you might want to change your first post to AMPS. I did respond when it was still dark here, but it's light now. :lol: :lol:

Clindamycin is a AB I've seen prescribed more for mouth/dental issues but best to talk to your vet. Let him/her know you are OK with pilling and that may suggest other options. I think they often suggest Convenia because it's more likely to get in the cat.

As for the low at the end of the cycle - some cats like to nadir late. When Neko was on Lantus, I noticed that when she started higher, her nadir was often later. It could be that towards the end of the cycle is when Frank is starting to get over his bounce. It's not really an indication of much. But it does get you used to shooting lower PS numbers. :smile:

I think he could have a late nadir, like around +7 or +8, and he could be just coming up from his late PM nadirs in the morning when you've seen some lower than normal for Frank PSs. I'm not totally sure, so let's see if anyone else sees something different.

Good luck with the increase. I think I would go with the 0.25 increase as it looks like you don't have a lot of data yet, and you don't want to accidently pass right by a good dose.

I would stay away from the convenia shot and just give an oral antibiotic that is of more use for mouth and teeth issues.

We've had a better day today...not quite in the numbers I'd like, but somewhat better.
 
He got his increase, and although the numbers are still high, they look like they are following the pattern of an active cycle.
