11/22 Luci AMPS 190 - Cast is off! Vet Update

As you know from previous posts, that cast has been driving Luci crazy - she was chewing it so much recently that I contacted the vet and sent him some pics of her leg where she's been gnawing and licking...but didn't hear back from them yesterday.

Last night DH came into the bedroom at 11:30 and loudly announced that Luci had CHEWED HER CAST OFF!:eek::eek: Of course I'm sound asleep and had to get up to see her leg - which has lost a lot of fur and she's constantly licking and grooming it. Her BG wasn't bad at the time but I set an alarm to check her again in a couple of hours - looked good for overnight - she was eating well and grooming that leg!

She was holding it up for walking and I'm waiting to hear what the vet has to say - he seemed confident last time we talked that her leg will heal one way or another - I sure hate to put her through another casting already. It's been just over 3 weeks since she broke her foot...so it's probably not completely healed - unless he wants me to come in early for that x-ray (scheduled for 12/12). Luci is more impatient that me and decided she'd had enough of that cast! :banghead:

Let's hope he says to leave it alone for now - I'll keep you posted.

I hope everyone here has a less dramatic Friday - time to get to work already! And I have some database work to do tomorrow - yes on Saturday - sometimes we have to do things behind the scenes when there is the least risk of customer impact. Hospitals don't tolerate downtime well at all...something about those patients being there all the time...:bighug::bighug:

Luci, what are we gonna do with u, I thought she would get that off. Hey when cats want something done. It gets done
Hate to hear u r working tomorrow and hope ur day is well, let us know what vet says

Oh Luci! :banghead::eek::nailbiting: You're a stubborn little kitty cat!! I agree with Paula, try to keep her contained until you hear that it's completely healed, otherwise it might set her back and no one wants that especially Luci!!!
Good luck Sue!!

Oh Luci! I hope it's healed enough to not need another cast. I had a cat that removed her spay stitches too. Thankfully she was healed enough to not need more.

She was determined to get it off. Now to keep her from jumping and climbing, might have to confine her more to prevent that.

@Sue and Luci Where did to get the new carrier and what kind was it?

Hi Paula, From Amazon - source of all good things it seems :)

It's really just perfect! Tall enough for her to sit upright in and a little spacious for her to turn around and stretch out. So lightweight too...and I just collapsed it and put it away this morning...it's just perfect for storing!

If it can help reassure you, when I found Mačka he had a broken front leg. He never got a cast (vet said it was no use, maybe because it was starting to heal already), and progressively healed on his own. He limped until he did not anymore (a few months). Cats will not push on the hurting leg if it's hurting. They will limp and avoid using it, until it's ok to use. At least, that was our experience!

Sometimes our animals know what's best for them! I sure hope the vet doesn't want to put a cast back on!
When Ravan was about 8 months old he broke his back leg right at the point where it goes into the hip socket. ( I was out shopping & have no idea how it happened.)
I had to take him to a specialist to have surgery. He ended up cutting off the end of the bone. I was shocked! What was it attached to? He told me the muscle would gradually grow around it. His leg was not even put into a cast. He came home wearing a collar with pain meds in it. I confined him to a room by himself.
The next morning he nearly ran down the stairs when I opened the door. I had to remove the collar & let him feel the pain so he wouldn't run around! Within a few weeks he was running around like nothing had happened!!

Vet Update: Took Luci over to see her favorite (NOT) vet here at 4:30 after a very very long day of work...and he took a look at her - growling and grumbling the whole time - said he'd like to have her leg 'get some air' over the weekend - as it looked a bit swollen and kinda 'rare' looking. Luci has been licking it all day and I saw inside the cast that she removed last night - all the fur from her leg.

So we have to take her back on Tuesday morning - bright and early and drop her off so that she can have a little twilight sleep - not full anesthesia - so she'll relax and allow him to recast her leg. He was very nice about the whole thing - said he'd even re-use her splint to save money. Didn't charge me for looking at her today...I'm sure the charges on Tuesday will more than make up for the quick look today.

Luci is very glad to be home after enduring the awful vetty visit (all of 10 minutes worth)...

Luci really did need it off, it sounds like. I sure hope she understands the need for it to be back on when that happens. I know you'll give her all the love she'll take. Poor little baby doll. Let her know many people love her and want her healed. I hope you can unwind for the evening Sue:bighug:
