Good Evening, L&LL,

All-day rain here, so we were able to get a few more tests in. Rusty did OK, considering. No short shots today. I hope I can get him to settle into a more Rusty-like cycle. He ate some Hounds & Gatos Chicken & Chicken Liver today. I had tried him on a can about 2 weeks ago and he seemed to like it. But it is clear that he prefers RAWZ. He kept waiting by his dish, looking at the Hounds & Gatos for a while before finally eating some.

Our hike yesterday on woods trails in the Champlain Valley was very nice. There is a much greater variety of trees there, compared with the Adirondacks. One of the party was very knowledgeable about trees and plants, so I learned a lot from her. The promised rain never materialized. We all wore some blaze orange clothing, since this is deer-hunting season and the Champlain Valley trails are popular hunting spots. We saw a hunter's truck, but didn't encounter any hunters (or any deer).

I have a new kitchen machine: an Instant Pot. It is a combination electric pressure cooker, slow cooker, brazer, rice cooker, etc. (7 functions in all). I had been reading the rave reviews and decided I needed something to get into a new mode for winter. Yesterday I made a white bean soup with escarole and it turned out well. This was on the slow cooker function (I started it at 10 p.m. the night before). I am looking forward to trying the pressure cooking because you can turn out complete meals in no time at all. I need to find some good recipes, however. Most of the ones that came with the Instant Pot are too exotic for everyday. The Instant Pot has built-in programs for soups, beans, meats, etc. etc. Apparently it makes great hard-boiled eggs (the membrane doesn't stick to the shell when you try to peel it).

Wishing everyone a fine evening. No more baseball until next spring! (Congrats to the Astros on a great game yesterday).
