It may have been a fur shot last night but it doesn't seem to have affected Zener too much. Anne will be REALLY happy to see that. None of the good stuff for Zener, at least not yet.
Liz

Re: 11/20 Zener AMPS 296;+1 325 A Trak

What a relief that the possible fur shot may not have been as bad as Anne thought. I know you are both happy with that. Come on down Zener and you get the good stuff!! Have a great day Liz!!

Re: 11/20 Zener AMPS 296;+1 325 A Trak

Zener, the only way to get the good stuff is to bring the #s down. That's your mission for the day.

Thanks, Linda and Melissa! Zener listens to his LL aunties. I almost tested again but figured he would get 17% in any case so just went ahead and pulled out the high carbs. We are trying to flatten out Zener's curves so whenever we see a big drop (> 50 pts/hr) we pull out the high carbs. He is not particularly carb sensitive. This is a Zener special approach to try to manage his bounciness and is not advised for everyone.

Re: 11/20 Zener AMPS 296;+1 325 A Trak

I've given a lot of fur shots (16 in 18 months  ) and you just never know how a fur shot will play out! It happens, it's frustrating for the bean, but the kitty recovers quickly. It looks like Zener didn't even notice! ;-)

If this is only your second fur shot, I'd say you are doing really well in that department. If Tinkles goes back on the juice, I may need to invite you two over to give his shots...you have a far better record than I do!

Slow down, Zener, no need to be in such a hurry...

You are right Laurie, it looks like Zener hardly twitched a whisker! And I feel so much better and probably won't feel nearly as bad the next time.

Thanks for that Laurie! I had to give myself allergy shots for 11 years, so I had a bit of shot-giving experience, though he is definitely harder to shoot than I was. I'm the one who has missed twice and Liz, who does not like medical anything, is 100%! She does great with all of it! :YMHUG:

Liz is off the morning duty and went to the supermarket while I (Anne) was sleeping. Zener continues to enjoy his ride on the express train this morning, despite last night's fur shot.

Re: 11/20 Zener AMPS 296;+1 325;+2 230;+3 183 A Trak

To be fair, Zener has rather thin fur. You could see his belly when he was a kitten. Mr. Tinkles appears to have quite thick, long fur. Anne has also give a LOT more of Zener's shots than me.

Re: 11/20 Zener AMPS 296;+1 325;+2 230;+3 183 A Trak

Well....I'm needle phobic too....that has some bearing on it! I'm thankful for Mr Tinkles' long thick fur....if I saw the needle go through the skin, I would be on the floor. ohmygod_smile So I did the shots by "feel" not by sight. It's tougher to be accurate that way, but at least I didn't pass out! ;-)

Zener does mean business! Nice job managing the drop!

I was a little late in getting his +4. We pulled out the treats to see if we can steer more (semi soft morsels with honey - we used to give him for arthritis. Our previous vet gave them to us because they have glucosamine and we used to give him 5 per day - pre FD. They are useful now for when his numbers are low and he is so excited to get them he wiggles all over). Loving the green - paws crossed about the bounce that usually follows.

Hi anne, wow with Zener today. He is doing great and lower than Maggie and it's only +4. I bet he is going to love those treats.

Thanks Ann, Zener is inspired by Maggie's lovely flat cycles - and GREEN is my favorite color. Blue is Liz's favorite color, so if Zener is blue or green, his beans love it!

Hi Ann, thanks for your support!

Zener is not very carb sensitive and the transition to dry kibble was difficult. I can't remember how many times I read Dr Lisa's helpful hints and repeated the mantra "don't give up". At first, the only wet food he would eat was HC or MC. It was a glorious day when we got him to eating 8%. We keep working at it and hope someday to be able to say 8% is the highest he gets! :-D

What a nice drop for Zener and great going with managing the fuds. Thank you guys for visiting Simon's condos and also for letting me know that you have also had really high readings with the ketosticks. That gave me some relief knowing that they are not that accurate. Have a great rest of the day!

All quiet here this afternoon, cloudy with a mix of rain/snow drizzling stuff. Zener braved a short trip around the backyard to stalk a bird. Beans are off to yoga, otherwise known as the bean version of "kitty stretching class". Will be interesting to see what Mr Z's PMPS is today after such a nice nadir! We are expecting a bounce and would love to be wrong!

Hi Lisa, Zener is back on the stinkus pinkus floor at PMPS so I will not send him to chat with Do Lou, he will give bad advice like "would you like to join me on my trampoline!

Re: 11/20 Zener PMPS 365 ATrk

wow - what a nice day for Zener! Nicely managed with the food this morning. Love these numbers - what a great low level blue. :-D :-D sorry for the bounce, and I hope Zener clears it quickly.

Re: 11/20 Zener PMPS 365 ATrk

What beautiful blue green numbers today! You did a great job managing the numbers, I think the big drop from +1 to +2 did it, but you couldn't see it coming....and Zener's liver just couldn't stop itself from panicking! Tomorrow is another day. The good news about a bounce is that you can get some sleep!

Front loading the cycle with mini meals usually takes some time to work, often about a month....so don't get discouraged.

Re: 11/20 Zener PMPS 365 ATrk

@Michelle, we loved the numbers and expected the bounce. Paws crossed it is a short one!

@ Laurie, thanks for the help and support! We appreciate knowing a time frame too. After all this time, a month doesn't seem too long. We feel like we see progress and that's encouraging! Now, if we can get Mr. Liver on board... ;-)

Wow what a day in Zener land!!! Glad his appy was back and what a nice curve today. But the bounce.... cat(2)_steam cat(2)_steam cat(2)_steam Zener!!!

HOpe you two ladies enjoyed yoga and the weather is not being an issue on getting around...but I'm sure you are used to it!!

Have a great night!!

Re: 11/20 Zener PMPS 365;+1 376 ATrk

Thanks for stopping in Marje, we hope you are feeling better! It's no fun to feel punk for the upcoming "gorge" holiday of the year! You'll miss all those wonderful tastes if your head is still all stopped up! Did you know, rattlesnake tastes like chicken?

Zener had a great morning and we think his dramatic drop early between +1 and +2 (from 325 to 230 ohmygod_smile) may be the culprit. It doesn't take much to make Zener's liver go all a quiver! The good fuds worked pretty well after that. I was expecting the worse after the fur shot the night before and instead we got "action jackson"! It's a good thing we do not gamble in Vegas or we would lose everything!

Just a bit of spitting of rain and snow mix here today. Nothing on the roads, and only about 1-2" expected. We are used to it now after 14 years and a year ago (after our winter of 144") we bought a slightly used 4-wheel drive jeep, so no worries getting around in winter any more!

Hope you have a restful evening and are well on the road to recovery. :YMHUG:

+1 376, 0.8oz 8%

Though we don't expect action, after this morning's big drop between +1 and +2, we'll check it. We are learning to expect the unexpected from Mr Z.

Liz just got in from chasing the skunk away from the back porch and gathering up the kitties who were very watchful. Hope everyone has a quiet and peaceful Sunday evening in LL.

Re: 11/20 Zener PMPS 365;+1 376 ATrk

Hi Christie, will you send Willie to chat with Zener about his sky diving? He is showing us how to do a stinkus pinkus bounce!
@+2 409 :o
Looks like the beans will get a good night's sleep.

Well, Zener is almost off the stinkus pinkus floor @+4 330 with the alpha trak.

PMPS 365, 8th cycle @s1.0u, 1.7oz 8%, negative ketones
+1 376, 0.8oz 8%
+2 409, 0.7oz 8%
+4 330, 1.0oz 9%

He's just a bit below his PMPS now @+4; a 79 point drop between +2 and +4, so paws crossed this won't start a bounce in a bounce!
Even if he dropped another 80 by +6, he would still be in the 200s. So, I'm thinking the numbers are high enough that it is probably safe to get some sleep, save a few strips and give the big guy a poke break. Neosporin in place on his ears, and I'm soon to bed.

Ni ni LL. Sleep tight all!
I-) I-) I-)

well, at least we know zener can get to those great numbers when all the stars align! crazy pm cycle he's got going now!

i'm curious about you giving yourself allergy shots, anne - are you a physician? somehow i thought both of you were university profs. i have to get allergy shots but there's no doing it yourself around here. when i started getting them you had to wait for 10 minutes - now it's 30 minutes. everyone's afraid you're going to go into anaphylactic (sp?) shock and die.

which reminds me - i have to get a shot tomorrow. :-D

ok zener, enough playing in the stars, come back down to the decent numbers! on the other hand, nice of you to let your beans sleep all night!

Things have probably changed since the mid 1980s to early 1990s when I lived in the midwest and had to take allergy shots. I'm a physical therapist so have some medical background and can recognize a reaction, but I am sure in our litigious society, no one would let me do it today! When I first started with shots years ago, we had the 10 minute wait rule. Then I gave them to myself for several years. In my last gig there, when I was still taking shots, my office was next to our clinic nurse, so she would give the shots to me and I was relieved to no longer have to order and keep syringes at home!
Once we moved away from corn fields, no more allergy shots!

And I really am off to bed now, if I can tear myself away from reading condos!
