Hi all!

As I mentioned in my previous post, Brandon had to take Corduroy to the vet last Saturday because he was acting strange...laying down and trying to poop, trying to poop right beside his food dish, etc. They did x-rays and checked him out, but said they couldn't find anything. They gave him something for nausea at the office and they gave us some medication to kill the possible bad bacteria in his stomach.

He's been acting normal since then, but as of this morning, he's doing the very same thing...he's trying to poop anywhere and everywhere, to no avail. Even laying down on his side grunting, beside his food dish. He just puked too. He keeps trying to go in the litterbox, but can't. I have no idea what is wrong. Has anyone had anything like this happen?

Any chance he's constipated? I would call the vet and let them know. You don't want to use anything like Miralax until you speak with the vet since if there's a problem, some remedies can make things worse. You could always add some oil (any vegetable oil, butter) to Corduroy's food. That won't hurt anything and if constipation is an issue, it will grease the wheels, so to speak.

Vomiting, if Corduroy was straining at the litter box, isn't unusual.

How is Corduroy doing? My Frankie does that sort of thing when she's a bit constipated - both the trying to poop everywhere, and the throwing up. I hope Cords is feeling better tonight.

Hi everyone,

Well, yesterday, I made an appointment to see our vet at 2:30, but in the meantime between making it and actually going, Corduroy pooped some pretty big pieces. I mean, they looked like they may have been the culprit of the constipation, that's how big they were...compared to what he usually does. So, I cancelled the appt., hoping that this was all it was. I'm hoping that this is why his blood sugar was so high too. He seems to be acting fine again. The vet said that I should give him something like Laxatone on a regular basis, like every three days, to keep this from happening again.

Rhiannon, his back legs are kind of weak, but I give him zobaline everyday. I have seen much improvement in them from when we started. He's actually walking on his toes again!

I don't know about Laxatone. If you opt to use it, get ONLY the "original" flavor and read the ingredients carefully. Most of the other flavors contain corn syrup and/or malt syrup or molasses. Not good ingredients for a diabetic kitty!

Laxatone is basically petroleum jelly (i.e., Vasoline). If Corduroy will eat the vasoline, that's a better choice. As I mentioned earlier, a little bit of oil will work. If Corduroy doesn't have a fish allergy and likes fish, you may want to add omega-3 oil to his food. This will help in much the same way as Laxatone. Nordic Naturals makes an omega-3 that's formulated for small animals and is good quality. I've found it on Amazon.
