After two whole days of mostly blue and green, it was time for a bounce. Papaya was very restless this morning, leaving my room after breakfast, checking out the kitchen, then coming back in but not wanting to settle down on the bed. By about +3 - of course about 15 minutes before my alarm was supposed to go off  she was batting at my arm so I fed her a bit more. Maybe that means she already felt that her blood sugar was dropping, and she'll clear this quickly? I am just about to go get a +4 to see where she's at.

Have a relaxing Saturday, LL! It is -26 C here!! (-14 F for you Americans). Even for "Winterpeg" that's ridiculous for November. It's supposed to be much warmer by tomorrow but I still wouldn't want to be sitting outside in Regina tomorrow for the Grey Cup, brrrrrr!! Papaya and I will be watching from the couch right here where it's warm!

Re: 11/23 Papaya AMPS=590

I hope Papaya clears the bounce soon. That's great she had two days of blue and greens.

Re: 11/23 Papaya AMPS=590

Oh my Papaya :o That is too high kitty, get down from there this instant! Hope she rings in better, much better, for the +4. I too am happy not to be at the game tomorrow! But I'm a Lions fan anyways and still shocked and annoyed we lost that one. Oh well
Question for you: How do you dose the B12? Not sure how much I would give if I am lucky enough to find it at all. None at this pharm.
Have a wonderful indoor kinda day Amy! :-D

Re: 11/23 Papaya AMPS=590

Papaya, no more of this. You come down from there! -14 !!! Well, that is just crazy! You guys stay warm inside.

Re: 11/23 Papaya AMPS=590

Sorry to hear about the bounce. Papaya did get quite a bit of 14% yesterday so that will have an effect. Hope those numbers come down! :-D

Hi Carla! Yes, I think that might be some kind of record in Papayaland!

Hi Kim! I just break the little tablets into quarters with my fingers and mash them into the food. They're the kind that are meant to dissolve in your mouth so they start to kind of dissolve into the food anyway, and Papaya doesn't seem to mind the little chunks. I started out by giving her one tablet with each PS meal, but it didn't seem to be doing a lot and her walking was really bad, so I upped it to 2 tablets per PS meal (4 a day) and it seems to have slowly done its thing. Each tablet is 1000mcg. Sorry about the Lions (but at least they weren't the Bombers  )

Hi Melissa! I will pass that on with a stern finger shaking  She didn't come down much by the +4 but that is actually OK because a slow drop is less likely to start bouncing again.

Jess, I feel like I've had this conversation already. Last time you said I should only be giving my cat zero carb or very low carb and let her liver do the work I posted at length why that is not a good approach for Papaya. Perhaps you did not get a chance to return to that condo and read and understand the information so I have PMd you. Every cat is different. I realize you've only been on here a few months but if you follow Papaya's history back over the past year, you will see that she does better on a bit higher carb (9%) as her regular low carb, and it is the QUICK DROPS that are the enemy, that result in the highs, NOT THE MEDIUM CARB which keeps her safe when she is dropping quickly. When she is really dropping she gets 22% and sometimes that doesn't get her out of the 40s. Knowing her and how she reacts to carbs, if I had given her the 14% even earlier than I did she might still be in blue because she wouldn't have dropped so far into green, like on 11/15 when I gave the 14% at AM+4 even though she was only at 91 - it was already a major drop from the yellow PS and I didn't want it going any lower. Do you see what the PMPS was that day after her getting the 14% so early, in numbers that weren't that low? That's right, only 137. The carbs were just what she needed at that time and kept her from going low, which in turn kept her from going high. I would really like to emphasize that if you see that someone who has been caring for their cat for quite a while does something that you wouldn't expect, it is a great opportunity to learn something by asking questions about why they do that. There is often a very good reason. Thanks for dropping by and offering support.

Re: 11/23 Papaya AMPS=590 +4=423

Morning Amy - that was a couple of fantastic cycles Papaya had there. I swear Neko has a third reason for bouncing - too many good cycles in a row.  Too funny on her being anxious for food this morning. I find it hard to differentiate between the feed me - I'm dropping, feed me - I'm high, and feed me- I'm low. Oh wait, maybe with Neko it's just feed me I'm Neko.

Grey Cup already? Guess I lost interest after the team fell out. Still might watch with a quilt and a cat on top, that sounds like a splendid idea. After all, it's a chilly 5 C here so a bit cool for gardening. Stay warm today!

Re: 11/23 Papaya AMPS=590 +4=423

Oh Wendy, you crack me up  I think Papaya also has that in her bounce handbook, the "too many good cycles" reason. And also the "feed me I'm (Papaya)". At least I don't have to worry about her being too full to eat if her BG is dropping because she is usually quite happy to eat. But I have to say, she only eats official cat food (and mint leaves fished out of my tea). She won't eat any kind of human leftovers, not even tuna or sardines, not pumpkin, and for sure not crackers

A bit cool for gardening? I . . . hate you a little bit right now. Here, it's more like "a little cool for breathing". But it's a very football day tomorrow - Grey Cup, and a Manning-Brady matchup in the NFL (Go Broncos!). So it will be a very good day to be cozy with the cat!

Re: 11/23 Papaya AMPS=590 +4=423 PMPS=410

Yuck, this is taking a while to clear . . . BUT then again I guess with Papaya's track record of bounces coming down slowly might ensure another couple of good days.

I tried to convince her to come out to the kitchen for supper, but she just sat straight up on the bed waiting patiently for the food to arrive. Guess she is just too comfy there today to leave

Re: 11/23 Papaya AMPS=590 +4=423 PMPS=410

Too bad it's so chilly out there...with numbers like that tonight would be the perfect night to go galavanting ;-)

Re: 11/23 Papaya AMPS=590 +4=423 PMPS=410 +4=61

Looks like it's good I didn't go "galavanting"!! 61? Guess we are done with that bounce

Re: 11/23 Papaya AMPS=590 +4=423 PMPS=410 +4=61

WOWZERS! Did NOT see that coming! WTH happened to coming down slowly?! :o :o
I might be up with you tonight. Will see in half an hour, but looks like Twice might decide to go to the deep end of the lagoon tonight.

Re: 11/23 Papaya AMPS=590 +4=423 PMPS=410 +4=61

Yep, talk about a short-lived bounce. C'mon, Papaya, time to surf...and not re-bounce! Have a great evening, Amy!

Re: 11/23 Papaya AMPS=590 +4=423 PMPS=410 +4=61

No kidding - with how she was high all day I was hoping she'd be maybe down to yellow. I swear these cats put a lot of analysis into how next to do the completely unexpected. Probably have their own spreadsheets somewhere and pour over it all day - nope, can't do THAT number next, I've done it before . . .

Re: 11/23 Papaya AMPS=590 +4=423 PMPS=410 +4=61

   I love it, Wendy!

Papaya got some 14% and made herself into a purring sphere which I will be unrolling periodically to test . . . surely she's not trying to be done with this dose already????

Re: 11/23 Papaya AMPS=590 +4=423 PMPS=410 +4=61 +5=50

Still dropping despite the 14%. Gave more and will test in half an hour as she is on some kind of mission here. She spent so much of the past year on around 2.5 units I can't believe she is now dropping like this on 0.75 . . . talk about working the juice!

Re: 11/23 Papaya AMPS=590 +4=423 PMPS=410 +4=61 +5=50

Whoa Whoa Whoa little miss!! Let those carbs catch up!

  @ Wendy

Re: 11/23 Papaya AMPS=590 +4=423 PMPS=410 +4=61 +5=50

:o I'll reverse what I said this morning.
Papaya, no more of this. You come up from there!

Re: 11/23 Papaya AMPS=590 +4=423 PMPS=410 +4=61 +5=50

Hi Amy,
Wow, Papaya!
Yoyo-ing again, are you?
Or she's helping you explain what you wrote to Jess, but Papaya, I don't think your bean needed your backup.

I hope she surfs safely for the rest of the night.

Re: 11/23 Papaya AMPS=590 PMPS=410 +4=61 +5=50 +5.5=81

Wow Amy! What a drop - Papaya had a 4 color slide! Hope she surfs for you now. :-D

Evening Jane! She sure skipped right over the colours in between, crazy cat.

I hadn't given her more food at the +5.5 because the jump to 81 made me wonder if a bounce was starting already. Now an hour later she's drifting down just a tiny bit so it looks like no bounce (yet) and the food is wearing off . . . surfing mid-greens would be a nice change, Papaya! I gave her a bit of her regular (9% carb) food and she ate it at a normal, not dropping-ravenous speed, and left a tiny bit on the plate. She has marched herself off to bed so I think she's done with the diving for this cycle. I'll leave some food by the bed that she can help herself too if she thinks she needs it.

Now everyone, with me . . . DON'T BOUNCE, PAPAYA!!!
