Hi Jennifer....

That's a smart thing to do....stay on top of it and be sure he gets lots of water, plenty of food, and we best not skip any more insulin. If, last night, I had even imagined there might have been a ketone issue today, I would have had you give him something but hopefully as he fills his shed, gets water, gets food, and assuming there is no infection, the trace will come down to negative.

I think that you need to shoot him his 1.5u dose every single time, as close to on time as you can, UNLESS he is under 200. You can post his number at +11 but don't wait for someone to tell you to shoot as long as he is above 200. If he's below 200, then you'll need some help. But with his ketones showing trace, you need to be able to get his full dose of insulin in him on time.

Tomorrow morning you should be shooting at 10:45. You shot at 10:15 this morning, 10:30 tonight, so 10:45 tomorrow morning, and 11 tomorrow night. You can test him when you get up just to see where he is and you can post it but the number that will be most informative is the +11 which will be at 9:30 a.m.

So to summarize, you can probably get one before bed test if you are not going to bed right away. Check him when you get up in the morning just to be sure he is ok. Test at 9:30 a.m. and post that +11 number and then plan to shoot him with 1.5u at 10:45 a.m. UNLESS his number is below 200. If it is below 200, do not feed, post and ask for help. I won't be around in the morning as I have to go to the doctor and then to work but someone should be around.

IF he is below 200 tomorrow and no one is around, please review the link in my signature block for "How to Handle Low Preshots" (or something to that effect). You can also post in "Feline Health" and ask for help if there is no one in LL online. Also remember...you can look at the bottom of the page to see who is on line in LL and you can pm them directly and ask for help.

Ok...I'm off to bed. Hope you get some rest and his ketones are negative tomorrow. Good to stay on top of that. Great job. Ni Ni.

Hi JenF. Do you know how to give SubQ fluids? Do your have SubQ fluids, an admin line, and needles there?

It might help to flush ketones to give Mikey fluids, but not too much, because fluids also can upset his electrolyte balance.

I have nothing to give sub Q fluids with. I am going to the vet today and can ask about supplies or can they be sent to me? I have never given sub q fluids before, but coincidentally I was watching a video on how to administer the other day.

He seens fine this morning. I will test his urine again today
