? 11/25 Kai ?Constipation? AMPS 365, +7 154, PMPS 99

Yesterday I noticed Kai’s poop was small and hard. Today I saw that he’s having some difficulty going, so I think it’s safe to say he’s constipated. I’ve never dealt with a constipation episode before, so any advice or tips are appreciated.

I’ve been reading about Miralax. This morning I gave him 1/8 teaspoon, and I gave him another dose with his dinner this evening. I also plan to give him his sub-Q fluids tonight. I skipped last night because we had a pretty stressful day at the vet getting the mass on his side checked again (it’s a long story). I should have mentioned his unusual stool to the vet, but I was so focused on the mass.

Is there anything else I should be doing besides the Miralax and the fluids?

I've heard pumpkin helps. If you get the pie filling with nothing added to it? Mix a good tap into food to help.
Is he on Pred? That can happen

Unfortunately, I can’t use pumpkin because of his CKD; I read that it can cause bloating. He’s also not on any medications like prednisone. I’m thinking he might be dehydrated and stressed, and those are the two main culprits. This really started when I began dog-sitting this past weekend. We haven’t had a dog in the house for a while, and I think having an unexpected visitor—on top of a stressful vet appointment and some dehydration—might have triggered this. I just hope nothing else is going on especially right here near a holiday.

I just looked it up, and aside from what we talked about, i
I also saw this....
Encourage exercise:
Increased activity stimulates the digestive tract. Encourage your cat to play with toys to help get things moving.

Any chance of that?😁
Also what you said is listed as causes. Stress. Hopefully the mix is what caused this.
I looked further and it said if a stressful thing did cause this, after 48hrs you should consult the vet

Have you tried psyllium husk fiber with Kai? It's another prebiotic (besides pumpkin) that can help. Start with just a pinch in his meals. It's another thing you start low and work your way up.

Miralax will help, might take a day or two. Make sure he has plenty of fluids with it and psyllium husk.

Nice PMPS. :)

I was able to get him moving this evening with some light play time :cat: maybe that will help❤️

I completely forgot about the psyllium husk. I actually already have some on hand from when I bought it earlier this year, back when I started adding supplements to Kai’s diet. I was worried the new additions might upset his stomach, so I picked some up just in case. I just finished giving him his fluids, so I’m going to add a pinch of it to his +3 snack. I really hope I wake up to a giant, healthy, sinky poo in the morning. 💩💩💩 never thought i would say that

Thank you everyone! ❤️❤️❤️
