I hope China decides to come back down soon. I hope your mom is doing better today.

Chris, I just read yesterday's condo about your mom. Is she doing any better today with the water retention?

Thanks for the visits Carla and Catherine!!

She's still got a lot of edema, but the doctors don't seem to be too concerned about it (at least that's what my son said when the doc came in while he was there) but he didn't ask any questions and I have quite a few I'd like answered!

We'll just have to keep going and face it one day at a time. It'd be much easier if she was closer but she's safer and getting the best care possible where she is. Makes me feel a little guilty wanting to get her moved closer, but if she IS closer and not getting adequate care, I'll be at the DON complaining about it

It's just hard to add another 100+miles of driving per day to my life, plus all the other things I'm having to do in the background. Now I have the added responsibility to find someone to take her two dogs in and find them a home. She really wants them to go together, but that's not real possible, especially in a small community like we live in...and because they're older dogs, they may be in a shelter waiting for homes for a long time anyway

Sending prayers.

Are the dogs the same breed or just mutts?
I was amazed at how cooperative/willing the rescue group was for my mother's dogs. (Pomeranian rescue group) I expected an automatic decline.
So I have it lined up should my mother/grandmother decline and it becomes time to move them.

You might have luck with a specific breed shelter over a general shelter.
It is difficult no matter what.

One is a purebred mini-dachshund and the other is a purebred dachshund...I looked into breed rescues but there aren't any dachshund breed rescues nearby. There are 2 no kill shelters but I'm hoping I can get a sanctuary to take them. They keep their animals in homes until they're adopted or they're allowed to live out their days at the Sanctuary...but they are almost always overfull, so I'm not getting my hopes up

Have you done a google search for daschund rescue groups in Missouri?
I just did and saw several shelters.

I see China saw your instructions to think blue tonight. Paws crossed the green comes later.

It is worth contacting breed rescue from further away. When I was working part time at our local shelter, we had one dog come in whose rescue group is in Saskatchewan (over 20 hours drive), but they had local foster people who took in the dog. There might also be a small dog rescue, we've got a few of those near us, some of them even specializing in older dogs (Seniors for Seniors) - for people who can't make a long term commitment but still want a dog around.

Yes, there's one in Illinois, and one called "St. Louis Dachshund Rescue" which (from spending some time reading about this rescue) seems to be mostly one lady who loves the breed and tries to help, but isn't exactly a real "rescue"

I'm still hoping the Sanctuary can take them...if they find new forever homes, that's great, but if they don't, they'll still be together and live out their lives there...and it's not a shelter...they keep their animals in homes

I'm still waiting to hear from the rescues I've emailed...Hoping one has some good news!

I was happy to see a blue number tonight after all those yellows Wendy, but she went right back to yellow
