Hi everyone,

We had a little scare today. Johnny's been on 2% carb food (chopped grill FF) since he went OTJ in September. To give him a little variety, we were going to test him this a.m., let him have 3% FF and then test throughout the day to see how he handled it. Big surprise to see a 260 first thing this morning! Early in the afternoon, Brian found him munching on some dead-ish leaves I'd weeded from a plant and put in a non-covered garbage can (bad mommy!). I threw those away on Friday night, so it's possible he's been feasting ever since or maybe just today. They are no longer available to him. ;)

We tested him every 3-4 hours today and got 260/254/253/205.

We're glad to see he's now down to 205, but we're going to keep a close eye on his numbers the next couple of days. He's been acting fine, although maybe a little hungrier than usual the past few days. All other Ps are in place!

We don't have really recent numbers for comparison's sake, but I did update his chart with spot checks we've done.

Really hoping it was the leaves. But prepared if it wasn't. nailbite_smile

I hope everyone's doing well.
Janice

Re: 11/21 Johnny - Solid yellows but coming down...

uh-oh, I hope it was just the leaves. Keep us updated. Now come down, Johnny! If you want to come visit LL just tell your mom to open an oldtimer condo, you don't have to go back on the juice to get a condo, ok?

Re: 11/21 Johnny - Solid yellows but coming down...

I was just thinking about you guys. I hope these numbers are due to the leaves or some contraband that Johnny got himself into an are very short lived.

Re: 11/21 Johnny - Solid yellows but coming down...

Thanks for the positive thoughts, Libby and Sienne. I really think Johnny likes to know that there is fresh insulin in the house. The vial (minus 13 drops) was opened 8/17, so is just a shade past three months old.

ack! come on down, johnny!
see how things go. if he doesn't come down, it might be a good idea to take him in for a wellness check...

Re: 11/21 Johnny - Solid yellows but coming down...

Aww Johnny, get back down, right now! I hope it was just the contraband leaves too. Kitties don't need veggies. LOL!

Maybe he needs to play a little chairball to work off those extra BG numbers.

Re: 11/21 Johnny - Solid yellows but coming down...

Thanks, everyone.

He's now 266 an hour and a half after the 205. Meh. :/

Jill, regarding the wellness check, do you mean full bloodwork? Also, I know many recommend dentals. Our vet has mentioned it in the past, but they always seem to be "upselling" in many ways. Perhaps it's time for a new vet. I'm going to go back to my pm's and see who Sienne uses.

We're going out of town Thurs-Sun and the kitties will be at our friends' house. They've watched them many times before and my friend has done testing and shots. I may be jumping ahead here, but it's what my brain does best!

yes, i'd have blood work and urinalysis (needle draw called cyntocentisis) to start. if johnny needs a dental, i'd have one done soon. a simple case of gingivitis knocked alex out of remission last year. a dental and a short stint on insulin sent her back to the falls.

edited to add: the sterile urine draw will allow them to get a clean sample so they can run a C&S.

We have M/T/W that we'll be home this week. We'll try to schedule him for the blood/urine tests. Is this a wait and see, insulin-wise? Does it seem like it could be something other than a simple (this would shock my pre-FDMB self) need for more insulin? If so, let me know, so I can make sure the test includes it.

We can take him with us for Thanksgiving if it works out better for Johnny.

What the heck? I hope Johnny comes down and stays down for you. If he doesn't I agree it's time for a vet visit to see what's causing it. Good luck.
