Sorry for the absence this weekend, Saturday the snow started flying and while we didn't get a lot, what did fall was mixed with freezing rain that took out the wi-fi and the phones most of the day on Sunday at least it only effected the cable service and we kept power on to the house itself. Spent most of the day Sunday digging out and clearing all the sidewalks (forgot how many we have now being a corner house) and the driveway from their snow and ice coating.

Miss Autumn has decided once again that she prefers a 16/16 dosing schedule to a 12/12 or at least for now she does..lol With Autumn anything can change at a moment's notice and usually does. So I spent last night revamping her spreadsheet into something that hopefully will make sense to track her numbers on, I just have last night's numbers on it at present and will have to back up and fill in the previous data yet to it as it is now a stand alone spreadsheet and not just a tab to her off her former one.

As you can see by it though she led me merry chase last night and I finally crawled into bed around 3 am this morning only to summoned back on my feet at 6:00 this morning, although Jon let me sleep in until 6:45 when I absolutely had to be up to feed the gang and test and shoot Cassanova, or at least that was the plan, fed everyone but still waiting to shoot Cassanova as he was a mere 47 this morning of a .25u So it looks like as he continues to heal up his dose continues to drop so hopefully once he's completely healed and we get the remaining steroids out of his system then he will revert back to OTJ again.

Re: 11-17 Autumn amps-259, Cassanova ambg-47

Glad you are ok, I was worried!

Forecast for lake effect snow here is 1-2 FEET by Wednesday. SIGH. I'm so not ready for this!

Autumn is such a typical girl doing her own thing!

Re: 11-17 Autumn amps-259, +5-84

Went back to bed this morning and thankfully DH took an early lunch and woke me up to let me know he was coming home early. This way I'm only an hour late in serving 2nd breakfast.

Nice drop back to green for the Miss. Cass is still an unshootable 51

Was worried too. Thought you might have been snowed in!

I sent you a PM....can you take a look when you have time.

Thanks.

Re: 11-17 Autumn amps-259,+5-84,+8-76,+12-106,pmps@+16-329,+

Really hoping the steroids clear Cassanova's system quickly and he reverts back to OTJ, this is driving me a little bit batty, having one cat on a 16/16 dosing schedule and one on a 12/12 dosing schedule. :dizcat But hey whatever works, I'm just here to serve.

Its another lovely day in the arctic here with a whopping morning temp of 6F. Although the weatherman is forecasting that by this weekend we should be thawing out and seeing more seasonal temps in the mid 40's and low 50's. People will be running around in shorts and t-shirts if that happens..lol

I just want to get enough defrosted to get out and get the Christmas lights up before we ice over again. If this winter goes like this Spring and Summer went we are in for a long cold and wet winter. So I'm starting to amp up on the Soups and Stews production. Since there is just the two of us, and I make big batches of soups and stews and then either can or freeze the leftovers so that is we get snowed in (and it happens fairly often around here) we at least have something we can heat and eat, even if that heating is via the outside grill. lol Today's creation is Loaded Baked Potato Soup. I'm sure when I get to frying the bacon for it I will be the best mommy in the world, until...I don't share. ohmygod_smile   Of course I also have to remember that we are now in town as opposed to the old house that was just barely inside the city limits. Still I'd rather have a full larder and not need it, than to get caught with nothing in the house and up to my eye balls in snow.

6 degrees. Brrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr

Re: 11-17 Autumn amps-259,+5-84,+8-76,+12-106,pmps@+16-329,+

It's a balmy 25 here! We didn't get the 1-2 feet predicted where I live north of Buffalo, but the suburbs south of Buffalo are getting whallopped with snow. Like 3-4 feet of snow since last night and it's supposed to snow all day today and tomorrow. Crazy. It's gorgeous blue sunny skies with about an inch of snow on the ground. I need to get our lights on the bushes too. If I was smart I'd have done them last week when it was 50!

C'mon Cass, time for another OTJ party! And stop jumping on the counters!

Re: 11-17 Autumn amps-259,+5-84,+8-76,+12-106,pmps@+16-329,+

Looks like you're about ready to 'break' another one Mel! ;)
I swear, you just can't play with your 'toys' without breaking them! LOL

Re: 11-17 Autumn amps-259,+5-84,+8-76,+12-106,pmps@+16-329,+

Just 1 degree here in sunny but freezing Canada. Think I should become a snow bird!

Re: 11-19 Autumn amps-466

Rocky start this morning for Mz. Autumn but not unexpected since she hit 36 last night at +8 and then because of mom screwing up her dosing schedule and dosing at +12 on a 185 (which caused the 36) her 16 hours would have been up at 3 a.m. this morning. So rather than staying on a dosing schedule that would have me every other day crawling out of a nice warm bed at 3 am to dose a cat, I elected to skip it and start her back on at 7am this morning and get her back on a schedule that we both can live with. Not ideal, but better than trying to either roll her back 15 minutes a shot or living with the 3 am wake up call.

Cassanova is running about 36 hours without insulin and then I have to tap him down again. And wonders never cease, yesterday while I was putting the Loaded Baked Potato Soup together he stayed OFF the counters and away from the stove, even while I was frying up a pound of bacon to go in it. The little air blaster thing seems to be doing the trick as it has been several days now and so far I haven't caught anyone on the counters. Its even made me jump a couple of times because I forget it is there and go to do something on the counter without disarming it first and it will go off. It's kind of cool as it makes a hissing noise when it fires like an angry cat.

Between now and Christmas I'm probably going to be on and off the board, while I will be checking in from my phone when there are new posts I might not get back to folks right away. As I have a big push on right now at the house to get a bunch of stuff cooked up and canned, as well as getting stuff done for the holidays. This has been a bad time of year for both Jon and I do to losses on both sides, my mom right after Thanksgiving and his mom right before Christmas. So we decided starting this year with the new home we are banishing all those bad memories and replacing them with good ones. And that starts with bringing back the best parts from both holidays from our childhood. While we can't really get the big family feasts as there isn't a lot of family left and what is left is scattered to the 4 winds, we can still enjoy a family feast of just 2. And for Christmas we are going all out, lights, decorations and yes, for the first time since we've been married a Christmas tree with all the trimmings. But I have to hustle as I have 19 christmas stockings to get ready. Yes, all the critters are getting their own stockings this year...lol Hey, they're family and family of the best kind, they don't complain, whine or wreck your car...lol

Hey, nervous that you might not be around as I kinda need your advice with me finally saying no to the vet's advice :-(

How on earth will you keep all your kitties away from the Christmas decorations?

Christmas is a very quiet affair for me as I am in this country by myself. All my family are still in Scotland.

Re: 11-19 Autumn amps-466

Oh I'm still going to be here, just night not be here within a split second like I normally respond. Depending on how covered I am in flour and dough...lol

I will at the very least be checking in every 4 hours when I test and update Autumn's spreadsheet. I always monitor this forum, just don't always jump in if there isn't a lot of need for a quick answer. Once the computer is on for the day then it's easy to fly in and out. She's an old beast and it takes awhile to get her warmed up and running frist thing in the mornings, of course it takes me awhile to get warmed up and running at full speed as well...lol

The one thing I don't ever do is completely vanish unless I have no power. I do tend to not post much on the weekends, mostly because that is really the only time Jon and I have much couple time together. As well as there is currently only one computer up and running so the weekends are when he gets custody of it..lol But I do always monitor and if there is something important I try to jump in and answer as quickly as I can.

Re: 11-19 Autumn amps-466

Oh phew. I am relieved!

I never expect an immediate answer - unless at my job! lol. I wish I could leave the job and be a full time carer to my cat, but unfortunately that would not pay for his needs. My baby purrs happily by my side all night not knowing how stressed I am trying to keep him safe. He scared me silly this morning as I woke at 5:30am wondering why he had let me sleep so late (typically he wakes me at 4am wanting me to lift him on the bed if he had jumped down in the night). He was not on the bed not on the floor beside me and didn't mew when I called. So I leapt out of bed, ran through to the living room where he sat and mewed saying "right you're up, breakfast time!" Love him to bits but he gave me a scare.

Re: 11-19 Autumn amps-466

LOL it wasn't too long ago that Autumn gave me a scare like that. I had shot fairly low for her and then had to leave to go pay a few bills and run a couple errands. When I got home she was no where to be seen. I called and called which normally brings her running....nothing. So I finally stopped searching frantically for her and listened. I could hear her collar bell but it sounded muffled. Finally I realized that the front foyer door had been open when I left but was now closed. Yep she had managed to lock herself in the front foyer. Opened the door and she very calmly wanders out with that look of 'About Time Woman' on her face...lol I'm ready for a nervous breakdown and she is just ticked because she wasn't released sooner. Gotta love them or otherwise we would probably strangle them...roflmao

Trust me being a full time kitty mom only looks good on paper..lol There are days I would dearly love to still be employed so I could get a break. The hours are long and the pay is shitty on this one...lol Just the other day DH was complaining about his job and how cushy mine was, until I pointed out to him that his only goes from 8-5 Monday through Friday and when he leaves work, he leaves work. I on the other hand work 7 days a week and mine starts at 6:10 am and runs until somewhere around midnight if one of the sugar cats doesn't decide to hold a pajama party with me. I get no weekends, sick days or holidays off, in fact weekends and holidays just mean more work for me since he is home to be cooked for and most of the holiday celebrations are on me. At the end of his week they pay him, at the end of mine I might get a pat on the back or a purr or two. And I never leave work, I live with my job and my coworkers 24/7 and no running errands and paying bills does not count as getting out of the house...lol It's still part of my job. Surprisingly after our little conversation he started helping around the house on weekends. He is now doing the laundry, cleaning the litter boxes and walking the dog for me on the weekends as well as doing the evening dishes every night. Pay still stinks but at least the hours are getting better..hehehe

Re: 11-19 Autumn amps-466

lol! Yeah, I just wish I didn't have the 2 hr each way commute. I don't know how I will manage when we start getting lower numbers. My job, however, is only until February when either I panic as I will be unemployed and no income to support Silver's treatment, or I try hard to find something closer to home. Not easy in this day and age!

Re: 11-19 Autumn amps-466

Fingers crossed that when the time comes that you will find something you love and close to home...God I remember the days of 2 hour commutes, hate them especially in winter. But back then at least I didn't have diabetic cats to worry about just a dog that would shred the house if I wasn't home when she thought I should be..lol

Being married to a roofer I have learned on the fly how to keep us a float when the hours get short this time of year, thus the big cooking and canning push right now. Normally this would have all been done months ago, but since we just moved in late June, and this place needed a lot of work just to get it ready to be lived in, so much of the other stuff got put on the back burners. Little bit behind the game this year, but so far, knock wood Jon's hours have held up because while freezing cold it is still fairly dry here so his crews have been able to work through the rough weather. So trying to start stock piling while I still can.

One trick that you might want to try if you can while still employed is getting just a little extra each time you get supplies..I tend to get an extra pack of 50 test strips each week, as well as a few extra cans of cat food, an extra box of litter here and there etc, Then store those in a cool dry place, loving our new house for this as it actually has an old root cellar in the basement that is already decked out in shelves to put up canned good on. I also watch for sales on non-perishable human food stuffs like canned veggies and your cream of type soups. Stock pile those as well as cleaning supplies when the money is good to carry us over when the checks get lean in winter. So far it as worked great and the side benefit is in the summer when its just too freaking hot to cook or Jon works until dark and gets home late, I can pull from the stockpile and just heat and eat..no muss no fuss

I would love to but I am seriously struggling just to get the supplies I DO need let alone anything extra. Its a huge financial stress right now.

Re: 11-19 Autumn amps-466

Kittymom, keep a check on the 'Supply Closet' board. People will post lots of stuff for free or shipping that can help you. Insulin, needles, etc. Every little bit helps when you're in a bind. Been there and usually stay there now that I'm on SSD. More than once, I've had insulin sent to me for Lucian when I didn't have 2 dimes to rub together and it's the only way we made it. Although we are stable now, it was that way in the last couple years. Check on the closet, like once a day, stuff goes quick and don't be embarrassed to ask for help. There are people here that will usually help you out.
Lucian now being on PZI, I think it's cheaper, but he didn't do well at all on Lantus. Did well for a couple months on Lev, but then went back to HIS norm. ohmygod_smile
Of course I use the cheapest strips available from Walmart and get his Friskee's from Petsmart when it's on sale for 48 cents a can, Walmart the rest of the time. I have 3 to feed but only 1 sugarcat. :)
Try to save every penny you can between now and Feb and hopefully you will get help here.

Dang Mel, haven't seen Autumn that high in a long time, so much for a schedule huh? Lucian threw a 300+ at +10 this morning, go figure. At least there hasn't been a 'meter greeting' since he's been on PZI. YAY! You know there is no rhyme or reason with him. @-)

Re: 11-19 Autumn amps-466

Oh there for awhile until I finally got a clue and found the over lapping nadirs she was going even higher than that...We were seeing blacks, (until I took black off her ss..lol) Hey anything over 399 is too freaking high I don't need color changes to tell me the difference between 400's and 500's so now black with yellow is hypo range on her sheet, as well as some other modifications I've done to hers to help me track her better.

Juliet, Deb is right about this place never be afraid to yell if you need help, we are very good at rallying the troops to make sure everyone has what they need. The Supply Closet is an excellent place to look, I've also gotten strips, insulin and other goodies out of there when we've been in a pinch. And conversely gotten rid of stuff I had too much of through there as well, like when my mom passed away and left me 35 pens of Levemir. Which at the time I only had Autumn to shoot so it was going to be way more insulin than what she could use before it expired so I put it in the supply closet and got it to kitties that needed it. Done the same with meters before as well. Since I keep separate meters for each cat, when I lost Musette I donated her meter, as well as Maxwell's meter when he went into remission and stayed there.

Just got an outdoor heating pad for my little stray semi-feral guy from one of the girls on the board that no longer needed it, so we do pass stuff around a lot around here.

Lol, wish I could take black off my sheet too!

I have looked in the Supply Closet and the last posting I saw was in April? I am in Canada so most of the postings I think will more likely be US related. So far I am tightening every belt so my kitty gets his needs lol! I am trying ebay but I keep losing the bids. Its the strips that are killing me. Insulin isn't too bad here. And I KNOW I probably shouldn't but I am using the same needle for am and pm shots then discarding. Is this really bad??

Re: 11-19 Autumn amps-466, +4-381, +8-200

I find that buying the test strips off eBay is by far the cheapest. In the uk I would pay ÂŁ27 per 50 strip pack and would go through one a week. Now I get them off eBay for approx ÂŁ11-14. I can't believe the difference.

Mel

I see autumn is still keeping you on your toes. Your small Xmas gathering sounds fantastic. I love that you and your husband are putting in so much effort to make it special. The last few Christmases have not been good in our household but you are making me think that this year I should really try to get into the spirit of it and make it special.

Re: 11-19 Autumn amps-466, +4-381, +8-200

Since we've never had an official house warming for the new place yet we are also talking about throwing a small open house between Thanksgiving and Christmas as well. But yep we're taking back the holidays for what they were meant for good friends, good food and wonderful memories. Not whose getting what from whom. We started at Halloween. We went and got lost in a corn maze, did the cheesey haunted house and picked and carved jack o lanterns. Even dressed up to hand out candy. We had a blast and had a week of fun for less than a night at a club or a movie and nice dinner would have cost us.

Just have to remember that when the holidays first started they weren't about greed. But celebrating what we already had. And frankly neither of us remember what we got as kids but things like grandma's fudge or stomping through the snow to find and cut down the perfect tree with dad. That is what we want to bring back. The traditions not the commercial hype

Re: 11-19 Autumn amps-466, +4-381, +8-200

funny you should mention that Mel. I was watching the history chanel's history of Christmas, and the was pointed out. while I don't get to spend my Christmas with the family much since I moved away, I keep memories of Christmas past in my heart.

Re: 11-19 Autumn amps-466, +4-381, +8-200, +12-160

There we go, right back on schedule after mommy screwed it up yesterday. That's my girl. Now just surf along nicely for another 4 hour until you get the next shot again.

Oh yeah I guess I forgot to mention after she tanked yesterday I dropped her dose so she is making this pull down on .3u every 16 hours. Maybe this time she actually will walk off the insulin the right way since I figured out what had her in that vicious cycle of diving and bouncing.

Re: 11-20 Autumn ps-362, +8-175

I guess right now amps and pmps don't apply to Miss Autumn since she is running in 16 hour cycles. So from on I guess I just need to list her preshots as just PS. Although I kind of suspect her cycles are more like 14/14 or 15/15 but that just doesn't work for the rest of the household so since I definitely can't shoot her 12/12 without her diving and bouncing the best I can do is extend that to 16/16 and just let her be higher at preshots since she does come down and surf beautifully. It just still makes me cringe to see those pink preshots.

Even after 2 years she is still a work in progress. But then again she had a long hard road to get back to where she is even today. Those first few weeks after we adopted her I was so afraid help hadn't come in time for her and that I would wake up in the morning and find a dead cat. But now every morning I'm greeted with wonderful kitty kisses.

Kitty kisses are great - I wish my Silver would change his alarm clock tho! If Autumn is on 16-16 does that mean you are getting up in the middle of the night to shoot?? urgh! I updated my condo...1u it is for now with Silver ;-)

Re: 11-20 Autumn ps-362, +8-175

Nope I shoot 7am, 11 pm and 3pm just alternating days. So yesterday I shot at 7 am then again at 11 pm and today I will shoot again at 3 pm. And why I let her go so high the other night when I screwed up her schedule by trying to catch her before she got too high and then had her tank by hitting 36. I had to get her back on a schedule we both could live with. Because while I love her to death and will stay up with her all night if she is too low, I'm not crawling my bod out of a nice warm bed at 3 a.m. to test and shoot a cat. Especially right now while Cassanova is back on insulin and being shot on a 12/12 schedule. I may be a crazy cat lady but I'm still not that insane, close, but not quite, at least not yet...lol

CRAZY CAT LADY?? Yeah that's me! I have set my alarm clock so many times, it refuses to work! Need a new one. I have to fight this one to make it set now. ohmygod_smile My own 'people' DR has thrown a fit about the physical effect caring for my boy has had on me. Cat people are definitely a different breed that's for sure. When I married Jon he was a DOG person, until he met my cats, now he is right up there with all the rest of the crazy cat guys...lol. One of the reasons we have King the drooler was because Jon was a dog guy and I thought with all the cats (back then only 6) that maybe he should have a puppy-dog. And we both love the dog to bits, but we were talking the other day as King is really starting to show his age, about when King does earn his wings what kind of dog we would like next, because King will be so hard to replace, and to my surprise Jon was like...I don't know if I want another dog ever, because I love cats. They are so nice and easy to care for. They don't need to be walked or let outside, they are constantly under your feet clinging to you for attention, and they can entertain themselves as well as play with you. I think I like cats better than dogs...lol

Never in my wildest dreams did I think he would ever take cats over dogs. That was actually our sticking point before we got married, was I was a cat person and he was a dog person. But then he met Onyx and Muse and the love affair with cats started. Out of the 16 here, I'm only responsible for dragging 6 home..all the rest came from frantic phone calls from Jon with "Babe, I'm flying home with a little one that needs our help, get the foster room ready." lol Yep my confirmed dyed in the wool dog guy is now a cat guy.

CRAZY CAT LADY?? Yeah that's me! I have set my alarm clock so many times, it refuses to work! Need a new one. We are on alarm clock number 3, because the other two finally just gave up and refused to set anymore after having 5 sugarcats in 4 years...

And after the holidays are over you all are going to find out just how crazy of cat people we really are, there is something in the works here that just might involve a lot more extra sweet kitties (not living here). Now that we have the new place and the internet back on at the house, there is a ton of research going into a new project that involves becoming a legal rescue..And that is all the hints I'm giving for now.

Yup I had my best friend wanting me to euthanize my cat yesterday. We have agreed to disagree!

UH Mel? No surprise on this end.

Juliet, I've come to realize that our good friends and family are only making those suggestions because of what we go thru taking care of our sugarcats. The lack of sleep, the stress, the financial issues. They are only concerned with our health, etc. Because I have an overabundance of health issues, everyone from my DR to my son thought putting Lucian down was best. I disagreed. As I told my son, when I took Lucian to care for almost 16 yrs ago, that meant forever, to the best of my ability. I have had him all his life. I refuse to throw in the towel as long as I can care for him and he's still healthy. Lucian's ONLY health issue is FD and his vet says his blood work etc is amazing for a cat his age. That tells me there is absolutely no reason to put him down. I would never let him be sick and miserable, you do have to know when to draw the line and I know I have been selfish too many times with my babies that I couldn't let go until the last minute. As ornery as he is, he ain't going no where any time soon.

Re: 11-20 Autumn ps-362, +8-175

I guess I lucked out when it came to family and friends support with my extra sweet fur-kids because I got no flack about treating them. But then again, Jon and I are about the only ones on the either side of the family that aren't diabetic. Mom was, my sister is, my aunt was, my father-in-law is and so on down the line. Even about half our friends are diabetic. So when I announced that Muse was diabetic and was going to need insulin the only questions or suggestions I got was "what insulin? what dose? and do you need a meter we have extras" lol When mom passed 2 years ago she had in her will that if I still had a diabetic cat at the time of her passing then I was to receive all her unused insulin, meters and strips for Autumn (or whatever diabetic cat I had at the time). Which my sister and step-father chose not to honor, but mom had already given me for Autumn the only real thing of value, which was the insulin. Although I would have loved to have her old meter just for sentimental reasons as I could never afford the strips for the thing but it was a very nice and expensive meter, it talks to you since mom's eyesight was failing. Would have been perfect to test late at night by flashlight. But I seriously don't need another meter as I have 2 Bayer contours(Maxwell's and Musette's), 1 One Touch mini (Muse's), 2 Relion micros main meters for Autumn and Cass), and 2 Relion Primes (backups for both cats).

Re: 11-20 Autumn ps-362, +8-175, +12-92, +14-165, PS-243

We have our first yellow preshot since the full switch over to 16/16 for a cycle length. Okay so I didn't expect to being doing a happy dance for a yellow preshot 2 years later, but after the last month of dives and bounces and going back to seeing red and pink, yellow delights me to no end. It's not perfect yet, but so much better then the extremes of 20 to 500+ we had going on after her emergency surgery. Now if she would just go flat like a good Lev cat. Oh wait this is Autumn and she will do as she pleases.
