Hi all -

It's been a crazy week of work and trying to get ready to leave for the week tomorrow afternoon. Emma seems to be doing ok, though she's a little sleepy today. She's all snuggled up on a down comforter right now.

I'm thinking about dropping her dose to 7U BID while I'm gone. She hasn't been hitting any low numbers, but I want to make it easy for the petsitter to measure the insulin, and make sure she doesn't drop too low in case she doesn't eat as well while I'm gone. Any input would be appreciated!

I didn't have a chance to get to the vet for her followup bloodwork this past week (for those who don't know, when we had bloodwork done in preparation for a dental, one of her liver enzymes was elevated and the dr wanted to recheck it in a month), but we have an appointment on the 29th to do that. I've also talked with her doctor about sending some blood off for the high-dose tests.

Hope everyone is having a great weekend, and isn't too stressed about the upcoming holiday!

will your petsitter be testing? And does Emma usually eat less when you are gone, or the same?

following with interest - I'll be in your same shoes next week, Kristen.

nice numbers for emma today. I can't answer the dose questions, but this will bump you up.

Enjoy your vacation!

My petsitter will not be able to test. Emma won't let her. She usually eats ok while I'm gone, but not always. That's why I was thinking about being cautious.

I definitely agree with being cautious, I was just debating how cautious to be. ;-)

Looking at her numbers, I agree with you that 7u should be safe. It will also be easy to measure. I suggest making a sample syringe with colored water or juice in it so the petsitter will have something to compare too.

Kristen....just dropping in to say Happy Thanksgiving. Be safe and have a good trip.

And Miss Emma....its important to eat all your fud......clean your plate yound lady.

Ok, thanks Libby! The good thing is the petsitter will be staying here. She came last night and stayed over, so we just went over the whole shot routine, and she drew the insulin and gave her the shot. Emma was a little confused by the whole thing, but we sprinkled some FD chicken dust on her food so she quickly forgot about who was touching her!

I have some syringes that don't have the half unit markings, so it's easy to see the line for 7, but I'll leave one with juice in it just in case.
