Dr called at 6am with radiologist report in hand. "Fairly certain" it's CHF. So they were going to wait until 8am to call the cardiologist to come do an echo. Hopefully they will be able to tell exactly what the cause is. In the meantime, she will be aggressive with the lasix treatment. I went down at 130am to visit him, after speaking the dr, and he looked worse than when I left him at 10pm. But he did not look like he was on death's door, either. When I left him last night, I didn't know all this was going on. During our last couple of car trips, Kibby was unusually chatty and rubbing on the carrier doors. I knew he was trying to tell me something, but I didn't know what it was. After finding out all this new information, I wanted Kibby to know I understood now, that I was finally hearing what he'd been trying to tell me. So my friend came and picked me up and took me down there. The dr had reported to us a respiratory rate of 80 on the phone, and he had not responded to the first lasix tx. When we were visiting, it was more like 100-120. He did get up and walk around, came to the door and was very affectionate. He even spoke to my friend and asked her to pet him. He even groomed himself a little bit. We stayed maybe a half an hour, but I could tell we were making his breathing worse, as he was excited to see us, and we had the door open to the oxygen tent to pet him, so we were stealing his precious air.

The good news is the anemia is improving. That was up to 25%, so at this point we can focus on getting the fluid out of his lungs without the complication of a possible blood transfusion. It's time for me to call and find out what's going on with the cardiologist, and I will probably head down there after that, so I will update as I can. If it takes a while to hear back from me, assume it's just because I'm with Kibby, and not that something horrible has happened.

Re: 11/25 Kibby has CHF

Come on sweet Kibby - you and MamaBean can handle CHF.

Scruffy and I are still plodding along 10 months after CHF dx. Kibs, you're a bit of a lucky kitty, at least your fluid is in your lungs, the lasix should help get rid of that much easier than ours which gathers in his abdomen. Scruffy takes 2.5mg enalapril daily as well as 10mg lasix once or twice a day as needed. Pill pockets are WONDERFUL!

BIG HUG, yep they do look worse before they get better, lots of prayers from here,

Re: 11/25 Kibby has CHF

Anne:

It's quite possible that with the fluids Kibby was given that he's experiencing fluid (or volume) overload. (The technical term is hypervolemia.) There's a chain effect of the fluid preventing the heart from not contracting the way it needs to so the fluid keeps building up to the point where it "backs up" into the lungs causing congestive heart failure. There are many people who live a long time on the proper medications with CHF. A lot will depend on the cardiologist's report and whether there is any heart damage or if this is an incident of where the fluids complicated what may or may not have been an underlying condition. It's good to hear the anemia is improving. Oxygen binds to red blood cells so if anemic, breathing becomes more difficult. With the anemia improving, Kibby's breathing should be less labored.

I'm still sending tons of vines for Kibby's continuing improvement.

Re: 11/25 Kibby has CHF

Anne. I am sorry to hear Kibby has been struggling. Hopefully with the dx things will begin to improve. I have had no experience with CHF but just wanted to wish you well and let you know we are praying for Kibby.

Hang in there. Karen

I just received the best news ever! Kibby DOES NOT HAVE CHF!! I was only able to spend about 2 mins with Kibby before the cardiologist arrived and they were ready for him. He did wolf down the PureBites chicken I brought him during that time, tho. Cardiologist did the echo and said that while Kibby's heart may have been enlarged when they did the xray yesterday, it is now of perfectly normal size and shape and construction and everything else! His heart just couldn't adjust fast enough to deal with all the extra fluids and the pred, and so the fluid backed up into the lungs, like Sienne was saying. Kibby's heart and lungs are just fine, he will NOT need to be on medication for either of them, and he does not need to see the cardiologist again. I'm dancing in the streets! They will repeat his chest xray in a couple hours to make sure the fluid is gone, and then he can come out of the oxygen tent and be done with the lasix. And we will be back to just dealing with the anemia and the mycoplasma. Further good news is cardiologist said if he does get to the point where he needs a blood transfusion, he can handle one, and same thing with fluids. They hadn't rechecked the pacv yet, as they have 2 critical cases and just the one doc. So I was unable to speak to his dr. I just went and said goodbye to Kibby, that I'd be back tonight, and doc will call me when she can. Until then, I'm eating lunch, taking my meds and going to bed, with a huge weight off my shoulders! LL Miracles strike again!

Now that is just the best news to hear!!!! So happy for you and Kibby and you deserve to be dancing in the street. May he just keep healing and come home to you soon!!!

Great news! Kibby can handle this!

Thank you all so much for visiting and celebrating with us and supporting us. I just spoke with Kibby's nurse (still have not been able to speak to his Dr.) But she said Kibby is looking much better. He is out of the oxygen tent, and his breathing is looking good. They rechecked his pcv at 4, and he's holding steady at 26%. They will do the chest xrays at 9pm, so told me to call back at 10 and I could speak to the dr. She said Kibby looks pretty comfortable, he's laying on his side, and rolling over on his back and showing them his belly! They all comment on what a beautiful boy he his, and how sweet he is. Everyone loves him, of course. She even said something about him maybe coming home tomorrow, but I'm not going to get my hopes on that until I hear it from the Dr.

I came home this afternoon to my family cleaning the entire house. Between me being sick and Kibby being sick, I just haven't been able to do anything around the house. They finished up cleaning the house, and then they all left, so I was able to go to bed, cuddle, snuggle and nap with Muffin all afternoon. I felt like I was feeling better, so got up to serve dinner to the furkids, and immediately I feel horrible again. So, as much as I hate to do it, I've made the executive decision to skip visiting Kibby tonight, so I can stay home and take care of myself, so I can continue to take care of Kibby tomorrow. The nurse agreed to give Kibby scritches and loves from me, and to tell him Mommy lubs him. I'm crawling back in bed.

What a sweet family! Now get back into bed and get some rest! Kibby will need you in working order tomorrow!!!! :-D Glad to hear all this good news! Rest well and feel better!!!!

YAYAYAYAY!!!! no CHF! I am so glad that things are better for Kibby. We are all dancing in the streets.

And I hope you feel better soon. Take care! Your family is wonderful. How great to be able to come home and find they have cleaned everything. Wonderful people. :-D

I'm so glad for the good report on Kibby. May you get a really good night's sleep, and may Kibby be home feeling much better tomorrow.

Congrats!! That's great news!
We need more of these good news on LL! Thankyou so much to spread it, Ann!
