Skunky yesterday

All is good in Z-land, appy is good and not a bad AMPS either. :-D :-D Zener still has a slight skunky odor to him after last night's way-too-close encounter.  It will wear off quickly. He's napping on the second level of Versailles, hoping the heat will come on again soon. It's snowing pretty steadily now but he was brave before and went out to pee. Then RAN back to house!

OT: Tillie is eating well. :-D :-D :-D We like the compounded prednisolone. She takes it pretty readily. And it is clearly helping her feel better and have a good appy. Yay!

Thinking of ailing kitties and beans. Sending healing vines to Jupiter, great news on his chemo treatment. Sending comfort vines to Marje and Mike, and to all the beans with GA kitties. Paws crossed for OTJ trials, Monet, Clyde, Shadow, and Mr. Cat! Happy Caturday, LL!

 I just read about the skunky encounter! The way you described it was priceless! Considering the close-ish call, Zener's AMPS are respectable :-D Don't blame the wee guy for RUNNING into the house
So good Tillie is feeling better and eating well!
Have a great day Liz and Anne

Re: 11/23 Zener AMPS 215

A nice sunny start for Zener. I'm glad his appy is good. I don't blame him for running back in this morning. I hope the skunk smell goes away completely soon.

Great news on Tilie. I'm glad the prednisolone is helping her.

Re: 11/23 Zener AMPS 215

Just had to check in to see how the skunky monkey was doing this morning. Sounds like you did a good job cleaning it off. The one time Neko got skunked she got isolated into part of the house for the night, until I got the right ingredients for taking off the smell. For some reason, that's the one time they don't mind getting a bath.

Good job this morning beating the snow back into the house Zener! Keep on sliding down please.

Re: 11/23 Zener AMPS 215

I hadn't heard about peroxide on skunk. We had a dog that got skunked and even skunk off product didn't remove it totally.
That's a yucky smell.

we are getting snow too.

Oh my! Glad you had everything handy to de-skunk Zener. I hope you have a quieter day today. Do you have a pickup that you can transport Stella in?

The Zener slide at work. Appy not too great after a good start, so some of the drop may be because he hasn't eaten his usual amount of fuds.

The secret solution:
Homemade Skunk Odor Removal Solution
1 tablespoon baking soda
1/4 teaspoon dish soap
1 cup 3% hydrogen peroxide

Put the skunk odor removal solution directly on your pet. Do not add water or get your pet wet before applying the solution. Work this solution into the coat and over the skin. Carefully avoid the eyes. Apply to the head with a cloth. Leave the solution on for 5-20 minutes.
Rinse thoroughly with water.
Wash with a pet shampoo of your choice, working the shampoo well into the skin and hair to lift any oils.
Rinse thoroughly.
Apply pet conditioner.

We did not wash Zener with shampoo or use conditioner (that is recommended because hydrogen peroxide is very drying), since he did not have a direct hit. And we found the recipe online at petmeds.com and it was more for a small dog size. We cut it way down in size for Zener. We only had to do it once and used wash cloths to apply and rinse so he did not get a full on bath, more of a "sponge" bath. Seemed to work a-okay and less traumatizing for our guy.

@Ann & Tess - we don't have a pick up anymore. We may use my jeep - lower the back seat and cover everything in plastic. Our neighbor would have let us use his pickup but he just got a new one a few weeks ago, so we hate to ask.

Happy Caturday all!

Due to the ridiculous number of skunks here, I thank you for the info that I just copied and printed for emergencies ;-)

Oh my, that was rodent TV in 3-D & smellovision!

Seriously, I am so glad poor Zener didn't get a full on spray and a sponge bath did the trick :-D
Great to hear how good Tillie is doing~

Have a great night!

Looks like Zener is enjoying a blue dip today ~ way better than a skunk-dip :? . That solution works pretty well ~ we've had to use it several times on our drooler and twice on Ripley. Ugh. Good times.

I hope you all are enjoying your Caturday :-D
I'm glad Tillie is doing well :thumbup

  BWAHAAHAHAHAHAH!!!!

All okay this evening, appy's are okay, numbers - could be better. I put down a new rug MamaLizBean gave me for a present today - a handmade and very colorful rag rug. Guess who started rolling and rubbing all over it and peeing at the same time?

The trap is baited and set for the cheeky skunk. Patience pants are on.

Re: 11/23 Zener PMPS 262

Hi Liz and Anne

Oh wow, I just read the skunk encounter!!!!
I am so glad they didn't get sprayed directly!!!
Good luck with the trap.

I'm glad Zener's appy is picking up.
It must be a really nice rug that the kitty (which one?) went to claim it right away.
I am really glad the prednisolone is helping Tillie.

Re: 11/23 Zener PMPS 262

Overall a nice report for both kitties....I hear that there is nuthin' like a new rug  ...bummer, but hey, now the christening is over with and you can move forward! I hope you guys are enjoying a relaxing evening with happy appy kitties!!

OH NO! SKUNK?!?! First it's mice (which turn into rats) and now it's skunks?! eeekkkk. You know what you're missing...lizards. Wish I could send all of mine to you guys because you sound like professional "thing" trappers and I hate lizards in my house!

Ok, Zener, I see movement in the correct direction...keep on coming down! Glad to hear Tillie is doing well and Zener's numbers have improved since I last checked in. Hope you all are doing well. Happy Caturday evening!
