The ER doc wants Kibby watched another day, so I picked him up from there and dropped him at our vet for the day. He will hopefully be able to come tonight, but will continue with daily vet visits until we are sure he is producing enough RBC's. Hehasn't had a fever for a couple of days now, Oh great, here I am thinking everything's going well...My vet just called and Kibby's temp is back up to 104.7! He's been on Zeniquin all last week, switched to Doxycycline on Friday, and they added Baytril and Ampicilin over the weekend at the ER. Apparently none of these are working. Dr just talked with internal meds specialist, who says there has to be another infection going on somewhere, aside from the Mycoplasma. My concern is he's been on all these AB's already...why aren't they working? Dr will try to get the u/s done today, but says if we don't get answers from that, he will need to refer Kibby to UC Davis. So basically, we are right back where we were last week, even tho we do have one dx. He's dehydrated also, and we have to be very careful with fluids now, so I'm worried about how we're going to get his temp down.

After spending yesterday afternoon and all night sleeping, I am feeling somewhat better, tho far from 100%. I planned on spending today in bed as well, but now I'm very worried about Kibby again.

Re: 11/26 Kibby transfered to my vet - temp 104.7 again!

Aww poor Kibby! He's really having a rough time of it. Sending vines and hugs - hope he can kick that fever today and come home to be with his sweet Mamabean. Glad you got some rest.

Re: 11/26 Kibby transfered to my vet - temp 104.7 again!

Anne

I hope he starts to get better and they can find what is causing that temp. One way they can get it down instead of giving him fluids is to put cold compresses on his paw pads and also wrap him in a cold towel.

Sending more prayers and healing vines and we hope you are feeling better.

Re: 11/26 Kibby transfered to my vet - temp 104.7 again!

Sometimes, it can take a while for the ABs to kick in. Have they run any blood cultures to see if they can figure out what kind of bug this is?

Re: 11/26 Kibby transfered to my vet - temp 104.7 again!

Anne, so sorry to hear this news. Sending healing vines and prayers for you and Kibby. I hope the u/s will provide some answers.

Re: 11/26 Kibby transfered to my vet - temp 104.7 again!

Our vet's u/s guy can't come today, so Dr called UC Davis and they have 2 slots open. However, he just found some swelling on the right side of Kibby's back. Last week when Kibby was having such pain, he was terribly sensitive on his back. Doc thinks he has an abscess, but Kibby wouldn't let him shave him and check it out. So he has given him (I forget what he said) and is waiting for it to kick in so he can shave, examine, and aspirate it. So he is now assuming this is the source of infection, so said if this pans out, we won't need an ultrasound. I, however, am insisting on one either way. So he will schedule the u/s for tomorrow morning, and I'm waiting for a call on what he finds out with this abscess.

Re: 11/26 Kibby temp 104.7 again! Found abscess

Just heard from the vet again. He found a huge abscess in the right lumbar area. He was able to shave it and found a long scratch, but no broken skin or open wounds. He thinks the abscess is pretty deep, too. He is not going to drain it today, for 2 reasons. One, Kibby ate well this morning, so he doesn't want to anesthetize him for surgery. He was able to schedule an ultrasound for tomorrow morning, so he's hoping to be able to look at the abscess further with u/s to see how deep it is. Then after the u/s, he will operate on the abscess. So Kibby will most likely get to come home overnight, and then go back first thing in the morning.

Wow...hopefully THIS is it...the answer and the solution. Many prayers continuing for you and sweet Kibby!!!!

Re: 11/26 Kibby temp 104.7 again! Found abscess

Oh, I'm glad they finally found it. i hope it can be quickly dealt with and he is feeling better soon.. Sending lots more healing vines and soothing snowflakes!

I'm glad you were able to get some rest. How are you holding up?

Re: 11/26 Kibby temp 104.7 again! Found abscess

Good investigative work on the part of you and your vet! Ultrasound is pretty common to assess an abscess. There's a good chance Kibby is going to be on some pretty heavy duty antibiotics once this gets cleaned out. You may want to lay in a supply of FortiFlora so you have a chance with dealing with any poo problems that may come up.

Re: 11/26 Kibby temp 104.7 again! Found abscess

I hope the u/s gives your vet the answers he needs. Sending prayers to you and Kibby.

Good news for Kibby. Sending more healing vines for the surgery and his recovery. Also, hoping you start feeling 100% soon!

Kibby's home for the night!! He does have a large abscess that does look like it's pretty deep and he's pretty sensitive about it. He got out of his carrier and immediately tried to jump onto the desk to eat. He didn't make the jump. nailbite_smile I made him a nice bowl of food with water added and gave it to him on the floor in the bathroom. He didn't eat much of it, but I'll continue to offer it (and maybe some baby food) until 9, when he has to go NPO for surgery tomorrow. Doc did say leave water out, as he is still somewhat dehydrated. His temp is down some, but is still 103.6, and he got another dexamethasone injection just before I picked him up, so hopefully he won't go higher over night. I put a fresh towel in the carrier so I don't have to mess with it tomorrow, and he got right into the bathroom cupboard to hide! I tried to tell him he's not going (yet) but I don't think he's convinced. :? Radiologist review of his final xray last night mentioned constipation, so we're hoping that once the pain of the abscess is taken care of, that will stop being a problem as well. We'll get further info on that with the u/s, too.

Thank you for reminding me about the Fortiflora, Sienne - I do have plenty on hand.

His pcv is up to 28%, but his weight is down to 10.5 lbs. That's 1.5-2 lbs below his usual weight, so I hope after tomorrow his appy picks up. I asked how long it should take for his pcv to get back to normal, because this staying steady deal has me a little concerned. It's good that it's not dropping, but I'd like to see it coming up a little faster. Dr said that because he's been fighting 2 separate infection, his bone marrow is probably exhausted, but he hopes that in a week to 10 days he'll be back to normal. During that time, he'll be making daily visits to the vet to have those levels checked.

So it's looking like there's finally a light at the end of this tunnel, and I'm feeling wonderful about that. I did tell Kibby that he may be spending the winter inside this year, as he'll be quite naked by the time all this is over!

Thanks again to everyone for all your support, it has really meant a lot, and really helped me.

Fabulous news that Kibby is home tonight! Paws crossed for a successful U/S and dealing with the abscess tomorrow. Sounds like they'll probably be putting in a drain tube if it's that deep. Poor little guy, give him extra scritches from us. Sending lots of white light so the both of you can get on the highway to a speedy recovery.

Wow....I agree on the great work there that found it. We will all be saying extra prayers for Kibbys surgery tomorrow and that after they address the abscess, he will feel much better.

Just getting caught up on Kibby. Lots of healing vines heading his way tonight. Good th,oughts for the procedure tomorrow.

Hugs, many hugs,

Ella & Rusty

My goodness! Poor Kibby has sure been through the wringer. I hope everything goes well with the surgery and he starts feeling better right away.
