Amps: 410, 5u

Upped dose today. I'll hold 4 days then increase by either .4 or .5 u. Depends on which syringes I buy. I'll check my vets price for u40s to compare to walmarts price for u100s.

hi, claudia
i saw a few of your earlier threads.
i haven't posted on pzi in a while but have helped a few prozinc kitties. my cat was a diabetic for over 3 years.

now that you're at a whole number (5u), i would recommend 0.5u increases until you see more movement in the numbers. not healthy for a cat to remain in high numbers for too long, and many cats tend to develop insulin resistance that needs slightly more insulin to snap them out of it.

earlier your cat's numbers seemed to improve as the dose got larger, but they seem to be going up a bit or stalled at this point so a slightly higher increment every 3 or 4 days seems warranted until you can get him out of the 300s and 400s.

totally respect the fact that you're not getting the IGF-1/IAA tests just yet, but thought i'd put my two bits in regarding increasing with a slightly higher increment.

Re: 11/27 Charlie amps:410, 5u

just popped on this morning and saw mention of syringes here. are you still using u40's? if you are and you want more, just say so 'cause i think i've got a couple hundred here taking up space in my closet and i'll send them to you if you want them.

fwiw, u40's are substantially more costly than u100's, thus one of the reasons so many switch to u100's and use a conversion chart. if i remember correctly u40's are near $30-$40 at the vet and i just got a box of u100's at walmart a few weeks ago for $12.58+tax

let me know if you want the u40's and i'll get them out to you right away

Re: 11/27 Charlie amps:410, 5u

Claudia,
I think you probably will do well to grab a months supply of u40's if they are being donated. IMO 1/2 unit increases will be fine from here on. So many of us stopped using them, folks are anxious to give them away. I got several hundred donated to me... now collecting dust. You can have them. I paid the shipping. Cindy- didn't I get them from you? You must have stockpile!

However, don't take too many if you think your vet will agree to lev at some point. You saw the $$ calculations on my HD post. After 5u BID, Prozinc is not your most economical choice...

If you change insulin, to lev, you will be using u100's.

U100 RElion syringes with half unit marks can be had at Walmart for under $15 for a box of 100.

Vet, CVS, even Costco will charge over $30 for the BD syringes.

Pmps:449, 5u

Chriscleo, thank you for stopping by, and for the dosing advice. I think for now I'll switch back to u-40 syringes to make .5u increases easier

Cindy and Nancy- thank you for the offer of the syringes. I recall that blue sent me a pm saying she had some leftover, so since she's local I'll check with her first...but I may end up taking one of you up on your offer if she doesn't have them anymore.
