Yet Another Hijacked Condo

I'm sorry to be so late with this - I know many of you are waiting to hear from me. This has been a long, difficult day and this is the first chance I have had to get online. I really should be washing dishes and getting dinner ready, but wanted to get this posted first.

Cinco surfed yellow all day, once again being very considerate. He didn't have to be that thoughtful - DH was home to watch him. I believe we will go up to 1.0 tomorrow. I'm hoping it's just old insulin and a new script next week will help, but for now I think we need a little more jus. He is otherwise doing well (thank God).

Harvey was at about 50% of normal this morning - he ate a little chicken and broth before the food cutoff time of 8 am. Minka drank a little broth. Harvey was a little harder to catch today, but still not up to full strength. He did his best to complain on the way, but not nearly as annoying as usual. I told him it was perfectly okay if he was this way on all future car trips. Minka was her usual self - just the occasional pathetic Meow of disapproval.

I got them to the vet 10 minutes before the appointed time (causing the staff to double check their watches - I am always late). They told me it would be several hours, so I was off - ran several errands, grabbed some lunch and tried to keep my mind off what was happening. As I was eating my sandwich, Dr. C. called. She asked if I wanted the bad news or the better news first. I went with the better news. She said Harvey's US showed thickening of the bowel - the US Vet said it could be IBD or it could be small cell lymphoma. He said there was also mild mesenteric lymph node enlargement. He said a bowel biopsy would be needed to rule out the lymphoma. He said there was evidence of mild chronic renal disease (which we already suspected). No UTI. Dr. C. said I should make an appointment at UCD, either in Oncology or Internal Medicine, for the biopsy, and they would take it from there if it was indeed lymphoma. She said she would give me Metronidazole, which would hopefully help him feel better and get him eating.

Then she gave me the bad news on Minka: The US doctor said that it is most likely renal lymphoma. He said inflammatory renal disease/severe nephritis is also a possibility, but much less likely. He recommended an FNA aspiration cytology of the left kidney to confirm. Dr. Codde said I should get Minka to UCD's Oncology department as soon as possible. She said if Minka has not started eating by Friday, to take her to the UCD emergency room and they would bring in the on call Oncologist. She told me to start her on Mirtz. I called UCD and the soonest they could see her was December 8th. When I picked them up, one of the other doctors came in and saw me, and gave me a sad look. That did it. I had all the staff crying with me. They are really good people and I've been taking cats there for 24 years. On the drive home I had to pass UCD, so I went in and talked to one of the girls at the Oncology reception desk. When I explained the situation, she went and talked to the coordinator. He keeps a couple of appointments open for emergencies. The first one they have is Monday December 1st. We decided I should book it, and if Minka gets worse before then, I'll take her to emergency (the receptionist told me exactly what Dr. C had about that). I went to the Small Animal Clinic and got Harvey an appointment for Friday, December 5th.

I gave Harvey his Metronidazole and Minka her Mirtz as soon as I got home. I offered both some chicken in broth. Minka drank a little broth. Harvey ate a few bites of chicken. I left both their plates near them. About an hour later it was time for dinner. Harvey had polished off his chicken and broth. He ate about half of his dinner! :-D He's gone back and nibbled at the rest. When I went in to Mark's office, where Minka was, she meowed at me and came to meet me. The plate where the chicken and broth had been was clean!!! I put the plate with tonight's entree in front of her and she dove in and polished it off in record time! dancing_cat dancing_cat dancing_cat I guess Mirtz works a lot better on her than on Sasha! I sat there and cried - the relief was so great. I gave her another small spoonful, and she would have eaten more, but I was afraid that she would get sick after eating so little for so long, so I'll take her more after an hour or two.

Sasha, by the way, ate a normal, pre-chemo breakfast, with a little help from some kitty crack. She spent the entire day IN my bed (under the covers). She also ate a normal, pre-chemo sized meal at dinner, again with the help of kitty crack. The knot in my chest is just a little looser right now.

So that is our status. As long as I can keep them eating, I'll hold it together somehow and wait to see what they say at UCD. I appreciate all the support so far and ask for your continued vines and prayers. I hope you will understand if I don't do a lot of visiting right now. I have neglected so many important things around the house the past few days, I HAVE to get some things done. Tonight, though, it will just be dishes, dinner, and adult beverages (and feeding the cats some more, hopefully). Some major kitty cuddling is also on the agenda.

Sending healing vines to all in need and hugs to all their beans. :YMHUG: Prayers continue for Amy's DF, Lyresa's DF, Lisa's DF and Elise's DM.

Re: 11/25 Cinco PMPS 249 Civvie Ultrasound Results

I'm so sorry Tricia. I'm also hoping for the best. If they do gave lymphoma it can be treated and get into remission and I have seen some beat it. Honest. I got Tiffany started on treatment by way of the ER but I'm glad that you were able to make appointments for next week. Prayers have been coming all day and will continue nonstop.

Sending lots of healing vines and energy to you all. What a caring Mom and friend you are!

Are your kitties outdoors or hunters at all? When Clare's US came back with thickening of the bowel, they said it was consistent with parasites and gave her a dewormer. Just passing that along, in hopes that it might be something more simple.

LOTS of hugs and support, Tricia!

Thanks, Elise, Ruth, Mariko, Wendy, Rachel, Chris, Marilyn and Georgette.

I do know lymphoma can go into remission, since that's where Cinco is now. My more immediate concern was hepatic lipidosis due to not eating. Hence my relief when the Mirtz did its thing.

Georgette, all my cats are indoor only. The only thing they hunt is the most comfortable spot to sleep.

I really appreciate all the vines, prayers and good thoughts. Please keep them coming.

Minka is living up to the Mirtz nickname of Meowazine! Oy, vey she's bouncing around ! But she is eating! :-D And Harvey just climbed into my lap. :-D :-D :-D

Tricia :YMHUG: :YMHUG: :YMHUG: ...I wish I could say and do so much more, but I am sorry you are going through this, and tons of prayers are coming your way. I'm glad you were able to get Minka in sooner than Dec 5th, and I am very relieved that they mirtz did the trick for them. It sounds like they are both feeling better now that they have some food in their bellies. Keep eating, kitties...MamaBean and DaddyBean are taking excellent care of you!!

More prayers and hugs...and yes, don't worry about visiting! Take care of yourself and your babies...

Re: 11/25 Cinco PMPS 249 +2 205 +4 178 Civvie Ultrasound Res

{{{{{Tricia}}}}}

I had the same thing with Skooter when he was dx'd with IBD. The vets were pretty convinced it was Lymphoma, but they did the biopsies (took samples from 10 different places) and came back clean. So as bad as it sounds, I shall pray for an IBD dx.

You are such a wonderful kitty momma and they are all so lucky to have you.

I am sending lots n lots n lots n lots of healing vines to all your furbabies

XOXO

No worries about visiting condos! There have been a number of kitties here with lymphoma that have a good quality of life. Even better, you have a top notch vet school nearby so you have access to state of the art treatment. You are all in my thoughts.

Sorry you are hearing lymphoma too. That's what I'm dealing with as well.
