If you're in the NE US, hopefully the storm isn't causing you too many headaches on this Thanksgiving eve. Right now I'm looking at about 4 inches of heavy wet slop. It's what you get when you have wet snow landing on wet ground.
tiffmaxee I did see your question in my last condo. I have not tried using gelcaps. Fortunately, he hasn't needed to take much in terms of medication before. He had a ear mites as a kitten and the vet gave me a liquid and once or twice I had to attempt to pill him for something or other over the last decade. Believe it or not, the insulin shots are the easiest thing I've ever had to give him :smile: That may end up being an option.
Dorneyville Pharmacy compounds a lot of medication for vets. They are sending my vet some sample of cat treats they can attempt to compound the medication into in order to see if he will eat any of them. I will check the ingredients to make sure there are no sweeteners including maltodextrin in them. If he will eat it as a cat treat, I think that may be the easiest option. (As a side note, if anyone is looking for a place that will sell just one Lantus Solostar pen, they will sell just one pen and they do ship.) It took a bit of explaining on what I was doing because they flagged the vet wanted .5u for the dose and the pens only do 1u increments.
The insulin just arrived about 30 minutes ago, so Clyde got his first .5u dose this evening, about 15 minutes off what will be his regular schedule. He lasted almost a year OTJ. Hopefully, I caught it soon enough that I can get him back into remission. I am planning on checking his BG tonight at least +2, +4, & +6 tonight so I can start to get a feeling on what is going on. Tomorrow, I will not be able to check it as frequently as I would like but will still get a couple of tests in during the day.
