Tansi may be showing improvement. His fever has not made an appearance in two days. It is also hopeful that his symptoms do not seem to be getting worse. Have started syringe feeding every two hours at nightime too.

You are wonderful feeding him every two hours. How many cc at a time? That will be soooo good for him. Also very good news about the fever because a cat with a fever just won’t eat. I hope his appetite will return soon, at least in some measure- and then you can supplement with syringe feeding until it comes back in full force. I certainly will be praying for dear Tansi.

Thank you very much for your kind words.
I am using a tiny 1ml syringe because that is most comfortable for him and I can get in the cheek pouch pretty easily. He is getting 5 ml every two hours, and sometimes he lets me get in 6 or 7. Mixture of homemade blended turkey with the broth plus some churro for his culinary delight haha. I would like to use a higher calorie food, any thoughts?

Hill’s A/D which is a recovery type food sold at the vet. It is VERY palatable and most cats just LOVE it. It is also very smooth since it is designed to be used for syringe feeding. Very high calorie since it’s a recovery formula.
 
It is quite high in fat. Some cats with intestinal disease like IBD or SCL may get diarrhea on it. Royal Canin also makes a recovery formula, but I don’t think it’s quite as palatable as the A/D.
 
Recovery is a little higher in calories. One stop is to strain it to get the gritty pieces out if syringing. AD is smooth and easy to syringe when mixed with some warm water.

Neko LOVED the Recovery formula, and it's actually LC. She'd often eat a bit on her own after I gave her some Recovery. I fostered a hepatic lipidosis (fatty liver) kitty for the shelter and got him back to health on Recovery syringed for a couple weeks. It's my go to between it and A/D. But ECID.

One thing to note, cats that are syringe fed foods often don't like to eat them afterwards. It can develop a food aversion. So it's a good idea to assist feed something other than what they would normally eat. Hepatic lipidosis foster went completely off anything with chicken it it. :arghh:

I also mixed in hydracare
Syringe feeding still but accepted more.
I have the royal canin and kitten food also.

A/D has never failed me yet. Even my sick cats usually will eat it unless things are really bad (meaning at the end of life and they won’t eat anything anymore.). But Darcy liked the recovery as well after he had DKA and hepatic lipidosis - he ate both and liked them.

I’m so happy that you were able to get some A/D today since I only mentioned it just this morning when you asked for suggestions! I guess your vet is open on Sunday? Or ER vet?

Yes, I went to a 24 hour vet hospital.
And I got that plus royal canin recovery, and some kitten food.
I looked up the a/d because I am very hesitant to use anything hills makes, and it actually seems like it is not too bad. First 4 or 5 ingredients are meat, and the carbs are around 3.5 I think.
Sounds like you have had some serious illness and sad losses in your household too. I really had no idea that there were so many terrible diseases out there! When I was a kid, it seemed like you had a cat, then one day they disappeared or died, my parents would never have spent money to see what was wrong. I am glad things are different now. Cats are more like companions now and more appreciated.

That’s exactly the way it was when I was growing up with cats! I get that!

I was just talking to my sister about this last night. I, for whatever dumb reason, just thought all cats live til like 18 then disappear some day. Every cat I'd ever known until Mr Kitty just lived forever and never got sick...or at least noticeably so.

Yes, that's how it was at our house too. My parents didn't even spay or neuter!
