Another long night. Attie was tummy sick again around 2:30 am and had been coughing pretty hard just before that. So I'm not sure if it was just a physical reaction to the hard coughing.

Hard coughing is good as it means he is still clearing his airway.

I've been sleeping in the family room with him and last night Gary jumped up on the daybed. I don't know if he realized I was under the covers or not but I could feel him kneading up the covers. He is the only cat I've ever had that 'makes a nest' before bed. Unfortunately I moved and scared him off the bed with his claws still stuck in the covers. I waited a few minutes and then calmly unhooked him. ohmygod_smile

Attie did some eating this morning by hand-feeding, on his own, and about .75 oz through syringe feeding. As the vet said...feed him whatever he will eat at this point.

I do have some rabbit thawing that I will try to hand feed this afternoon.

Re: 11/20 Atlas AMPS 376

So sorry Attie and you had a rough night!! :YMHUG: Sometimes it would take 24 hours for the prednisone shot to really kick in. Nothing has worked quite like it once it did though. Sending healing vines for Attie to have a much more peaceful day. Get some rest Beth!

FYI - If the vet is considering flovent, you want to get it started asap. It takes a couple of weeks to take effect so the time period between the prednisone from the shot and the inhaler kicking in is a good time to build that up.

Yeah!!!!!! Attie ate about half a medallion of his raw rabbit!!! Hand fed, but he ate it!

Re: 11/20 Atlas AMPS 376

Yay Attie! Keep eating!!!

The vomiting may have been a "side effect" of the coughing. Years ago, we had a serious URI running through the herd, and when Mario would have a serious coughing fit, he would almost without fail vomit (virtually projectile...fun stuff.)

I hope Attie keeps feeling better!!

Sending more healing vines and "feel better" wishes for Attie. Glad he is eating some on his own and hope he clears that congestion out.

Well that eating idea didn't last long...

So I went to the pet store to get an oral syringe...all they had was the one in the dog aisle...a great big syringe that no way could I handle it and Attie at the same time.

Nosing through the "kitten" food stuffs hoping to find a syringe and tripped across a product called CatSure for Mature Older Cats. You guessed it...basically Ensure for cats. Draw back is it has dextromaltose in it. I don't know what grade though. It could go in like glucose or it could act more like a slow starch. I did bring a can of it home...just in case.

Attie doesn't seem to be coughing as often. Although when he gets started it is painful to hear and watch. He doesn't appear to be gasping for air, but more like trying to expell air. confused_cat Each cough though now takes on this long 10-15sec. gurgle, groan before the diaphragm pushes the air out. Yuck...

The vet did say if he was vomiting to hold off on the clavamox, so he got a repreave on that for the day.

We'll see how the night goes...

I hope Attie starts to feel better. I'm hoping he keeps eating for you, as well.

Me too Sienne, me too. He is very, very cranky at this point. Growls at me if I get to close...he is not happy with this syringe feeding idea. And I can't blame him too much...he sniffs, licks, and sits there like he is ready to just barf in the bowl. Hand feeding sometimes...

He did show some temporary interest in the Pure Bites Shrimps and ate about a dozen of those tiny things.

I am wondering if some of this horrible coughing is dry heaves from the shot? I have Pepcid AC on hand ...perhaps a quarter tab. wouldn't hurt.

Aw, Attie........

feel better, guy...it's time!

Does he lick or smack his lips or grind his teeth - these are signs of nausea. I hear pred is hard on the stomach also isn't it?

Hoping he gets well soon. Sending more hugs.
