Good morning LL! I hope everyone had a fantastic Turkey Day!

Yesterday Kibby ate a good breffis (3oz) and took his AB. He had about a 1oz snack a couple hours later. Around 11am the vet called to meet me at the office. (I took him an apple pie) Kibby's temp was back up to 103.4 and he was dehydrated. So Dr gave him 200ml squids and we came home. Kibby went straight to the bathroom cupboard. About 3pm I brought him his Thanksgiving turkey, but he was not interested. So I pulled him out of the cupboard and put him on my bed. With the help of DS, I did get his temp taken and it was normal - 101.6. He stayed laying on my bed, and I stayed with him. At dinner, he ate only 1/2 can FF, and I gave another dose of AB. Then I realized this morning that he's only suppopsed to get the zeniquin once a day. ohmygod_smile Dr had told me to bring him in and drop him off this morning, so I did that. My dr is not in today, but there's a lady dr there who I've talked with a few times before. And she is in touch with our regular Dr about Kibby. His temp was 104 this morning, so he's back on IV fluids for the day. They did get the BW results this morning. He has Mycoplasma, which is a blood infection like Bartonella, but it's a different parasite, so different AB's. He'll be started on Doxycycline today, which, incidentally, is the same AB I'm on for bronchitis. They are going to rerun the CBC to check the WBC and check for anemia. Those results will be in hopefully this evening, but by tomorrow morning at the latest.

I'm also concerned because while he was on the bed last night, I noticed that his back legs seem to wasting away. His little butt bones are sticking out and his back legs are really bony. His spine has also been becoming more prominent.

Thank you all so much for your concern and support.

I'm on that AB too for my cat scratches! I hope that gets Kibby on the road to recovery. Did you see Marje's discussion of coconut oil with Gus and that has helped him gain weight?

Re: 11/23 Kibby update

Thanks goodness for a diagnosis and treatment plan going forward. So much nicer to know what you are dealing with. I hope these ABs are the solution and he starts feeling better and eating more soon. Out of curiosity, how did the prices of ABs compare for you and Kibby? And how are you doing Anne?

Re: 11/23 Kibby update

Hi Anne,

I'm glad they finally know what's causing this and can treat it properly. I hope he heals quickly now. I've also been prescribed Doxycycline but couldn't take it. It made my ulcer very sick. It's pretty hard on the stomach so if he starts having symptoms you'll know what's causing them. I'm fine with most ab's. I hope they work for him & you both feel better quickly.

Poor Kibby!

Hugs,
Melanie & Racci

Re: 11/23 Kibby update

Sending lots of healing vines for Kibby. What a relief to finally have a dx and a treatment plan. I hope he tolerates the new abs and is better soon.

Re: 11/23 Kibby update

Anne - No, I missed the discussion on coconut oil - I'll have to look into that, thanks!

Wendy - Interesting question! I haven't paid for any for Kibby yet, so I'll have to get back to you on that! Mine were $14.99 with no insurance. My cough is starting to get better, but I'm still having body aches sometimes and my ribs are really sore. I'm going to back to the dr if things aren't better by Monday.

Melanie - Hmm, a friend of mine just told me today that it was supposed to be one of the gentler ones on the stomach. I've been trying to make sure to take it with food, but I've been having bouts of nausea even before I started it, so I can't tell if the food is making a difference. Good to know for Kibby's sake, tho, thank you.

Tara - Thanks so much. I sure hope he does too.

Ann - Thanks for the vines and for visiting. I hope he can start to mend now, too.

My regular vet called a little while ago. He says this mycoplasma that Kibby has can cause anemia and compromise the immune system. So in addition to doing the CBC he's going to run the Felv/FIV test. Kibby was just tested in July and vaccinated against felv, but not against FIV. So he just wants to make sure. And all he has is oral doxycycline, which will take longer to work, so he's looking into ordering some injectable. So again, we are awaiting more test results, and to see if Kibby can come home tonight or transfer to the ER. If he does come home, I'll definitely have him back there first thing in the morning.

Re: 11/23 Kibby update

meg healing vines for Kibby. It has to be a relief to have a DX, and a treatment plan going forward. I can only imagine how worried you have been. I will keep Kibby in my thoughts,

Lots of healing vines for you too!

Thank you all for visiting. Just spoke with the vet and Kibby is going to stay there overnight, and all day tomorrow. His temp has come down some, but is still 103.1. His FeLV/FIV test came back negative, which is a relief to me, but seemed to surprise the Dr. Apparently most of these cases end up FIV positive. The CBC came back already, and Kibby is becoming anemic, tho not terribly so yet, as his gum color is good. So they added prednisone I think he said, to help with that. His WBC has gone from 24 on Sunday to 34 today. I believe 15 is the upper end of normal. He said this can get to the point where a blood transfusion is necessary, but Kibby is not there yet. With his constant fever for more than a week now, Dr suspects he may have had this for quite some time, and it's only recently started supressing his immune system, and so he's showing symptoms. He has spent most of the day researching this. (It was supposed to be his day off) He has a call in to the radiologist to schedule an ultrasound for next week, as he's thinking there may be an underlying issue that has made Kibby prone to this disease. He also has a call in to an internal meds doc, but she was off today, so it will be next week before we get her opinion. But hopefully, now that he's on the appropriate AB and the right treatment, he will respond well. I'll go and visit him in the morning.

Anne, sounds like you have a great doctor who is really in Kibby's corner! Sending prayers and healing vines for both of you and hoping that Kibby can come home soon to snuggle with you. Snuggles make the world better. Blessings.

I'm glad you have a diagnosis for Kibby now and can get the correct treatment started. It's great that you have a vet who goes out of his way to help Kibby. Sending prayers & healing vines to you and Kibby.
