11/2 Mo - Feeling poorly today

I hate seeing my boy feeling poorly. We've put him back to 50mg gaba and 0.3ml bupe to help with the pain. He's not growly so far today which is nice but he is a bit slower. Probably because of the meds. He was purring this morning when he was eating his breakfast but he also had his big eyes so maybe that was pain purring? I'm not sure tbh. He's still very keen to eat so that's good. He just doesn't eat everything all at once and is grazing.

I woke up to find another runny poo in his litter box. Hopefully we get something a bit more solid today. Fingers crossed!

I will be testing his BG twice today and see how he reacts. We might have to keep gaba in his system for a little bit to be able to manage the ear pokes. He still growls when he's on gaba, but he doesn't resist.

I'm doing better today because I slept really well! I keep having dreams about his Levemir arriving - I'm so excited to see how he goes on it! But either way PM dose I will be increasing to 5 units.

Have a wonderful day everyone :bighug:

He's gone under the bed in the spare room now. Poor baby really isn't feeling well. Lyla has suggested that maybe the fancy feast could be upsetting his tummy so I think we will try give him ziwipeak from now on and see how he goes on that. It's weird though, I saw him grooming himself, and then he went under the bed. He hasn't gone under the bed for a long time. That does make me worry :(

but he also had his big eyes so maybe that was pain purring?
Big eyes = stoned eyes. Probably from the pain meds.

Might be worth grabbing a test if you can, to see if that explains odd behaviour.

Any idea when you'll be getting the Levemir?

I hope Mo feels better soon, poor boy. :bighug:

He had big eyes before he went on any medications last week. To me it's a sign of pain but at the moment could be a bit of both I guess.

I can't get a test at the moment as he is under the bed but I will when he comes out.

Levemir will come in early next week, Prue said. I would have hoped it would arrive late this week but yeah.

I'm still waiting for a call back from the vet ugh.

He has come out from under the bed and is happily eating the ziwipeak. He's started purring when I was giving him pats so maybe he's feeling better and the ziwipeak sits better in his tummy? We will keep it up. I'm going to give him some more bupe in about half an hour. The dosing instructions say to give 2-3 times per day. It will be 8 hours since his last dose so it's worth a go if he's still in pain. He does seem quite skinny. My poor baby.

I went down to the clinic and spoke to the vet. She's given me more bupe and we will continue with 50mg of gaba morning and night and 0.3ml of bupe every 8 hours at this stage. He's still keen to eat and drink so at this stage we don't need to take him in but they said that if he's still really sore tomorrow, to take him in and they will admit him. She was saying the diarrhoea could be because we've finished the stormogyl antibiotic and sometimes diarrhoea can come back briefly after that. I don't know if I believe it's that tbh. She also said a possibility could be all the different foods he's been having over the last week could be wreaking havoc with his tummy. We will be sticking with Ziwipeak for now for as long as he will eat it.

Mo seems to be more comfy this evening. Made a big fuss at shot time though. He definitely felt the insulin going in. Gosh, I cannot wait for the Levemir to arrive! Haven't seen any poos since this morning. Hopefully that means the next one will be more solid.

stormogyl antibiotic
FWIW george had serious liqui poo when he had this AB before and after his dental, he needed it for really bad gingivitis. His bottom got really sore and he would growl and hide when I tried to test him, something he has never done. He was one unhappy kitty.
It took a while to resolove I used Sboulardii probiotic, but it actually got better when he stopped.

That's interesting! I was meaning to get some of that probiotic for Mo, I'll google it now!

I would probably avoid that particular one because of the guar gum,
this is the one we use
https://www.optibacprobiotics.com/uk/product/saccharomyces-boulardii-16-capsules has nothing added at all.
Jarrow also do one that may be suitable.

https://www.foodfurlife.com/my-cat-has-diarrhea---what-do-i-do.html#/
has info on how you use it.
It may not work if the GI problem is due to Exocrine Pancreatic Insufficiency, but I do not believe that it would harm him. But if he has IBD or its related to food intol, AB it may well help., it's even documented to help with some infections.

The Ibd kitties site has some good info on dosing and probiotics. Note fortiflora, not the best choice, but it is the only animal one, so vet may try to get you on that one.

George has a maintenance dose of this daily since his poop issues. He would regularly get soft really stinky poop episodes, but since he has been on this he rarely has that problem.

good to know Bron, I wasn't sure about the other ingredients. As for the gums I just don't like including them in Georges diet. Though it is probably a miniscule amount in the capsule.
I feed it to both the cats. Harry has no issues but Clover does have some soft poop issues periodically but since I started Sboulardii and slippery elm she’s been good...touch wood.

I hope you and Mo both feel better soon. Hopefully the new insulin arrives fast and it helps Mo greatly!
I gave Grem a dose of Bupe today and he's sleeping with his eyes open, it's weird... He's also not feeling well. Maybe Grem is having sympathy grumbles for Mo.
Sending hugs your way :bighug::bighug::bighug:

I use Jarrows S. boulardi with MOS and it’s great. For emergency stop, give 1/4 of a 5b CFU cap every two hours until the diarrhea stops. I’m a huge believer in probiotics so my cats geta maintenance dose of S. boulardi and Visbiome twice a day even though they get a balanced raw diet and rarely have even soft poo.

Sending vines for Mo.
