Thank you all for yesterday (again! I cannot say thank you enough).

Ophie is doing well this morning, her appy is back and she hasn't thrown up since last night. I opted to sleep in and skip Ophie's +11 this morning and just get her PS #. Looks like she is bouncing. I gave her 1.25. We will see how she does with that.

Happy Sunday to all! Sending healing vines to all your kittykats.

Re: 11/24 Ophie AMPS 251

Good Morning Joely ~O) ~O)
Good call on the skip at +11 this morning and giving Ophie a break. I think it was obvious enough that she would be climbing, plus she does that non helpful drop at PS anyhow  But as you know it is good info for trending in the future ;-) I was so happy to see she feels better too. With all the info last night and past days I could not remember if it was ever mentioned that often when kitties are used to being in the higher diabetic numbers, after a while those levels become their 'normal'. That's where they will look like they feel their best. When their numbers then start coming down (especially if quickly) their bodies panic and think they are too low. This makes them feel rougher than when high. This situation does correct itself as they get better and better regulated into the lower numbers and they will start to then look like that is when they feel their best. In my current situation, Twice now looks like he feels the best in low yellows and the blues. It used to be pinks were his color
I'm home for a while yet today so will check in on you and Ophie :-D Have a wonderful Saturday.

Re: 11/24 Ophie AMPS 251

That's not a bad start to the day for Ophie after all that happened yesterday. I'm glad she's feeling better and you got to sleep in some. I hope Ophie will slide down slowly today and you both have a good day.

Re: 11/24 Ophie AMPS 251

Interesting info, there Kim. Makes sense. These are big changes in her little body and it will take time for her to learn what's right. I learn a little bit more each day! With the help and patients of you and other here.

Thanks for checking in on me and Ophelia, Carla and Libby :-D So far so good! Finger crossed for a slow decline into happier (but not scary!) numbers for.

Wishing you all a happy Sunday!!

Re: 11/24 Ophie AMPS 251

Thank you, Josie! Ophie and I are chillin' today and happy for a drama free day ;-)

Re: 11/24 Ophie AMPS 251

you need a drama-free day here and there!

i was thinking about your comments yesterday and the day before about her not wanting to be poked. are you using the neosporin with pain relief ointment on her ears? that can make a huge difference. i used to put it on punkin's ears every night and they seemed to recover by morning. if he was having a hard time with a lot of pokeys, i'd put it on and then just wipe off the excess when it was time for the next test.

Re: 11/24 Ophie AMPS 251

Great suggestion, Julie!! Thank you! I do have Neosporin with pain relief, and until last night I hadn't been using it at all. I put some on last night and again this morning, she seems better. I had not been using it because it made it difficult to get her blood (initially), but now that she bleeds, that shouldn't be a problem, so I have it in my case now and will put it on her tender teeny ears often. Also, it was the sheer number of pokes she got yesterday that made it so hard... it is still new for her and I was a mad woman with the all the pokes . Also, I can only get one ear to bleed, so when I try to get the other one, well, she doesn't like that. Anyway, always trying and learning... always! Thanks for checking in on us

Re: 11/24 Ophie AMPS 251

we used one ear to learn on, then went to the other and stayed with it for the next 2+ years. i used the neosporin every night - we put quite a bit on (if you look at the directions on the tube it sounds like you can be generous, and we were), then wiped it off every morning. didn't use vaseline once i started putting it on every night. especially with those 20+ poke days, it seemed like it would heal punkin's ears overnight.

i hope it helps Ophie!

Re: 11/24 Ophie AMPS 251

Strange observation with Twice. He will only allow his right ear to be poked from the front and the left MUST be poked from the back. I have tried doing the opposite especially when he is squirrelly hungry before ps, but nope! Right front, left back

Re: 11/24 Ophie PMPS 134

  Kim, Twice is hysterical! These kitties!! Well, they like what they like, and there is just no room for debate

Julie, I am putting it on THICK now. Hoping for the "pain relief" part most of all. I got blood from her other ear for her PS #, so that was good. If I can get them both to bleed, that would be ideal. But, I will wait to see what Ophie thinks about it all :-D. I have a giant tube of lidocaine (for my son), I wonder if I can use that on kitty? I will have to ask the vet.

So, the update on Ophie: She slept most of the day and didn't participate in many family activities. That is just fine... she needed to recover from yesterday! I needed to take a nap today as well, I was feeling so drained. My hubby was somewhat "grumpy" about it all, but pulled it out in the end with a massive show of support :-D. You all don't know this, but I normally go to bed at 8/8:30. So all these late nights and early AMs with Ophie has been killing me. But, it's a small price for her safety.

I opted to go with 1 unit for her dose tonight. I'm most comfortable giving her a .5 reduction. I did give her 1.25 this morning, just to help her as she was clearly dealing with a bounce. Her bounce wasn't all that bad, and she moved back to some blues today. True to form, my little Ophie decided to drop as she got to shot time, just to complicate my feelings and decisions on what to do about her dose .

Though, seriously, I think 1 unit is the right thing for us. I feel good about it. We will see how her night goes, of course!

In other news, hubby is gearing up for the big Pats game tonight , so Ophie and I will have lots of time to cuddle and check her BGs--as we pretend to be the fanatic Boston fans we're supposed to be--to see how her dose feels for her tonight.

Hope all the kitties of LL and beyond are feeling well tonight and giving all their mommas and papas good numbers!

Re: 11/24 Ophie PMPS 134

I think that going with 1U is perfectly fine. Give it a go and decide from there ;-) I think that Ophie is a super sensitive little girl and you know her best. I had a super sensitive little girl until just over 2 years ago. I knew her best and loved her to the ends of the world. My point is, not all cats are roll with it, cool as a cucumber kinda cats. Some genuinely are princess kitties. Ophie and my Daril fit this bill. People that have and love these kinds of kitties, they know exactly how to treat them. Trust in yourself because I trust you! I really do get it. Everyone will continue to advise and you will know exactly how to proceed once weighing through the options :-D

I'm slightly scarred that you're not a HUGE NFL fan....

Re: 11/24 Ophie PMPS 134

 That's what my husband says about my NFL staus

Seriously, thank you Kim. You always know the right thing to say and that is a gift .

Re: 11/24 Ophie PMPS 134

Good Evening Joely....

I think it's terrific that you are going with the dose that feels right to you .... You know Ophie better than anyone else after all ;-)

Too funny about you pretending to be the good Boston fan that you r suppose to be
Try to enjoy watching the game or @ least your cuddle time with sweet Ophie !

Wow Joely! A little trial by fire but you've handled the last couple of days like a pro....especially with everything on your plate including a Patriot's fan

Ophie is looking great and I hope she's feeling better tonight. Looks like you got a good result from feeding as her +4 is a nice surf.

I'm sorry...i don't remember if I ever posted my post on Testing and Shooting Tios. Maybe something in there will help you and Ophie. I put the Neosporin ointment on Gracies ears after every single test.
