All is well this Thanksgiving Eve w/Curry.

Her bg's are almost identical to yesterday morning....

Turkey is brining....Curry is preening and Sid is sleeping.....I"m consuming one more cup of coffee and getting my bike ride in as its still a balmy 74 today.

QUESTION: for those of you who have your kitties on a raw diet....what make/model of meat grinder do you use? I have "fond" memories of mom using a meat grinder and remember it constantly getting stuck and plugged up w/the meat. Of course I would be using chicken and dealing w/less connective tissue...just curious....

Have a good day.

I use the thighs...and the powder from Feline Future which includes liver and the vitaimins...so I am able to use a food processor to get the meat into the consistency I want...can't help with the grinder. Are you doing the bones as well?
And are you adding the vitamins on your own?
Great numbers for Curry!! Happy thanksgiving Eve to you Tena!

Ok...food processor....that make sense. No bones. I would go w/Feline Future w/the liver/vitamins already added. Feline Future has that right? Or do I need to add more stuff.

I'm way too lazy to do it myself, I just buy Nature's Variety Organic Chicken. But kuddos to you and whomever else grinds their own kitty food.

Beautiful numbers Curry.

Well I'm lazy too. Just took a peak at their website/product. How much do you feed Tray? Do you supplement w/anything else? And I know the food can't be left out over an hour.....Does Tray gobble it up right away?

morning Tena - did you look over Dr. Lisa's make your own food article? lots of good info. I remember those meat grinders - clamped onto the kitchen counter, big handle to crank.
I know Ann feeds Tess some raw as well, she'll have some gold nuggets of info to pass along.

There are several classic FF varieties that have liver, pick up a can or two today when you go out. If the girls go for it, you can hit petsmart friday morning to buy it by the case. 2 cases $20, hard to beat.

I'll be following your raw food research with interest. I thought it would help my bunch make the transition if I did the pressure cooker thing described on the feline futures website - I thought I could do the raw when I'm home, the pressure-cooked when I'm not so it would be safe to leave out. Either way, I'm not starting til after Christmas. My shopping season will be shortened because of this trip and time is always at a premium over the holidays. so it's going to be the kitties' New Year's Resolution.

I've never brined a turkey. And this year, I'm roasting a chicken, it is only going to be Geoff and I, no sense in leaving town with a frig full of left-overs. Do you put in a cooler or what, while it is brining?

oooooooooooooo a bike ride! how heavenly!! lol
Enjoy it for those of us in the brisk cold eh! lol
Also, i really wish we had that black friday deal on the FF!!! WOWZA!
Good luck with the grinding! I used to feed my malamutes raw, but I didn't have enough freezer room for how much they eat!!! I usually used ground beef though so it was easy for me!

Kim.....Iowren replied to my PM.....she uses Nature's Variety Instinct....pre-packaged frozen raw medallions.....Regarding the brining...I put the 12lb turkey in a 16 gallon stock pot....of course there is no room in the frig for anything else....have to use a neighbor's frig to put the fixings....This was unplanned spontaneous decision....have never brined a turkey before......

Keri.....those dogs must have eaten you out of house and home....

I think I might try the pre-packaged ones first....see what the girls do w/the medallions.....who knows....if they don't like them..they might good hockey pucks...no, not the kitties...the medallions.

Remember "The Lazy Man's Guide to Feline Diabetes"? this needs to be a chapter - pre-packaged frozen raw medallions. I am gonna be on this like a rash. never heard of it before but I am totally trying it (when I get back). brilliant! where would you find that?

by then you will have decided if it's something the girls can adapt to. good luck with it. can't wait to hear.

you're having Thanksgiving at your place? good luck.
