I'm so glad Frank is feeling better ~ it's such a reassurance when we see our kitties doing well :-D
Enjoy your day!

Brian is calling the vet today to see if we an get them to give us an antibiotic to hold him over until his next appointment. He is happily napping on his pillow, right now.

So, called the vet. He agrees that it is probably his teeth causing the spike. They will have Clavamox ready to pick up this afternoon. They are also going to call the pharmacy and have Franks prescription switched over to the Solostar pens. I was able to print out a savings card for him from the site so I am halfway tempted to go ahead and fill it so it is here just in case something happens to his vial. We will see how the pharmacy handles it, though. His prescription says Frank The Cat on it. I don't know if that is going to cause issues or not... Anyway... His BG is still high today but lower than yesterday. He actually left food on his plate at his second feeding and went back and finished it off later. That is a change. He usually gorges on it. Hopefully this is a sign that he is learning to enjoy his meals and his metabolism is getting back to normal. We are back up to 8.2 pounds although he still looks really skinny except in the belly area. Perhaps he needs to build some muscle? I don't even know where to begin with that.

Question: How do others feel about deli lunch meat as treats?

In addition to the above ^^ - I guess I should ask how to handle the addition of antibiotics with his dosing. If an infection is driving the numbers up, should I go back to 1u until I see how his body is going to handle the insulin as the clavamox kills off some of that infection?

If you are getting Clavamox, make sure you get pills. The liquids usually have syrup in them. As for dose, I've seen people keep the same dose but be vigilant that you might have to drop it. It could take a couple days for the AB to kick in. And if the AB has sugar, you are back where you started.

Deli lunch meats are tricky - sometimes they have honey or sugar in them. Poultry can be brined (sugar, salt, water) and of course honey ham is is just that. If you know the butcher well enough, they might be able to tell you how it was prepared. Some people just get regular chicken breast and boil it in plain water until cooked, then feed cubes of that. As a bonus, you end up with a nice chicken broth.

BTW: Neko is listed under me at the pharmacy, same last name, but like a dependent. But the original prescription was written out with the same last name as me. But the pharmacy I deal with is well versed in feline diabetics.

Thank you for the information. Unfortunately, we already got the liquid. I've been meaning to cook him some chicken, but just have not gotten around to it. We cooked him some and blended it and that is in the freezer. I don't know how long that lasts though. It has been in there a month now, lol. I have just been too busy to throw it out and clean the container. So... I left it in there where it wasn't bothering anything.
