Apparently, Mark wanted to celebrate in style by doing something he has never, ever done before.
My son had just finished eating his pancake breakfast then walked away from the table but didn't take his plate immediately. Mark jumped up on the table and took a lick of the syrup before I could catch him! He jumped off the table, sat, and licked his lips with a very satisfied look on his face.
This stinker doesn't ever jump on the table. The closest he gets to eating people food is when I give him a treat of plain clams when I make chowder. Other than that, he sticks to cat food, plastic, and cardboard.

What a little sneak! Maybe he's not used to having so little glucose floating around in his system and he was trying to self medicate? 
Weirdo. Toki is in the plastic eating weirdo club too.
Jokes aside, it has to be a diabetes thing, Asia has never been interested in human food, even meat, she only likes to eat cat food and ladybugs (yuck). About 2 weeks before she was diagnosed, she was all up on anyone who was eating anything and was interested to eat it (whatever it was), even though she had cat food in the bowl. In hindsight, this was her only "symptom" of diabetes. We didn't think much of it at the time and thought maybe she's going senile or something. Since the diagnosis, we have been hyper vigilant about leaving plates out unguarded, even to get a drink or something because if she can get to it, she might try to eat it. It's not easy for her to jump on things anymore, but when she's determined, she will do whatever she wants to do.

Just curious - did you happen to test him shortly before or after the incident? Wondering if he was running low and was trying to fix it? Of course, being off insulin, nothing to be concerned about if he was. Now the question is, how high will he be at PMPS????

The syrup-licking incident happened about three hours after his AMBG test, after eating some, but not all, of his breakfast. We were home for about 3.5 hours after that and his appetite and behavior (other than the jumping on the table) seemed normal. I did not test him (it was kind of crazy getting ready for lunch with family).
His PMBG tonight was 79 (about 9.5 hours later).

Guess he just had a hankering for something sweet! Doesn't seem to have had a lasting effect on his BG, but now you know to watch your plates!
