Yesterday's post

All is fine in Banana Land. For those following on from yesterday's post, we lost our little Brandy-hen this afternoon. She had egg yolk peritonitis again, as well as sudden total blindness that happened yesterday (not related). We could go down the treatment route again, but it would only have bought her a few weeks and the EYP would have returned more frequently and progressively worse as time went on. So we decided that her quality of life was suffering, and we let her go. She died in my arms, loved. Here she is having cuddles with me a couple of hours beforehand - such a sweet girl, we will miss her lovely chattering.

Tara so sorry that Brandy earned her wings, but it was the right thing to do.:bighug::bighug::bighug:cat_wings>ocat_wings>ocat_wings>o

Brandy reminds me of Ginger, she's only young, not yet a year old, (we have 4) but Ginger is so chatty, she chirps and clucks when she sees me coming and hops up on the hen house for me to hand feed her and she gets pets and cuddles. Her sisters are not so friendly, the chirp, but are not keen on cuddles.

I'm so sorry Tara and Darryn, those little feathery ones really worm their way in to your heart when you pay them some attention. Brandy looks like such a beautiful little girl snuggling with you, but very tired. RIP Brandy:rb_icon:

Thanks for your kind thoughts everyone, it's so nice knowing people who understand how much animals mean to hubby & I, because you're all the same.

I know most people haven't had the pleasure of getting to know a chicken personally, but they are just like cats or dogs - they are each individuals, and even when your flock are all identical you can still tell who's who based on their behaviour and voice etc.

We only had Brandy for about 4mths, but she was like a puppy in that time - she'd follow us around, and quietly chatter in her sweet voice (who knows what she was saying!), and loved her cuddles. We will miss her, but we know we did the right thing to give her her (second) wings.

Aw, Tara, I'm so sorry Brandy had to leave you. My sister has chickens, and she says they all have their own personalities. When she goes outside they all come running and follow her around. One can't help but love another living creature that responds to attention.

Fly free, little Brandy, on stronger wings than you had here with us. Land softly.

Glad to hear Ivana continues to do well at the Falls.

So sorry it was Brandy's time to go.
I completely agree with you they are all individuals with wonderful personalities. I know our chickens are all different and they live together as a real family.
